From the bride… Brandon and I met about five years ago when we were both working at Ledson Winery and Vineyards in the Sonoma Valley. We immediately hit it off, having many things in common including our adventurous sides: my love of competitive horseback riding and Brandon’s love of back trail snowboarding. After four years, Brandon proposed to me on a flight to Philadelphia with my sister and mom as witnesses.

Once home, I immediately started planning our large wedding! We assumed our wedding site would be in Sonoma — after all, that is where we met. After setting a date and finding a location and a wedding planner, we thought we were all set. Well, unfortunately Brandon’s adventurous side got the best of him in Tahoe on New Year’s Eve. While snowboarding, he went off a jump and landed incorrectly, rupturing all three ligaments in each one of his knees. We were told Brandon might not be able to walk down the aisle in June. I called our wedding planner to tell her that we would most likely need to cancel our wedding. Kate helped us rethink our wedding options. Instead of a big wedding in Sonoma, we decided on an intimate wedding in San Francisco where Brandon could be wheeled down the aisle, if necessary. Kate not only found Brandon a terrific surgeon, but she was instrumental in applying my vision for our wedding to a new venue in San Francisco. We could not have done it without her.

We kept all of the little personal and handmade details, colors, flowers, and the overall feeling we wanted to have on our big day, but we scaled everything down considerably. Brandon and I got married in the Swedenborgian Church in San Francisco, the same place my parents were married over 25 years ago. Our transportation paid homage to my father, who collects vintage cars.  Our reception was at Waterbar, which is right on the San Francisco Bay! I loved having an intimate wedding with my closest friends and family. I could not have asked for a better day! Who knew that a snowboarding accident would lead us to a perfect wedding in the city?

From the Bride… Being a wedding planner myself (I own Sweet Pea Studio in Chicago), it was really important to me to make sure my wedding was a reflection of me and my groom. From personal touches in the details to nods to our family and heritage, we really wanted to wedding to scream “Ian & Kristin.” To start, we had the exact same wedding venues as Ian’s grandparents did 60 years prior — same church, same reception. And I was really proud to be wearing “The Veil.” It was first purchased in 1920 in Belgium and given to Ian’s great grandmother by her husband-to-be. The veil, made of “Bruges lace,” was dipped in tea to get the ecru color. Since then, Ian’s grandmother, mother, sister, aunts and cousins have worn it on their wedding day. I was the 12th woman to proudly wear it down the aisle, and at each wedding, a “veil photo” is taken where everyone there who has worn it stands behind the bride, holding the veil. We had our rehearsal dinner at an Italian restaurant (my family is Italian), a bagpiper to pipe us out of the church (Ian is Scottish), and we had the Chicago Cubs Dixieland Band play during cocktail hour (my late great uncle was Phil Cavarretta, a famous Chicago Cubs baseball player back in the 1940s). Our wedding reception was held in the ballroom at the Woman’s Athletic Club on Michigan Ave, where Ian’s mother is a member. The building has landmark status in the city and has a gorgeous, 1920s feel to it.

When it came to bringing our personal style to life in a ballroom setting, it was a challenge to include what Ian likes too. I’m into ballet, pink, ruffles and flowers, and growing up I always just wanted my wedding to be like Shelby’s in “Steel Magnolias” (i.e., blush and bashful). Ian is into fishing, nature and animals … which really has nothing to do with pink. I wanted to somehow combine our styles into one cohesive look and feel so it wasn’t just about me. So, we mixed lots of outdoor textures with soft pink florals. The floral plan included pheasant feathers in one of the centerpiece designs, and all the boutonnieres were pheasant feathers and monkey tail ferns. Our tables were named after African animals (we honeymooned in South Africa), and the names were slid into mini tree stump holders from Etsy. Ian and his groomsmen wore camouflage socks, and he even changed into a camouflage bow tie after dinner, which was so Ian. My dress made me feel like the ballerina I used to be, especially with the pink tulle crinoline I wore underneath. We absolutely love gummy bears, so we put our own spin on the candy bar idea with a gummy bar. And for a nod to Chicago, the city we love and adore, we had Frango mints in our hotel welcome bags and served our favorite deep dish pizza (Lou Malnati’s, of course) as a late night snack.

