From the bride… Our wedding was my dream combination of my past, present and future. My husband and I met in ski academy high school in Vermont but fell out of touch for over 10 years before we literally ran into each other on the streets of Manhattan, where we were both living. We fell in love with each other as friends and then he became the love of my life. Our photographers were also friends of ours from high school. My bridesmaids are the family I found when I moved to the big city from Vermont. The wedding was in Watch Hill, the town where I want my grandchildren to play on the beach in, as my cousins and I did as children.  The gorgeous church across from the Ocean House holds memories of my grandparents and now my wedding. I was left my grandmother’s engagement ring after she passed away, and my husband also was given his grandmother’s ring when she passed away.  I wore them both along with a cross given to me by my parents on a chain my husband gave me before the wedding.  It was a way to have our loved ones that could not be there close to our hearts. I feel so blessed to have this wonderful town in my life and it was the perfect place to get married.  

The theme was inspired by the colors of sea glass.  The focus was on having a wonderful weekend.  Incredible food, bright and sunny drinks and amazing company made it the best weekend of my life.  

Special thanks to Carla from Elements Flowers who was not only an amazing help with the flowers but everything else we did, and to Geoff who made sure our photo booth was a huge success! We custom-ordered our frames from Etsy after trying for a month to find cute photo booth frames and I was thrilled with the result.  The bridesmaids’ dresses were custom-made by the extremely talented and sweet Katie Ermilio. Our parents were the most amazing support team during the entire wedding process. It was amazing to have our wonderful parents, incredible friends and beautiful memories made during our sunny wedding weekend in Watch Hill, Rhode Island.

From Polly of Polly Alexandre Photography… The couple rented the private village of Castelnau des Fiemarcon in Lagarde, Gascony, France, and held a three-day celebration for their wedding. Kate is definitely up there as one of the emotional brides I have worked with, and the day was an incredibly moving, emotional, fun and relaxed celebration. The beauty of a destination wedding is being able to spend so much time with family & friends and here they all stayed with the couple in the little houses in the village. The night before their wedding was a BBQ (Click here for photos!), and the day after held a wonderful meal and tour of a private vineyard with wine tasting. I love the pretty little French soaps and beautiful booklet that greeted us on arrival — a custom guide to the weekend’s festivities, who was staying where and what was happening. Each morning a little bag of fresh French pastries were left outside our rooms … the perfect pick-me-up with with a cup of steaming coffee. It was an absolute pleasure to work with Mike and Kate, and I wish them lots of love for the longest, strongest and happiest marriage together and many years of dog-owning joy!

From the bride… Mike and I wanted our wedding to be personal and decided that we would do away with some of the formalities of traditional weddings and do it “our way” instead. Our invitations were handwritten letters to our guests, we didn’t have wedding favors or a wedding cake and, instead of a guestbook, we took Polaroid photographs of all of our guests at sunset and asked them to write their messages on the back. We chose not to hire a wedding planner and instead, managed to find all of our suppliers in France with the help of the manager of our venue, Didier, who was fantastic. We also had a lot of help from our friends. The husband of one of my bridesmaids created our table plan, table numbers and little personalized information packs that we left for each of our guests on their beds. My mum created a beautiful pagoda out of white muslin for the aisle, which she made using shepherd’s crooks, ribbon and tiny vases filled with heads of white roses. Our family helped us with the mammoth supermarket shop that was required to ensure that 60 people had enough food and drink for three days! One of Mike’s ushers drove to the bakery at the crack of dawn on the wedding day to ensure that everyone had fresh croissants for breakfast. It was really touching to see everyone pitch in.    

