Brock and Bethlene, both being creative artists, wanted something eye catching and classy with a modern flare. Even though the wedding was going to be in Pennsylvania, an Old Hollywood like flare seemed appropriate given that they live in Southern California. The bride and groom knew from the beginning that they wanted a black and white wedding, which really started their brainstorming process to create an elegant theme for their wedding. A damask print was chosen to elegantly marry the black and white theme. This print was used for favors, table runners, program design and many other features to help tie the entire Old Hollywood theme together. They chose an accent color of yellow to add some vibrancy into the ceremony and reception and to emulate their cheerful and positive outlook on life. With the wedding being at the end of summer, yellow hit the spot.

Their inspiration for their wedding was largely driven by things that were important to the couple as our relationship formed in California. The most important element for inspiration was their family of Serta sheep. Since the sheep were part of the proposal; they absolutely had to be part of the wedding. “Sweet Sheepy Dreams” was the theme behind this elegant Old Hollywood-esque wedding. The save-the-dates, ceremony programs, groomsmen’s cufflinks, and later thank you cards, were all designed by Brock and included many sheep influences.

The Old Hollywood elegance was also incorporated into the flowers designed by Marie Huss of Flowers Sculpture by using bold yellow mums, roses, cymbidium orchids, and calla lilies accented with black feathers and sparkling strands of crystal.

Bethlene’s father officiated the ceremony. This meant that in addition to giving away his daughter to Brock, he would also have to marry them. As Bethlene’s father escorted Bethlene down the aisle, Brock and Bethlene could only describe that first sight moment as “breathtaking.” It took so much self-control for both of them to refrain from kissing each other as soon as they were standing together at the end of the aisle.

Another important element was the inclusion of butterflies, as one of Brock and Bethlene’s first dates was at a butterfly exhibit. Again, butterflies were featured in some of Brock’s designs, and Persnickety Ladies suggested butterfly tags to be placed on each guest’s pillow favor. In addition, and most cleverly, Persnickety Ladies found edible butterfly wafers that were attached, using corn syrup, to every guest’s champagne flute. Bethlene wore rhinestone-butterflies on her shoes and carried a butterfly brooch in her bouquet.

After tying the knot, their memories consisted of a lot of chatting with dear friends and family, a magical kiss along the illuminated driveway, dancing the night away and just continuing to fall more in love with each other.

After spending several weekends driving all over LA County looking at potential venues, we finally arrived at a private club in downtown LA and it was love at first sight! The place was elegant and gorgeous!  I do love funky weddings but I’m from Connecticut and am a traditionalist at heart and this place had a traditional East Coast vibe that felt right to me. The place is also a significant historical California landmark.

One of the greatest parts of the wedding ceremony was Patrick’s nephew Tucker who was our ring bearer. His cuteness stole the show.  The day before at the rehearsal, he threw tantrums, kicked his legs, and flopped on the floor until his face turned red and we thought “Well, OK, that’s fine. We won’t have a ring bearer.”   But, on the day of the wedding, he was in good spirits.  He walked very carefully and solemnly down the long aisle and after he handed the ring pillow to his father, the best man, he raised his arms and screamed “I DID IT!”  The guests all laughed and cheered and it was a good ice breaker for conversations during the cocktail hour.

We wanted something a little different and not so predictable so we used a crayon drawing of us done by our good friends’ 7 year old daughter for the cover of the program.  The rest of the day was perfect and all ran smoothly.  Great food, great band and we were so happy and thankful to have all our relatives and great friends (two coming all the way from Europe!) to share this amazing day.  Special thanks to my sister and brother-in-law who sponsored us at this gorgeous venue.

We met back in preschool, but did not know it.  After that, we met in high school, and then went our separate ways for 16 plus years, crossing paths here and there and seeing each other on holidays and mutual friends’ weddings.  A year and a half ago ago, his sister and another mutual friend planted the seeds in our head when I was gearing to move back to California and he was out of a long term relationship. We re-acquainted over Thanksgiving of 2009 and sparks flew!

Matt put the ring on my finger when I was sleeping one Saturday night.  I woke up and he was acting all funny.  I contemplated why, and for some reason looked at my hand and found the ring!