One of my favorite elements was our DIY save-the-dates. I found these rustic, wooden pencils which just seemed so perfectly us (I’m also a writer). My sister spent hours putting them together with me, and while it was a lot of work, I was so happy with the result. The save-the-dates really inspired me and set the tone for the rest of the wedding! We have so many favorite memories of the day, but one of our favorites was just after the ceremony when we had our “royal” moment. The church has this little balcony that overlooks the courtyard, so rather than coming out the front of the church like most couples do, we came out on a balcony, kissed and waved, just like Will & Kate! Overall, our day was everything we wanted: it was all about us. We had the most amazing vendors and could not have pulled off this day without them!

Oooh, and the romance is ever more present in this highlight film from Orange Films…

I grew up in New Jersey and always wanted to get married in my home state. We instantly fell in love with the Pleasantdale Chateau the moment we walked in. It has an intimate home-style ambiance, yet grandeur at the same time. We envisioned our wedding to be elegant and timeless, with classic tones of ivory and gold. We wanted our guests to enjoy a royal evening with gourmet food, flowing drinks and good music to dance all night.

All brides pray for good weather on their wedding day. A hurricane blowing through the Northeast never even crossed my mind throughout the planning process. When we chose August, the biggest weather concern was the groom melting in his tuxedo during the ceremony outside. Hurricane or not, the party still went on! My friends and family reassured me that the most important thing was that I was marrying the love of my life and a little rain (and maybe some wind) was not going to get in the way. I knew it was going be a perfect day the second I saw Edmond’s face during our private first meeting and all my worries disappeared. As long as we had each other, this wedding was going to be better than we imagined. We sealed this sentiment with a high-five and said “let’s do this!”

My wonderful bridesmaids entertained with cute arts & crafts while we were getting ready to keep me laughing about the circumstance. They were my lifesaver in keeping spirits light and focused on the prize of marriage. All my vendors ROCKED and made us feel like nothing was going on outside. Everyone was determined to make this the wedding of our dreams and I am truly thankful to have had such an amazing team. Edward Zilberman captured the day in the best trailer that makes me smile everytime I watch it. We were lucky to have Susan Stripling there to work her magic and capture beautiful images all indoors. And Stacey Kallenberg, my wedding planner extraordinaire pulled it all together while preventing me from panicking.

Edmond often joked the groom is only a prop at weddings. So, it was important to let his personality shine through the details as well. Boston sports is what he loves the most (second to me, of course). Our signature drink was called “The Champions” with flags of the city’s sports teams. His birthday was four days before our wedding, so I surprised him with a three-tier cake: Patriots Helmut, Red Sox Cap, Celtics basketball. The band played ‘Sweet Caroline’ as the cake was rolled into the ballroom. His reaction was priceless and one I will remember for the rest of my life. It was amusing to incorporate these details among the biggest NY sports fans on their home turf. And it’s even funnier that a girl who knows nothing about sports planned these details.

Irene was a wedding crasher who was not welcome, but she also showed us how blessed we are to have so many people who love us. We are so thankful for the people who braved the weather to share in our special day and celebrate with us. You just roll with the punches when things don’t go as planned and enjoy every minute. We had a blast and everything turned out beautifully. All our guests are still saying it was an unforgettable wedding in more ways than one. We definitely have a funny story to tell our kids one day.

From the Bride… What is it that makes a wedding truly epic? By end of our magical day, I can comfortably answer that question: focusing your energy on making your friends and family a part of what makes your love and lives together unique. For Greg and I that meant we needed to envelop our guests in crazy delicious food, potent, lip-smacking drinks, music that rips you out of your seat, and personal touches that evoke the true friendship and love we have for each other. Together we have traveled far and wide for amazing, farm-to-table cuisine, so for our wedding, Blue Mountain Bistro in Kingston, NY was an easy choice. They focus on local, seasonal ingredients and they even sourced a grass fed cow for us to offer as our beef option. Awesome. Our cake was an ice cream cake made by Jane’s Ice Cream in the Hudson Valley; it was the best cake anyone had tasted.  As many couples choose to do, we offered a signature drink at cocktail hour, which was a mint julep – highlighting our love for bourbon (you naughty, delicious beast you).

