My vision for our wedding day was fun and travel. Tommy and I have been to over nine countries and one US road trip together. We love adventure, exploring, culture, food, music and the kindness of strangers all over the globe. I wanted the idea of us concurring and exploring this world together to come across at our wedding. Traveling is something that excites us, intrigues us, scares us and brings us closer together.

One of the main flowers that I wanted to incorporate throughout the day was sunflowers. I have loved sunflowers for as long as I could remember. They are so bright and cheerful and always make me smile. They fascinate me too because they are always reaching for the sun. If you put them in a window the sunflowers will actually turn and face the sun. I have always tried to be a positive, bright and a happy person much like a sunflower!

The venue was a no brainer the moment when I walked through the gates of that magical, secret garden. I only saw the venue one time in the dead of winter. No flowers, puddles of mud, repairs needed but I just knew it was the place where we were supposed to get married. It had a vintage feel to it, and it also made us feel like we had traveled somewhere else! It was the perfect venue for the most perfect day ever!

Instead of a traditional wedding cake, we decided to have donuts! Donuts and dancing were there to show off our fun side. Cake is good but who doesn’t LOVE donuts? I wanted our guests to feel our playful, different and adventurous side – and dance! For years Tommy and I have loved to dance not only with each other but just in general. Our DJ really made that party happen with all the lighting and high energy music. All in all, our wedding was a fabulous representation of our love! Romantic, bright, playful, joyful, exciting and full of love. It was hands down the BEST DAY OF MY LIFE!

From of Chris and Heather of Graceology Photography… This wedding submission is pretty much summed up from their YouTube proposal video that went viral. Matt and Ginny literally exploded overnight when the video was sent to YouTube. With over 20 million views, appearances on Ellen, FOX, and many other networks, this was the wedding to be at in Atlanta last fall. Every detail was designed by Matt and Ginny. Ginny customized her shoes, Matt customized his Converse, and every minute of the wedding was simply perfect. It was the perfect fall southern wedding with the ceremony by candlelight and their handwritten vows. Everyone in attendance felt their love and emotion instantly.

From Mandy of Mandy and Me Studio… Erica + Mike + 200 vases = one heck of a wedding that not even the rain could stop from being awesome. As it is with every wedding, we always like to monitor the weather so we are prepared. We knew there was a high chance of rain during this wedding but we were determined to make it work. We were pleasantly surprised to find out Erica and Mike were just as determined to make it work as we were. So the dress got a little dirty? So what? A couple drops of rain on the awesome suit? Nothing dry cleaning can’t fix, and all worth it to get some awesome pictures. It was a heart warming experience for us, and we are just glad things fell in place to make their special day a memorable one.

There were 200 different vintage vases at this wedding that the bride and groom had been hunting down prior to their wedding. They had the cutest little cake topper. Erica is a gifted artist and made many of her wedding details herself.

From Kelly Dillon Photography…Details, details, details. That was the name of the game and they were captured perfectly by the supremely talented Kelly Dillon and (thankfully) noticed & appreciated by our friends & family. Bill proposed exactly 1 year prior to our wedding day and I had a definite vision: to get married in New England…in a tent…in the Fall, and I knew I wanted what I came to coin as an “upscale rustic chic” theme. Elm Bank was the PERFECT backdrop to our perfect day, sandwiched in between a weekend of torrential downpours and an early-season snowstorm!

We were fortunate to know many of our fabulous vendors beforehand (and boy did we have a lot of them!) and I wanted to be as hands-on as possible, so I took on the role of both bride & planner. We started with the concept and stayed pretty true to it throughout the process, but it definitely evolved in terms of colors and certain elements. Style Me Pretty was like my bible and I should note that I still continue to stalk this site every day!

Of utmost importance was a day that was personal, filled with joy & love, and that it was very unique and very “us”. I appreciate certain traditions but I was always thinking: how can we make them our own? It truly did come down to the details and many were DIY-chosen projects that I wanted to take on myself. This was a time my creativity had no boundaries and I loved it! The end result was a representation of me & Bill as a couple and as individuals.

With the help from our floral genius, Orly from Tangerine Creations, we were able to bring typical Fall colors into the bouquets & boutonnieres, as well as the cocktail/lounge area. We wanted a WOW factor though so behind the separating sheer pipe & drape was a reception area in contrast to those colors…soft taupes, ivories, deep purples and LOTS of branches and candles. The lighting provided a soft glow everywhere, and a branch go-bo projected beautifully on the drapes. The final product was utterly romantic & rustic but also fresh and totally “New England”.