When we envisioned our wedding we wanted fun.  First and foremost. I wanted every person to have fun from start to finish.  I wanted classic, elegant, black tie.  Black tie affairs are so rare and I loved the idea of seeing our friends and family dressed up for a special occasion.  I saw lots of flowers and good lighting, but not too much going on.  Just classic, elegant, beautiful, soft colors.   We had great music. A traditional affair – but not too traditional!

I am through and through a California Girl. However, I chose a college in Texas and it was during grad school that I met my husband, a Texan. Our relationship developed in Texas, but I knew I wanted to have my wedding in California with all of the sunshine, the ocean air, and lifelong friends and family.

For colors I wanted everything to be black (what can I say, it’s the signature color of my wardrobe) but added white, because it is a wedding after all. It was suggested to me to have an accent color by my event planner. I love sunshine and thought yellow was a perfect California color. I insisted on the flowers girls wearing dresses that they could wear again and picked out beautiful black satin bubble-hemmed dresses that I felt were a sophisticated touch at the wedding.

Because of my family situation – my father passed away from lung cancer when I was in college, and my mother was not in a position to pay for a wedding – expenses for the wedding fell to my husband and myself. We worked really hard to find a unique and beautiful location that would not require a ton of decor to feel “finished” and thanks to my good friend and event planner, Kimberly Downey, we were able to do just that. Our friends own the barn we were married outside of and held the reception in.

So much of our wedding was a “family affair” but with my good friends that are like family. Everyone from the photographer, to the venue owners, florist, baker, and planner are close friends that happen to have skills suited for a wedding. My husband and I felt supremely blessed for such connections. One of our favorite personal touches was that instead of a groom’s cake, we had a friend make “oreo cake balls” to compliment the cake that were white and black and suited the look of our wedding as well as our taste buds. Additionally, I wore my sister’s Vera Wang wedding gown and couldn’t have been happier to be married in such a divine garment that was borrowed! I also had my jewelry custom made by my friend and jewelry designer Summer Ellis. My earrings were found vintage pieces that she made into earrings. I gave my bridesmaids each a pair of earrings that Summer and I designed together.

The day could not have been more perfect. The guys started the day with a straight razor shave at the Montecito Barber. We chose to see each other before hand so we could enjoy the entirety of our reception and honor all of our out of town guests by being as present as possible. I was escorted to the aisle by my two guy friends that were like brothers to me growing up. My mother then walked me down the aisle and I carried my father’s bible. It truly was as special as I had hoped. Dinner consisted of gourmet burgers made by “The Ranch” – a long time fav of mine. The bar outside the barn and tall tables for guests to enjoy cocktail hour drinks while the burgers were made to order got friends old and new to mingle and enjoy the evening.

At the end of the evening we exited to special sparklers obtained by Kimberly (her father works in special effects for films and knew some pyro technics guys) and at the end of the tunnel of guests I was overwhelmed to see my father’s VW Van waiting as our get-a-way car. One of my best friends had got the Van up and running again and others had washed, cleaned, and waxed the vehicle. The “Just Married” sign on the back brought everything together in such a special way.

From Sterling Engagements … Nicole and Matt are one of those dynamic couples that have a love for life and really know how to have a great time.  From our initial meeting, I immediately knew Nicole was a bride that knew exactly what she wanted and I was so thrilled to assist her in executing it.

Their wedding took place in Nicole’s parents’ gorgeous home in Coto De Coza, California.  The time leading up to the wedding was definitely unique as her father was remodeling their home up until the final days before her and Matt’s big day.  The entire grounds were transformed into this lush gorgeous oasis, Nicole really wanted to compliment this through her design.

Her and Matt had somewhat modern taste and she wanted something elegant yet fun to match their uber chic style.  It was crucial that their wedding was sexy and had a vibe that was almost intoxifying.  The design aesthetic developed into a Modern Elegance meets Miami Chic using predominantly black and white in their color palette with some green.

Nicole and Matt’s ceremony took place under the gazebo overlooking the pool.  We had several rows of white lounge benches for guests to comfortably enjoy their sweet nuptials under umbrellas.  The aesthetic of the palm trees and the pool in combination with swanky furniture, romantic white florals and draping really created the perfect environment.

Cocktails both pre- and post- ceremony were up at the outdoor bar where we setup an elaborate artesian station featuring a variety of meats, cheeses fruits and nuts.  Their signature cocktail was the 10.10.10 which featured a kiss of vodka, a smooth splash of soda and a zesty sweet wedge of lemon.

