We often ask our brides if they are glad that they had a “first look” session.
Here’s what Terese had to say …

Because we planned from the beginning to have a late evening wedding, there was really no other option than to see each other and take photos before the ceremony. Our photographers set it up so that I was standing at the end of a long, tree-lined path and Ed walked up from behind. I was nervous and giddy until the moment I felt him kiss me on the shoulder and put his hand on my arm. Looking back, I can’t imagine not having this time alone with Ed to relax and smooch a little before the real craziness of the day began.

Afterward, we spent some time taking photos along Lake Michigan. Our hotel was also along the lakeshore and at one point we looked up at the top of the hotel and saw our moms and the bridesmaids looking down at us and waving. I couldn’t have planned the moment more perfectly if I had tried!

Our ceremony location was any easy decision. Once we decided that we’d get married in a church, I knew it would be Holy Name Cathedral. Not only is it a stunning cathedral in the heart of the city, but it’s also in the neighborhood where Ed and I live, so it’s the church we attend together.

After the ceremony, we were standing in the back of the church as our guests filed out. I hadn’t seen my grandpa yet and suddenly he appeared and wrapped me in the biggest hug. Through tears, he couldn’t stop telling me how happy he was for Ed and me. Dave and Nancy discreetly captured this moment and I am so grateful to have these photos.

Daria and Andy Bishop have been so good to us by sending lots of real Style Me Pretty “style” weddings. You’re going to be seeing lots more from them here on the LBB blog!! But, we’d be remiss if we didn’t start off with their photos from Amanda & Jeff’s wedding. Amanda and Jeff Herzberger of Orchard Cove Photography had their own gorgeous wedding this past July at Shelburne Farms, Vermont.  And when one great photographer weds, who does she ask to capture her special day? Why, another Little Black Book member, of course. Enter, Daria Bishop Photography!

First looks … to see each other on this momentous day, before that walk down the aisle …

Now, you know that one of the questions you too will face when planning your wedding photography is whether you do (or don’t) want to have that first look alone. Seeing each other before the wedding is a hot topic. Some couples are vehemently opposed to it while others have now started thinking, hmmmm, well, maybe…?

Before you decide, talk to your photographer and really listen to the pros and cons. Talk to other couples who have taken the high road and decided to experience this moment privately. I seriously doubt that you will find many, if any, who wish they hadn’t.

And now, more from Amanda and Jeff’s wedding …

I love the shades of blue they used … such a natural pop of color. And the Vermont countryside … wow!

Talk about a pop of color. How much better does it get than beside a red barn?

It just looks like a wonderful location, time of year … lovely people … everything a wedding should be!