We sprinkled personal touches throughout the day. Greg and I each wrote our own vows and during the ceremony we passed our wedding bands through the crowd in a small, white satchel, so each loved one could silently bless our rings. Our rings were handmade by a young, Brooklynite jewelry designer, Salt and Stone. We designed our programs (Greg is a graphic designer – super helpful) and offered bubble soap to each guest at the ceremony. Our seating card table was spattered with family wedding pictures as far back as grandparents. Our tables were named after streets in Brooklyn that are important to us; we simply took pictures of the street signs and mounted them on cardstock. I’m a singer in a cover rock band named The Subscribers. My band played a set in the middle of the evening – I sang Walkin’ on Sunshine and there was confetti and oversized beach balls being tossed about everywhere.

To jog all my wonderful memories as I write this, I’m looking at the photography done by Ulysses Photography – a husband and wife team of titanic magnitude. Not only did Jenni and Ulysses capture every smile, every tear, every laugh and every rock and roll hand sign, they inexplicably captured the emotions and feelings of the day in artful candids that portray the life within each moment. I actually found the beautiful venue at which we were married, Onteora Mountain House, looking through wedding photography sites in the weeks after Greg and I were engaged and finding Ulysses’ beautiful photos of another wedding at this location – they were the first vendor I had to have and the rest easily fell into place shortly thereafter.

It’s relatively simple – your wedding is just one, enormous party and the more you’re able to inject facets of what make your relationship special, the more your guests will find themselves sinking deeply into a magical world of wedded bliss. My only complaint is that we couldn’t do it all over again the following weekend!

From the Bride… Joel and I have a pretty sweet love story – we met in high school when we were about fifteen, dated for all of the eleventh grade, then stayed really great friends from then on. Ten years (Almost to the day!) of when we first started dating, we decided it was about time to try this dating thing again. I kind of always knew that Joel was the boy I was going to marry… I just had to convince him that I was the girl. It wasn’t that hard, and 14 years after our first date we were married!

Since I’ve been basically obsessed with weddings since I was little (making my younger sister Courtney be my pretend groom, dressing up dolls, piggy banks, and anything else we could find to pretend they were getting married), I was a bit worried that I wouldn’t be able to settle on anything when the time actually came. I had so many different ideas! When my family and I started going to Bodega Ridge years ago (the owner, Jesse and his girlfriend, Chris are like family), I knew immediately I wanted to get married there one day. It became my inspiration for a relaxed, FUN, outdoors, vintage-y wedding, which helped to narrow things down a bit.

For the next year and a bit, my family, best friend, Joel’s mom, and I crafted and collected our little hearts out! It was without a doubt the funnest year of my life – all thanks to my amazing, supportive, super positive, and always eager friends, family, and my (luckily) very patient groom.

Since we wanted to really spend time with our guests at the wedding, we kept it small (no more than could fit in the six cabins at Bodega) and invited everyone to join us there for the whole weekend. With everyone staying in the same place it really gave people a chance to just relax, have some drinks, play games, and visit. We went to Bodega a few days early to decorate and set everything up – thanks to the help of my tireless family. When most of the guests arrived on Friday, we were able to hang out, relax, and have a super fun welcome BBQ.

On the big day, after setting up the final details and decorations, we headed to our cabins to get ready for the big moment! I thought I would feel nervous, not be able to stop crying, or possibly faint…but all I felt was relaxed, happy, and so excited to finally marry my dream boy. The wedding itself was so fun and relaxed – just how we wanted it. During the ceremony, our niece and nephew did a reading from “I Like You” by Sandol Stoddard Warburg, and our dear friend Mark – who we had asked to do a reading or something – wrote and performed a wedding rap! It was surprising and amazingly hilarious – I think the JP was in shock! The rest of the day went as wonderfully as the ceremony – full of fun, surprising moments (like my bridesmaids turning our “Love story” into a Mad lib for part of their speech!), big laughs, and a whole lotta love!

We had a year (plus) to craft, craft away – and we took full advantage! The majority of the wedding was DIY including all the decor elements, favors, welcome baskets, hangover kits, signs, fans, table numbers, photo booth, wine, drink jars, guest book, pinatas, and much more! Various items were also found at vintage shops and garage sales. I would highly recommend having three crazy and talented sisters, one amazing best friend, the most supportive and loving parents, and an extremely patient groom when planning a DIY wedding – it will be the funnest time ever! Three words that sum up our big day: Best. Day. Ever.

From the Bride…We live in New York City, but we’d always dreamed of having our wedding at the Boca Resort, where took a romantic weekend trip a few years ago. From then on, it became one of our favorite places. There is just something magical about the resort. We wanted the style of our wedding to be classic and elegant — see: our black bridesmaid’s dresses and tuxes – but also unstuffy (see: beers under the Banyon trees during our photo session!)