Dinner was served on the opposite side of the backyard where we created an intimate grouping of feasting tables in combination with some rounds.  For the feasting tables we used black lamour linens with a black and white damask runner, then for the rounds we coordinated using the black and white damask linen.  Amanda Crawford from AC Floral designed incredible arrangements incorporating lilies which Nicole had a love for.  She also used an assortment of green spider mums, dendrobium orchids and green limbo roses.  The look was very modern, clean and symmetrical yet stunning.

Nicole and Matt are such a fun couple and their wedding was such a celebration, which is why it was no surprise how hot the dance floor was immediately following dinner.  Guests returned back to the pool area which was transitioned into a stylish lounge to really get the party started.  DJ Nahchey spun hits and really set the tone for the remainder of the evening.  After the cake was cut guests enjoyed bite-size treats by Fantasy Frostings.  Between cake pops, half dipped cookies and mini tarts the night could not have gotten any sweeter!

Kate + Luke from CinemaCake Filmmakers

From CinemaCake Filmmakers … Kate and Luke had a beautiful day that combined spirituality, history, spontaneity, and of course their love for one another.

The couple started their day with some alone time to take photos in Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens, a great choice for their first look. This set the pace for the rest of the evening, as the two were clearly in love; apart, they were great, but together they were truly magical.

Old St. Joe’s held the official ceremony, and Luke had another moment of sheer excitement, seeing Kate come down the aisle. As dad handed her off, Luke assured him that he would take care of Kate. After tearful-yet-joyous vows, Kate and Luke were made husband and wife. Cheers and congratulations around.

The whole bridal party hopped onto a trolley alongside the bride and groom for photos around the city, which was a mini-celebration in itself; there were great photo spots on the trolly, at the Philadelphia Commerce Exchange, and at the reception venue, the Union League of Philadelphia.

Not wanting the whole day to be about just them, Kate and Luke surprised their guests by having the Mummers make a special guest appearance, which was both a delight and a surprise. Their guests were also treated to Mint Juleps, as their wedding day fell on the Kentucky Derby; guests were able to huddle around a few TVs during cocktail hour to cheer on their chosen horses. To tie in their bond and their history, there was also a very commanding Boston College ice sculpture to remind everyone of Kate and Luke’s special bond, having both attended.

The night was capped by wonderful speeches and much, much dancing. This was a group who knew how to have a good time, and they certainly weren’t shy about it. Cheers to Kate and Luke, a wonderful, loving couple.

Ken and  I met through a coworker of mine who was dating a coworker of his (they are now happily married). My coworker had been trying to set us up for a year but we were both dating other people. We both ended our relationships in May and we met on a blind date on July 7th. As soon as I saw him walk across the set of windows at the restaurant, I knew this could be something good!

After nearly four months of dating, Ken proposed to me at my parents’ mountain home in Cashiers, NC. Ken is a Georgia Bulldog and I’m a Florida Gator so naturally we were engaged on the Florida vs. Georgia game day! Ken had a bag of game day goodies and stopped me at a bench by the pond on the way to breakfast at the house.  He said we was worried some of his game swag might be over the top, especially in front of my parents, and wanted me to take a peek at the silly items he had bought. The first thing was a fortune cookie that I opened and said “Go Dawgs!” He apologized, saying he gave me the wrong one. As I opened the next fortune cookie, he got down on his knee – I thought it was to keep rummaging through the bag…but then the fortune read “I love you Jadideah. Will you Marry Me?”

I had been to multiple charity cocktail events at Mason Murer Art Gallery and they were able to completely redesign the gallery to cater to each event. Every party was amazing and so much fun. I loved the spaces and how uniquely the art complemented the social atmosphere. Ken and I went to a charity event that had multiple food tastings from popular Atlanta restaurants. I remember sitting with him at a small table and thinking how great would it be to have a wedding reception here!  I asked him what he thought of this place and he loved it.

The inspiration for the wedding was from a line I had written somebody about what I was looking for in a man – “I want a champagne-drinking, caviar-eating man with style, class and taste, who can also drink beer out of a can wearing shorts and flip flops while watching football at a barbeque.” So my theme was a black tie event with champagne and fine wines, tenderloin and an antipasti table combined with chili dogs, chili burgers, fries and onion rings from Atlanta’s famous Drive-In, The Varsity and Burritos from Moe’s.  A surprise visit around 10:30pm with hot doughnuts from Krispy Kreme, milk shakes and sliders.

