This wedding was a three-day celebration! The groom is from Turkey and his family and friends who traveled so far were treated to a warm welcome and an ‘insider’s peek’ of Napa Valley. The bride’s family owns a picturesque estate in St Helena where the weekend’s festivities took place. Famed architect Howard Backen designed the home to exude warmth, comfort and elegance. It was just the perfect spot for their daughter’s wedding.

This particular event was the 2nd day of celebrations. The guests were greeted and escorted through the darling gate into the entrance courtyard. We set up the courtyard with comfy corners and points of interest….couches and throws, pillows and custom furniture……and, of course food stations! The talented boutique Panevino Catering team created a custom sandwich station with cured meats and homemade breads and spreads, as well as an heirloom tomato gazpacho station (with green, orange and red gazpacho…)

The food and setting were hard to break away from; but the guests were soon ushered through the stunning home to the back garden for dinner, and later dancing to the fabulous Napata and the Kisses. The vineyards were in late summer fullness and a perfect set to the peaked tent and dining. The softer tones of the courtyard cocktail hour gave way to bright splashes of color and bold arrangements under the tent for dining, it was a real ‘oooohhhhh’ moment when the guests walked through the house and saw the vibrant tent before them! Just next to the dining, for those who wanted to sneak away or a drink and a quieter conversation, was a full bar and lounge, set around the lit pool.

We worked hard to incorporate the bride’s vision and the couple’s personality in every detail, from her love of vibrant colors and relaxed atmospheres, to the groom’s family heritage and recipes. It was an honor to work with both of them and their families; they were gracious and generous to their guests and vendors alike! Truly a family filled with love.

Jonathan and I met while working for the same company in San Diego, and we ended up co-managing the largest running store in the US together. Jonathan proposed on Valentine’s Day (it is my least favorite holiday, so I was not expecting it!)  We went for on the beach in San Diego and after we finished Jon got down on one knee and pulled the ring out of his running shorts! When we started to think about the big day we both knew that we wanted it to reflect our laidback, fun-loving personalities, and our passion for running which brought us together.  After a recent trip to Napa we decided that Napa embodied casual elegance we were searching for and we absolutely fell in love with a winery that has been in my family for many years, Silver Oak.  Jon is from Rochester, NY and I am from Oklahoma City, OK and with friends and family from all over the country we thought a destination wedding made sense.

The next step would be hiring a wedding planner and after interviewing a few, Rebecca Feeney of Custom Event Group stole the show with her fantastic ideas and impeccable ability to translate the style that we were seeking. She brought the entire day together, and was the inspiration behind each beautiful element.  I would highly recommend her to any bride for her ability to translate my vision and her wonderful ideas!

The flowers were done by Kathy Hoffman.  I could tell after talking to her just a few times and sending some pictures that she really understood my vision.  In fact, the flowers were more beautiful than I could have ever imagined and the simple vases and natural table clothes allowed the flowers to make a statement in a very natural way.  It was simply breathtaking!

At the reception 2 vintages of Silver Oak cabernet were served, a Pinot Noir and a Sauvingon Blanc from Silver Oak’s sister winery Twomey.  We had 3 food stations.  Two of the stations were done by Sage catering, and we used Silver Oak’s pizza oven as one station.  Pizza is a big part of Jon’s Italian heritage, and also Jon’s favorite food!  We also featured Grampy’s Sundae Bar by Three Twins ice cream as a tribute to my late grandfather, Grampy, who would eat an ice cream sundae with almost every meal!

This was a lovely Fall wedding at the spa-like Solage, Calistoga. We were all thrilled with a weekend of glorious sunsets and blue skies. October is just magical around here, the smell of harvested grapes is in the air and there’s such an amazing glow about the golden sun. This was one of the most beautiful Jewish ceremonies I’ve ever seen, the Rabbi sung all of it and her rich, melodic voice captivated everyone. We were all riveted on the absolutely stunning bride and the beaming debonair groom, Nathan. After being pronounced ‘husband and wife’ they broke into a jubilant dance down the aisle. The cocktail reception was full of token and well thought out details, from hand selected and cut origami paper for ‘wishes’ to a top vintage of Silver Oak as a guest bottle. The hues of dusty duck egg blue, sesame, caramel and warm taupe were beautiful and calming and seemed to work so well at the welcoming and minimalist Solage.

The Solage ‘ball room’ which is much more like ‘pottery barn, open beam ceiling, cool cement stained floor, barn, meets ballroom’ was transformed. 18’ tall sheer backlit chocolate drapes on the sides of the huge room created a cozy and warm atmosphere; and a variety of linens created a furnished feeling of quality. The 24’ long head table was a sparkling vision, we used heirloom candelabras, candlesticks and floral containers from the brides family. On the chair of each woman in the room was a neatly draped soft pashmina gift. Pop Fiction, wow, great band, rocked the house after dinner, late into the night.

And what better way to cap off a perfect day? A surprise concert of the bride and groom’s favorite reggae group, ‘Toots and the Maytals’. Late that night, we had to pinch ourselves, the fun-filled, cozy barn, vibrating with Toot’s tunes and all the beauty surrounding seemed a bit unreal…..

Each dining table was unique in it’s Fall creations of floral and seasonal produce,what a fun combination of topiaries, anjou pears and autumnal mums! Following dinner, the party moved a few steps away to the harvest barn. The barn was set with a yummy homemade ice cream, brownies and berry pie dessert buffet. We used all the fun nooks and crannies of the barn to set lanterns, fun floral surprises and cozy furniture.

The unbelievable flowers were designed by Kathy Hoffman. So much more to come in just a bit!

What a fun challenge it was to not only meet their great expectations, but to surpass them!  The ‘Altar’ was created by combining various shepherd hooks full of fall wildflowers, dahlias and mums.  The aisle was a blanket of an artistic blend of colorful wildflower petals, leaves and some whole flowers.  The cocktail hour was complete with estate made wines, games of horseshoes and a local bluegrass ensemble.

Dinner was set just outside the historic apple harvesting barn.  The owners generously allowed us to scour the expansive property for fun props, which you can see from the photos, were used everywhere….from apple boxes, to galvanized bins, to an old grape press and antique family farm tables and benches – it doesn’t get any more ‘authentic’ than this.

More from Rebecca…Our vintner friend allowed Teri and Scott to use their home and winery courtyard for the
ceremony and dinner. We used all these amazing arrangements of grasses and awesome Chinese wooden boxes and containers for the tiny ceremony….there was no need to over decorate what Mother Nature had so gracefully pulled together! But, we wanted everything to be top-notch quality and authentic.

After a sweet ceremony, and a cocktail reception with Napa Valley wines and an easy croquet game, the guests walked down the lane to dinner in the romantically lit courtyard. What a vision the glowing 24’ long table was…complete with personalized menus for each person, various detailed votive holders and hand blown hurricanes, soft honey-colored candles and rich candelabras with garden roses, amaranth and multiple custom floral arrangements running between it all. It was an abundant and warm look with the slanting sun-light, deep marigold linens and warm sunset and golden peach floral tones.

It really was an elegant dinner party, no dancing, just a cozy lounge and lots of sweets to end the evening. …A bit different, and meaningful and memorable, and exactly what Teri and Scott had dreamed of for their first day as husband and wife.