I found some birch tree curtains at Ikea of all places and knew immediately I wanted to use them on some of the tables as runners. I also knew that I wanted tables in different shapes with different linens & centerpieces. Bill and I both wanted a fun head table and we ended up creating the most gorgeous long table from 3 whitewash farm tables (thank you New England Country Rentals!) that stood out from the other square & circle tables.

The day was whimsical, romantic and lively, and made so memorable by any # of things…the modern take on the Jewish 7 Blessings, the most gorgeous chuppah I’ve ever seen, the guys wearing Chuck Taylors, the girls wearing different dresses with custom shoe clips (Etsy was my go-to for everything!), my something “blue” in the form of Bill’s blue baby bracelet woven into my bouquet…and some unexpected details such as serving pumpkin beer in mason jars with cinnamon sugar rims, assigning tree names to each table, enclosing a “what’s happening card” I designed in the napkins instead of a menu card, or the most unbelievably tasty and beautiful dessert spread instead of a traditional cake (why stop at one flavor when you can have 4? And apple cider donuts! And candy! Okay you get the point).

I could go on and on but what it came down to was an unforgettable day far more beautiful & more fun than we could’ve imagined (the dance floor was packed thanks to a fabulous band & DJ…we even saw guests munching on salmon & noodles out of takeout boxes while standing in line for the photobooth!) I had so much fun that I even forgot to change into my blue sparkly Converse for dancing! All in all, it was a perfect blending of our families & friends and I desperately miss planning it already! Most importantly, guests can say it was totally “emily and bill.”

From the Bride… They say that when you meet “the one,” you just know. I think that was the case with Kevin and I when we met about nine years ago on a sunny San Diego beach. Our mutual friend was stationed in the Navy with Kevin and after he introduced us, we hit it off right away. You might even go as far as to say that we had met our soul-mate. We were still pretty young though and not quite ready to leap right into a big commitment, so we continued to date and after many ups and a couple of downs, we found that the time was finally right to get married. When we started planning our wedding, we agreed right away that we wanted a day that was all about us! We are a pretty casual and easy-going couple and wanted our day to reflect that and create an event that wasn’t stuffy or uptight. We wanted a cool outdoor venue, delicious BBQ, lots of dancing and all of our family and friends. When we found Leo Carrillo Ranch, we fell madly in love with it’s old-world charm and knew that it was the place where we would be married. We loved it so much in fact, that we canceled our next appointment that day and booked one of the only dates left for the summer.

Being someone who not only loves, but also studied design and plans events as part of my job, I had a field day planning our wedding! I hand picked and/or crafted every last detail of our day from the decor, to the flowers, to the stationery, right down to Kevin’s tie and both of our accessories! We did a ton in eight short months and spent many hours hand-making invites and programs, table toppers, numbers and BBQ sauce favors. It was a lot of work, but also so much fun and totally worth it in the end. Kevin and I really proved that we are a great team during this process and that we can get through just about anything. We worked really well together finding the most amazing vendors and coming up with unique ideas to make our day even more special.

We incorporated a ton of DIY projects including our wishing tree guestbook. We purchased two cool pieces of Manzanita branch and secured them into a pot with plaster of Paris to create a one-of-a-kind sculpture. Guests then hung wishes written on hand punched paper leaves on the tree branches. It turned out so whimsical and beautiful. I found a few hundred vases and candle holders at flea markets, thrift shops and discount stores which we used as centerpieces and throughout the venue to add little personal touches just about everywhere you looked. We made chalkboard menus for the buffet and bar out of old flea market frames and chalkboard paint. We carried the chalkboard theme into the table numbers with $1.00 frames from Michael’s that we painted and glued together like an easel with photos of us in various cities that we’ve visited together over the years. My mom hand-wrote all the menus and city names the night before the wedding which was really special since we love her writing. My dad handmade all of the way-finding signs and he put personal little touches on each one which made them unique and even more special.

My mom and I also designed and made all of the flower arrangements ourselves and are so happy with how they turned out. We decided to keep all of the flowers white and green and add in touches of color with little blue and teal feather accents. One of my favorite things that we did was hang parasols from the market lighting above the dance floor. They created a sort of faux-ceiling and looked really elegant swaying in the breeze above every one’s heads. It was very easy to do. Kevin drilled little holes in the bottom of each and screwed in brass loops. The loops where then secured to the lighting wire with zip ties which made them easy to hang and take down at the end of the night.