The wedding day itself was completely perfect.  One of the highlights for me (apart from marrying Mike!) was opening the beautiful and thoughtful presents he had bought for me. They were presented to me in a huge white box wrapped in ribbon. Inside there were four individually wrapped presents: something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue. The something “blue” was a blue leather passport cover engraved with my married initials. The something “old” was a first edition of Captain Correlli’s Mandolin, an excerpt of which was read during our ceremony. The something “borrowed” was a photo of Pearl, a dog we look after for one of our friends, framed in a vintage silver frame. (I imagine that this sounds very strange, but we have Pearl to thank for meeting our brilliant wedding photographer, Polly Alexandre.) Finally, the something “new” was an amazing pair of diamond earrings, which I wore that day. The rest of the day went without a hitch. Our ceremony took place on the hillside in the afternoon, and after dinner and the speeches, as the sun set, we drank Armagnac under the pagoda that my mum had created. One thing that Mike and I really wanted was for our wedding day to end with a proper party. Since we had the whole village to ourselves, there was no “closing time” as such, and that certainly helped! I am proud to say that Mike and I were amongst the last ones standing at 5 a.m. the next morning! I always thought that people exaggerated when they said this, but I can honestly say that the day I married Mike was the best day of my life.

From Elise of Toast Special Events… Low clouds hung over the Ottawa valley as preparations were being made for Tiffany & Wayne’s ballroom wedding at the Chateau Laurier. Since 1912, this hotel has thrived, hosting royalty, heads of state, political figures, celebrities and members of Canada’s elite. With history imbedded in its monumental standing, I couldn’t help but wonder if throughout the evening I would get a sneak peek of the reported ghost of Hays, the chateau’s architect, who perished on the Titanic on his way the hotel’s grand opening. Needless to say, the energy in our team was exhilarating! Audio visual technicians ran around completing last-minute requests, the 10-piece band rehearsed, flowers were positioned and our wedding coordinators did their final walk-throughs. Ivory satin pin-wheeled linens, gold chivari chairs, soft candlelight and luscious fragrances of floral arrangements awaited our bride who was adorned in a beautiful draped chiffon and French tulle gown. The day was perfect! Tiffany & Wayne said their vows in a quaint little church in the bride’s hometown of Manotick and had pictures taken at the Museum of Nature and the Chateau. The evening progressed with sumptuous food, great live music, cupcakes, happy guests and no ghosts!

From the Bride…We were very lucky to have had such mild weather for a mid-October wedding. While it was mostly overcast with the threat of rain, we had some amazing rays of sun that shone through the stained glass windows of the church just as Wayne and I were reciting our vows. That moment was very special and was commented on by a number of our guests. Another exciting moment was having the opportunity to meet former Prime Minister Jean Chretien and get his congratulations and well wishes for our big day. I even invited him to celebrate with us, but he said he wasn’t dressed appropriately.

One thing I was pretty proud of and got a number of compliments on was my hair. After allowing a stylist to do a trial (as I was advised that I shouldn’t be doing my own hair on my wedding day), I decided I was more comfortable doing my own. It definitely made my day less stressful and allowed me to have a relaxing morning at home with no rushing. In that regard, I would suggest other brides trust their gut. For me, being in control of this detail made me more at ease than I would have been in the hands of someone else. Finally, every decision that was made in regard to the wedding was made by both Wayne and me. It was important for me that this day was a reflection of us and not just me. We are very lucky to have such amazing family and friends who were there to share in those moments with us. I wouldn’t have changed a single thing, and continue to smile when I relive that day in my mind.

From the bride… When it came to planning I knew right away I wanted to have it at the Round Hill hotel. The hotel, a former pineapple plantation had the exact style I wanted. It was a glamorous but carefree, a place that housed icons like Babe Paley (my favorite is the Slim Aarons photograph of her in her villa!), Grace Kelly, Noel Crawford and Jackie Kennedy. It was small enough that you can see everyone and large enough that all my guests could stay there. Growing up, my family loved the 1950’s — loved Frank Sinatra and the casual elegance that surrounded that time, so when I saw the place, I fell in love. We actually stayed in villa 25 where is where JFK practiced his now-famous inaugural speech.