The colors were all about me. I don’t like much color so white, cream and beige were pretty much it. Perfect in a white art gallery! The color was in the artwork. It was fabulous!

My most vivid memory was of course the actual ceremony and being so excited to be married to this man. But the next one was Ken on stage playing guitar and singing with the band. So amazing!

Mike and I were set up on a blind date by two of our long time college friends.  We had all attended Louisiana State University together, but Mike and I had never laid eyes on each other.  Neither one of us expected much of the set up as he lived in Chicago and played major league baseball and I had a career and family back in Louisiana, but after the first date, we never looked back.

According to Mike, he started planning the proposal in February of 2009 after only knowing each other six months, but it wasn’t until October that it actually played out.  Unfortunately all of his planned romantic ideas fell through and we ended up on the couch one night after his home cooked meal, catching up on our favorite TV shows that we missed during baseball season on the DVR.  He couldn’t wait any longer and he popped the question… and of course my answer was yes.

The wedding plans started right away as we had a lot to figure out with location and a date.  I was set on a destination wedding and Destin sounded great since I consider it my second home.  He only needed a date to work around the baseball season that allows him free time for 3 short months out of a year.  After meeting with a few locations in the San Destin area, we decided on Carillon Beach.  Not only was the location perfect, but our coordinator, Victoria Valpone, sat with us and planned our dream day out detail by detail over coffee in the very lawn we would have the reception.

We even had a few unexpected changes throughout the engagement when my husband was traded from the Chicago Cubs to San Francisco and the Giants took their season to the very end winning the World Series!  We originally thought we would get back to Louisiana in October to finalize all the last minute details; we instead did not get home until November 7, just a few short weeks before the wedding.  Fortunately Victoria, and her very helpful assistant, Avis, worked their magic and helped tie up all lose ends while we communicated via telephone from the opposite end of the country.  And who would complain about a World Series Championship!

Once the date and location were set, it was time to pick vendors.  I have to be honest and say we let Carillon Weddings direct us on all of these, but we were more than pleased with every last detail.  Our photographers were amazing.  Paul and Mecheal Johnson took some of the most beautiful bridal shots of me a few weeks before the wedding.  Their choice of scenery and the way they caught the slightest smirks and expressions truly amazed us.  And the wedding was no short of that.  Our only problem was how we were going to choose which pictures to include in our wedding album!!  Every picture they took was incredible.

We had one main request for the reception, and that was a great band that would have everyone up and dancing… and we got exactly that.  We selected Meet the Press from the Gulf Coast and worked with Robert Collier on song selections.  They learned Ray Lamontagne’s “You are the Best Thing” as our first dance and played many of our other favorites from all decades.  When I tell you they had everyone on their feet, I am not exaggerating.  My grandmother even shocked us all when she spent her night on the dance floor and even got up on stage.  We wanted a reception where the music was appealing to all ages and brought everyone together, and “Meet the Press” did an amazing job accomplishing this!

One of the last touches we added was a cinematography and it was the best decision made!  We had thought all along that our pictures would capture all the details we needed.  But as we realized how quickly the engagement process was flying by and we could barely remember details from the showers and parties, we opted to book a videographer to capture the day of the wedding for us.  I emailed and talked with Joanna Banks-Morgan of Diva Productions for a few weeks up to the wedding about certain things that would take place that weekend and how much coverage we wanted.  They participated in the rehearsal to see how everything would play out and then showed up Saturday morning ready to go.  A few short weeks after the ceremony they had a trailer put together that showed some of the best clips from the wedding like we were the stars to a new movie about to be released.  Once we got the video, we sat back and relived every last detail.  We were able to see what each other was doing minutes before the “I Do’s” and it showed us scenes we never even knew took place because we couldn’t be everywhere.  We have all ready watched it about a dozen times and can’t wait to show our children one day!

As an Italian family, we have a few traditions that we have started and each wedding they get bigger and better.  For my family, “That’s Amore” started as a favorite song of one of my great uncles.  On a family vacation in Destin, it was a joke that all the cousins sang it one night and now it has stuck.  At each of our weddings, the cousins all get to the front of the stage, sit the bride on the groom’s lap, and sing along to “That’s Amore,” showing the love and closeness that we all share!  In my opinion, there is not better song about love and was a perfect part of our reception!