We truly loved every minute and detail of our special day and wouldn’t have changed a thing. We had the time of our lives and our guests all said that ours was one of the best weddings they had ever been to which meant so much! I got to marry my very best friend, wear a beautiful white gown and dance the night away with the most important people in my life. What more could a girl want (other than to do it all over again!)?

From the Bride…First we booked the ceremony location. As it turned out, the little white church, officially St-Andrew’s in the Pass, was now a historical monument maintained by local residents who happily agreed to let us use it for our wedding. Finding a reception venue nearby proved to be slightly more difficult. Unimpressed with the cost and inflexibility of surrounding hotels, restaurants, and other typical reception venues, we started looking into renting a private estate. After getting lots of NOs, booking two venues that fell through, we were left without a reception location just four short months before our Labor Day weekend wedding. Then we found Les Pignons Verts (French for Green Gables), a beautiful ivy-covered B&B located just fifteen minutes away from the church.

I also saved tons of time and money buying things online, including my wedding dress, which was beautiful and fit perfectly (despite my never seeing it in person or trying it on). Plus it was less than I paid for my prom dress ten years ago! I bought all the guys accessories online, as well as the entire bridal party’s shoes and the bridesmaids dresses (which was easier anyway since one bridesmaid was living in South Korea and another was living in Barbados at the time). One thing we didn’t skimp on was the photographer. As a budding photographer myself, it was important to me to find someone I felt confident about. That person was Stephanie from LachancePhoto. From the moment we first met she jumped on board with our vision and did an amazing job of capturing our special day using a fun photo-journalistic approach.

We went with garden party theme with a yellow color palette, inspired by my engagement ring (an antique canary diamond ring), paired with mint green and black accents. Almost everything about our wedding was do-it-yourself or get-friends-and-family-to-do-it, which required a lot of time and effort, but was totally worth it and made everything feel that much more personal. My granny made our wedding cake; the caterer was a talented chef and family friend; my mom sewed all the table runners and pennants; my brother doubled as both our MC and DJ; the maid of honor hand painted wooden signs which Daniel and I put together from recycled shipping palettes; my friend from work did all the girls hair (we tried out different hairdos all summer on our lunch break until we found the perfect style); two friends put together all the bouquets and mason jar centerpieces from the two hundred bulk roses I snatched up from a wholesaler; I did a bunch of graphic design and photo projects; and our bridal party helped set up and clean up everything at the ceremony and reception (including rinsing off all the rental dishes the day after the wedding!).

Our wedding was absolutely perfect. A gorgeous day spent with seventy of our closest family and friends. Our ceremony was short, sweet and unique. One of the groomsmen played the violin for our processional (Fireflies by Owl City) and recessional (Bittersweet Symphony by the Verve). The trio of my aunt, uncle and Daniel’s older brother performed the Beatles ‘In My Life’ (which my aunt had sung at my parents’ wedding thirty years ago). One of the bridesmaid’s read Shel Silverstein’s ‘The Giving Tree’ (we planted a tree beside the church in memory of family and friends that we wished could have been there for our special day). And, our two dogs fittingly served as the official ring bearers.

Following the ceremony everyone headed to the B&B where cocktails and hors d’oeuvres were served on the front lawn overlooking beautiful Lake Memphremagog. Dinner was served in the backyard under a tent. It was important to us that the food be both delicious and sustainable. We served local Brome Lake duck confit accompanied with vegetables grown especially for the wedding from a farmer down the road paired with our favorite wines, followed by Granny’s homemade lemon cake with butter cream frosting and fresh summer strawberries for dessert.

We tried to infuse our reception with as much fun as possible: we had a table with all sorts of vintage items including wedding photos of our parents and grandparents; instead of table numbers, we named all the tables after our pets and made a donation to a local animal shelter in lieu of favors; we made guests who clinked their glasses to get us to kiss serenade us with a Beatles song first; we set up a photo booth in the greenhouse with tons of disguises (which produced hilarious photos, including one of my Grandma dressed as a tiger); we played croquet and the infamous ‘shoe game’; we danced our first dance to a slideshow of side-by-side photos of Daniel and I growing up (which had everyone in stitches); and, we ended the night with a midnight BBQ complete with yummy baby back ribs.