We tried to include as much of our family in our ceremony. I wore my grandmother’s vintage diamond chandelier earrings and was married in my other grandmother’s wedding band. Our kiddish cup was used in David’s brother’s wedding, we had two tallis’ on the table under the chuppah. One was David’s and one was my grandfather’s whose name was also David. It was to symbolize the old and the new. The ceremony was located on the other side of the Infinity Pool on a cliff overlooking the ocean. There was a candle lit passage way spanning the entire hotel that led to the reception! My mom and I had a stamp created with myself and David’s monogram that Neither Snow made. All three of us stamped each muslin bag with it, and then we restrung the bags with linen and white butchers’ twine. Instead of favors, we wanted to incorporate our dog Frankie — who is the love of our lives — so we donated money in everyone’s honor to an animal charity and wrote it on the menu! My mom hand made all the happy tears hankies – she had a stamp made on etsy that said “B+D” like david’s cufflinks and hand-stamped each of them.

The most special moment was at the rehearsal dinner when all the guests lit Khom Loy lanterns. Khom Loy lanterns are meant to bring good fortune and also represented where we would be going on our honeymoon… Thailand!

From the bride… I have to admit that I imagined our wedding day long before we were actually engaged. I wasn’t exactly the little girl planning her wedding at 10 years old, but I do professionally plan events for a bridal magazine, so ever since I began working for the magazine, I paged through issue after issue of Minnesota Bride, collected pages of inspiration and naturally envisioned what my wedding day would look like. I’m somewhat of a perfectionist, so I like to think that a good amount of thought and planning went into every single detail. As most brides do, I spent countless hours online looking at wedding blogs for inspiration and ideas that would really wow guests, but also reflect David and I as a couple. Although we didn’t really have a wedding theme in mind, the decor and overall design elements had sort of a vintage-glamour look, from the lace, linen and vintage vanity mirrors used for table numbers to the all white floral and candlelight. In terms of colors we went with timeless classics: black, white, silver and gray. We knew we wanted a formal wedding, but what we didn’t want our guests to think it was going to be so formal that it wasn’t going to be a good time. So in order to set a fun tone for the event, we worked with the amazing Gretchen Berry of Watermark Stationery to create the perfect wedding suite, which added a whimsical element with an accordion fold-out invitation placed in a mini envelope and custom calligraphy from a local talent, Crystal Kluge.

David and I were married at Lake of the Isles Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota on a beautiful, sunny, 75 degree day. Our 215 guests filled the small, 75-year-old church perfectly. And, as I had heard from several brides before me, the whole ceremony was a blur, but a perfect blur. I wore the wedding dress of my dreams, an ivory Vera Wang gown made with layers of silk organza and tulle. Following the ceremony, David and I drove around the Minneapolis uptown lakes area in a vintage white Bentley and upon arriving at the reception, were greeted by our closest family and friends who had started the party for us. From the food, lighting, decor, floral and music to our amazing family and friends who have loved and supported us from day 1, it was truly a dream come true. I can’t thank our incredible wedding vendors enough for helping us create the wedding of our dreams. Matt Blum Photography and Matt Brue of Capture Studios, you documented our wedding day perfectly.

The most important piece of advice I would give to any brides-to-be is to hire a day-of coordinator. We worked with an absolutely wonderful wedding planner, Mi Mi Design, run by the talented Amy Red and Amy Blonde. David and I were able to enjoy every moment of the day and didn’t worry about a thing. Everything came together perfectly and I have all of our vendors to thank for that.

From the Bride… Our theme was “11:11 Make A Wish.” We wanted our wedding to feel like our guests arrived in an enchanted space. The Metropolitan Building was the perfect space to make this happen. The ceremony on the second floor was our “Secret Garden” and going upstairs for the reception on the fourth floor, we transformed it into a “Backyard Party.”

Our guests picked up their namecards, which were hotel key cards, that brought them to their next destination. Guests went to their tables, which were numbered with the name of a city we want to travel to. The major decoration was the string lights with lanterns along the ceiling, which gave the place a magical glow. We also had a wishing tree and dream fountain for our guests to make wishes throughout the night. They even walked out of the wedding with something glowing — our wedding favor was a mason jar with a “firefly” inside (really a fairy berry LED light).

