Another week has come and gone, and we’re so close to the weekend we can almost touch it. We’re hoping there are oodles of Winter weddings flooding our inbox after this first wedding weekend in February. Of course, we couldn’t bid you farewell before giving you a little preview to get you excited to be back here nice and early Monday. Venue + Bouquet Combos by La Partie Events, II

We are blogging with Megan Fickling of La Partie Events today, who is sharing some of her own inspirations and ideas. She is pure talents so I love that she has taken the time to empart some of her wedding wisdom with us!

If you’re just tuning in, I’m guest blogging today and sharing what a difference it makes when your flowers complement your venue. This venue is the Mountain Gate Country Club in Brentwood, CA. The ceremony was outdoors on the golf course and the reception was indoors in a very beautifully inviting space. The bride Michelle wanted mostly white for her bouquet with a splash of light pink, which matched her dress perfectly. In Michelle’s bouquet, I used white and blush pink dahlias, white garden roses and white freshia with a blush pink raw silk wrap.

For the flowers inside the reception, I used warm and bright pink flowers to complement the more colorful and cozy indoor space.

Centerpiece Ideas by Calluna Events

Hope everyone had a great weekend! Thanks so much for all of the birthday well wishes…we had a great time, just hanging out at home, eating WAY too much chocolate and doing a little too much of nothing. Perfect way to kick off an all new decade.

We have kind of a hodge podge of stuff for you today, which is sometimes the best way to do it. A little something for everyone. First up, some really simple, but gorgeous centerpiece ideas that Calluna Events put together…

There is something so organically beautiful about the simplicity of these flowers. They are gorgeous enough to suit any wedding style and they are easy enough to do yourself! Here are some tips from Heather at Calluna Events…

These centerpieces can be as inexpensive (think carnations) or expensive (think orchids) as you want to make them. The only other cost is your vase which you can usually rent from a florist or purchase from a craft store such as Michaels. Flowers can be purchase in bulk from your local florist ahead of time. Once you get the flowers you just need to “process” them which just means to trim the excess leaves, thorns and bad stems off, cut the flowers stems down to the size that looks best for vase and plop them in. This is typically called “chop & plop” in the floral world.

Wedding Centerpiece by La Partie Events, IX

If I could fly out to LA and give Meg of La Partie Events a hug, I totally would. Although that would probably scare her off. So, instead, I’ll just tell her that we loved what she created for us today on SMP. The originality, the thoughtfulness of each design, the fabulous attention to detail and style…it’s well, inspiring. To say the least. If you are lucky enough to live in the area and are looking for a planner/designer, BOOK La Partie asap. You won’t regret it.

Materials
1 Orange Anthropologie Bird Cage $49.00 on sale
3 White Round IKEA Florera Candles $4.99 each
2 Yards IKEA Gisela Fabric $7.99 / yard
Yellow Acacia Flower $12.50 per bunch
White China Mums $18.75 per bunch
Yellow China Mums $18.75 per bunch

Instructions
Place candles in bird cage. Arrange white and yellow china mums and yellow acacia flowers around the candles as shown in photo, creating a nest of sorts. Add one white mum to the top, either simply tucking into wires or by using an adhesive.

We have been featuring more DIY projects on SMP lately. More ways for you to get in there and take control of your wedding style…and hopefully save a few bucks in the process. I do want to make one quick suggestion though for all of you brides out there who are struggling to put your style stamp on your wedding while sticking to some form of a budget.

Sometimes hiring a planner can be the best money saving tip you could possibly do. A really good wedding planner will help you understand where you can splurge, where you can save…they can help you refine your vision so you don’t waste money on unnecessary details. They can keep you on track so that you can have the wedding of your dreams without stressing about your missing dollars. Many times, they even have relationships with area vendors and can get you better pricing than if you were going at it alone.

Point is, if you are a DIY girl…do it, and do it stylishly. But if you are working on a budget and aren’t so into DIY, think about hiring a planner to help you see your vision to reality. A good planner is a great investment.

3 CB2 Long Neck Vases
1 Set of IKEA White PS Candle Holders $8.99
12 Votive Candles in Clear Holders, Crate and Barrel,
2 Yards IKEA Katrin Fabric $5.99 / yard
White Lilac Flower $15.00 per bunch

Instructions
Place white lilac flowers in vases, using 2-3 stems per vessel. Fill vases all the way to the top so all the stems receive water. Arrange on table with candles in a wave pattern as shown in photo.

Place yellow acacia in tall vase and nestle the succulents into the small white containers. Fill vases all the way to the top so all the stems receive water. Arrange on table with candles as shown in photo.

If you are just now joining us, you are in for SUCH a treat. The fabulously talented Meg, designer behind La Partie Events, has created a full day of inspirations and wedding centerpieces for us. Using goods that she found at IKEA (I swear, it’s not IKEA ad, they just happen to have THE best vases at a reasonable price) and flowers she discovered at the LA flower mart, she designed a series of centerpiece ideas that can just as easily be mixed and matched as they can stand alone!

She paired the first centerpiece idea that we showed with the chic, yellow table runner to create kind of a preppy elegance. Love it.

Materials
1 White IKEA Blomster Vase, medium round $9.99

Instructions and Notes…
Place pink anemone flowers in vase, making sure to fill it as much as possible. Fill vase all the way to the top so all the stems receive water. Arrange on table with candles on each side as shown in photo. I love that the two candles we used are similar and yet just a touch different. It adds interest and intrigue to the style.

This one is a bit more traditional than the last, using flowers that are both feminine and utterly chic at the same time. Paired next to the somewhat casual yellow runner, the result is that perfect combination of timeless and modern. Love.

Place 2-3 yellow water lilies in one of the petite vases. Group white hydrangeas together, placing in your larger vase, then fill in with the sprigs of yellow acacia Of course, fill vases all the way to the top so all the stems receive water. and arrange on table on each side of the candles as shown in photo.

I am LOVING every little bit of today’s feature. To see similar flowers and similar vessels be used in SO many different ways in incredibly inspiring. Even if you are like me, and aren’t brave enough to craft your own centerpieces, today’s designs are perfect inspiration for you to bring your florist or event planner. Love that.

YUM. love the manzanita branch with the simple round candles against that incredibly, yellow runner. It’s modern and yet it’s kind of rustic chic too. Fabulous.

1 Sand Blasted Manzanita Branch $43.00

Instructions and Notes from Meg…

Arrange the runner on the table making sure that it is draped in the center. Place the manzanita branch on the table, then sprinkle in the round Florera candles. Pair with really simple, white china to complete the effect.