Right off the bat, I knew I wanted to have a super creative, unique, and FUN wedding… and like nothing my guests had seen before, so I decided to design the day from scratch. Being super crafty anyway, I was thrilled to craft our wedding by hand. I was going for glamorous, funky, and really romantic – and I wanted our guests to have a blast!

I was inspired by the colors and textures of Dia De Los Muertos (the day after our wedding) but didn’t want to have skulls all over the place. So our wedding was full of bright colors, feathers, and tons of paper flowers and poms! All of the flowers (made of tissue paper) were handmade by me and my sweet friends. We also glittered lots of different sized pumpkins and set them among centerpieces, and put together a candy buffet that matched our colors. It was on Halloween, after all! I also made our hair fascinators, bridesmaids’ bouquets, flowergirl wand, bouts, and corsages. It was so special to see all the people we care about wearing one of a kind pieces!

My then-fiance and I realized that puzzles are a significant part of our love story, so we incorporated them into lots of our decor. (Years ago, when we were broken up for a few years, I knew Scott was the man I was going to marry… though he definitely didn’t know it yet. For Valentine’s day, I mailed him a handmade heart shaped puzzle that simply said, “Love is patient,” when put together. And how true that turned out to be! We also both love to do puzzles- something we didn’t know about each other.) Our escort cards were puzzle pieces – guests turned over their puzzle piece to see a pattern, and then searched out the other 9 people with the same pattern. Once the pieces were fit together, the puzzle revealed their table number! Secretly, it was also a fun way to break the ice and get everyone chatting with each other. We also included puzzle pieces in lots of other places; you’ll find them peeking out of bouquets, boutonnieres, programs…

We included what we call our “power couple” name – Scigitte (Scott and Brigitte) – in a lot of our wedding elements. We custom-designed Converse shoes for Scott and his groomsmen with Scigitte on them, and we even had our wedding website at Scigitte.com. To this day, our friends still call us that!

The very best part of our wedding day by FAR was our first kiss – when we got back together, we decided not to kiss until our wedding day. It was hard, but it was well worth it. It was the most incredible, special thing, and definitely the crowning jewel of a perfect day. Although I’m sure our guests would say the best part was the photobooth! We also got to have one of our favorite bands, the Pawnshop Kings, come and perform our first dance song called “You and No Other.” Our Same Day Edit was also amazing and had all our guests in tears. There were so many incredibly special things that happened that day, its hard to pick a favorite!

We left the reception through an aisle of sparklers waved by our friends and family. Our getaway car was a gorgeous 1930′s Rolls Royce – a very sweet surprise from Scott!

It was an amazing day – perfectly us from start to finish, and the best way to start a marriage to the man I’m more in love with every day.

From Nine Photography…A simple, rustic ranch affair in the meadow looking on the famous Maroon Belles mountain.  Amy & Shawn were engaged in the same area, so they wanted to make their wedding day in the same spot Shawn proposed.  The details were simple, DIY projects done by Amy & her sister.  Beautiful little details like the photos inside mason jars, 8×10 photos hanging from clothesline string, and hand carved Aspen tree stumps as centerpieces.

From the Bride… Our wedding took place at the T Lazy 7 Ranch in Aspen, Colorado on July 9, 2011.  Our ceremony was in the meadow facing the mountains and the reception was at the lodge below. We wanted the wedding to feel natural and fresh, with details that would mesh well with our amazing venue. Mostly we used natural colors like green and brown, but we had pretty pops of purple in the bridesmaid dresses and flowers. We used a lot of outdoor elements like tossing leaves instead of bird seed, place cards that were held up by pine cones, Aspen tree vases (we carved our initials and little phrases into the sides!), we placed pine tree branches in the napkins, set up the most beautiful campfire for s’mores, our ring bearer carried rings down the aisle tied to a little fishing pole, and we even combined dirt from all of our important places instead of a unity candle or sand. Our ceremony was filled with beautiful acoustic guitar music and a little of Elvis’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love with You” as my processional. Guests were treated to tiny monogramed gift boxes and a photo booth complete with crazy props. The guests scrapbooked one of their photos for us with a message and kept the others- it was a huge hit! After tons and tons of dancing we ended the night with sparklers under the stars. It was the most incredible experience!