Daniel and I met in college, and we both love live music and a rocking party. One of the best moments for us was when our maid of honor Chrissy’s dad, Pat Cullinan, joined the band to play rhythm guitar on one of our favorite songs, The AllmanBrothers’ “Blue Sky.” Our goal for the reception was to bring a backyard party into the Cathedral Room, with greenery and bunches of Michelle’s favorite flower, the hydrangea. We ended up breaking out boas and maracas and hopping on stage with the band — we wouldn’t have had it any other way!

Nearly a decade ago, our story began.  John and I met in high school through our mutual group of friends.  Even though we were always with the same group of people during the four years of high school it took three years for John to get the courage to ask me on a date (I’m pretty sure this started his procrastination with the other milestones him and I have shared together).  It was completely worth the wait because after our first date to the annual Schultz firework extravaganza, John and I have been together ever since.  John and I have essentially watched and helped each other grow into the people we are today.  We are each other’s person and I’m thankful (even after waiting nearly a decade) that we can now begin a new chapter together.

When John and I started planning our wedding we decided we wanted to go a route that we haven’t seen before.  I am what John describes as old fashion, simple, timeless, and romantic.  We wanted to try to capture as many of those characteristics as possible.  When our wedding planner, Lindsey Nartker, of Flourish Event Design, got hold of what we wanted she immediately suggested The Colony Club in Detroit Michigan.  Once we saw it we were sold.  The antique look of the venue was perfect.  It has all our characteristics tied fabulously into one venue.  Once we determined our venue the rest just fell into place.  We decided to keep with gold, white, and blush pink colors to help keep the wedding soft and elegant.

From the beginning or our wedding day to the end everything was perfect, a fairy tale almost.  The venue was everything we had worked so hard to create.  It was amazing.  We find it difficult to pick our most vivid memory.  If we had to choose just one moment, we both would say our first look!  A time where the world stopped and it was just John and I.  We shared such a special moment right there in the middle of Detroit.  With such awesome photography and videography that one moment will be remembered forever.  By far a day that John and I will remember forever.

And we can’t bid adieu without cozying up to the loveliest film by one of our favorites, Elysium Productions. Have a look…

From the Bride…Like many couples, our first meeting has two sides to it. While Henry likes to tell the story of how he picked me up in a swanky NYC nightclub called Marquee, I contend that while this is technically true, there was a mutual friend involved who magically disappeared when he saw my ears perk up upon hearing that Henry was on a “girl hiatus.” Always up for a challenge, we wooed each other and spent the whole night talking and dancing. And from that day on, we began to spend every weekend together until our blissful wedding day last June.

With my tendency to act like a child, I had a habit of telling Henry that I wanted him to take me to the moon whenever he asked me what I felt like doing. After a day of wine tastings, a delicious dinner, and a stroll in a little harbor town filled with adorable ice cream shops and craft stores, Henry told me we had one last stop before our two-hour drive back into the city. To my surprise, we ended up in a family run observatory which was basically a small cottage with an enormous telescope poking out of a giant hole in the roof.  As we took turns peering at the gorgeous moon above us, Henry whispered that now that he’d finally taken me to the moon, would I marry him?

Since we lived in New York, we knew that we had to use our weekend trip to California to see as many places as possible and put a deposit down on a venue. Though I did tons of research before our trip, it was my dad who actually found Terranea. As the first place we visited right after landing at the airport, we were blown away by the breathtaking cliff side ceremony site and enthralled by how the resort felt like a little getaway in the middle of the city.

As a girly girl, I’ve always known I wanted pink in my wedding. In terms of style, we wanted the wedding to be representative of us… lovely and pretty like Jackie but really just a giant party. A time to celebrate not only our love for each other, but our family and our very best friends who we were honored would fly out to be with us on our special day, as most came from the east coast or much further away. We also have a strong love for the show Friday Night Lights and believe that the music chosen for the ceremony scene in our wedding video by Explosions in the Sky, perfectly exemplified how we felt during that day.

One wedding tradition that we incorporated into our wedding was the souuuuuul train. We were hoping we would go viral and even though we didn’t, we had a blast forcing our bridal party to make fools of themselves on the dance floor during our first entrance. We’ll never forget the ridiculous skits they came up with as they helped set the mood for a crazy party right from the very beginning.