Our guests loved our photobooth on a park bench (we got engaged on a park bench) with fun props to pose with. We were excited for our first dance, which we performed to a song called “Into Eternity” by Jens Lekman. We danced the night away and even had an 11:11 countdown, which a friend suggested that made it feel like New Year’s!

We are so thrilled to be able to share the film from Bella Pictures too…

From the bride… Both Peter and I are of Greek descent, so we immediately knew that our wedding was going to be large, filled with family and friends. The ceremony took place at our childhood church, Saint Nectarios Greek Orthodox Church in Palatine, Illinois, and keeping up with Orthodox tradition, our wedding crowns were bought in Greece and had the shape of an olive branch wreath.

After the ceremony, we celebrated in the beautiful main ballroom of the Concorde Banquets in Kildeer, Illinois. Although our wedding took place in the suburbs of Chicago, we still wanted a touch of Greece. Guests first caught a glimpse of the theme when the cloth-covered book invites arrived several weeks before the wedding. Filled with silver pages and a yellow satin bookmark, the theme of an olive branch was found on each page. The olive theme continued in the hall as guests found their table numbers with three large opened books surrounded by old photographs of our parents’ and grandparents’ weddings in olive branch frames.

Guests entered the ballroom and were greeted by 10 olive trees, each over three feet, that were created by our florist and placed on the outer tables. The banquet-style table layout kept conversations going and were a nice reminder of Greek summer celebrations. The tables were filled with plenty of candles that created a nice glow in the room. Mercury glass vases of various shapes and sizes filled with butter yellow roses, white hydrangeas and a pop of lemon and eucalyptus leaves  created a very romantic and vintage feeling. Alongside the candles and flowers were grey, cloth-covered books that added height and depth to the floral arrangements. This was the same cloth used for the wedding invites.

Our love of books carried over to the dessert area where we had three white bookcases filled with homemade desserts and vintage books. Between the two dessert bookcases we had a Jordan almond bar. Jordan almonds called koufeta in Greek are a traditional candy for Greek weddings. The koufeta bar was a play on the classic candy bar and was filled with sweet flavors such as lemon, honey, chocolate and strawberry. Placed on top of the bookcases were some items that represent both the bride and the groom. Each guest also received a small natural burlap bag filled with Jordan almonds, which are given for good luck. The burlap bags reminded us of the large burlap sacks used during the olive harvest. Some of our highlights from that day included the church service, which was steeped in tradition, and dancing with our guests until late in the night. We loved having family come in from Greece and other parts of the country to celebrate with us that day, and we couldn’t get enough of our eight flower girls who almost stole the show.

From the bride… Curtis and I both moved to Los Angeles after college to work in the entertainment industry. At the time, Curtis was working for the actor Hugh Jackman and I was working for the restaurateur/entrepreneur Sam Nazarian of SBE Entertainment. A mutual friend of ours suggested that we meet, which is typical for executive assistants in the industry. Thinking nothing of it, we got together for drinks after work one day at the Thompson Hotel in Beverly Hills. Three hours, a bottle of wine, and a bizarre number of similarities later, we knew we were meant to be. After a job change and a six-month long distance relationship, Curtis whisked me away to Atlanta by proposing with my family in tow over a Thanksgiving holiday in the North Georgia mountains.  

Both of our families are scattered across the nation, so we decided to have everyone come to us for the big day. Atlanta has the world’s busiest airport so we figured it wouldn’t be too difficult for our love ones traveling from afar to attend. We wanted the wedding to evoke a rustic sophistication and to focus heavily on the divine cuisine that JCT Kitchen offers. The evening was elegant, organic, and whimsical – just what we had hoped for. Two non-traditional elements to the wedding that I conjured up were our smoked salt favors, which were made for us by one of our favorite Atlanta chefs, Chris Hall of Local Three (where our rehearsal dinner was held), and our cheesecake cake. Two elements that Curtis contributed were a surprise gift of one dozen six-foot-tall “long” stem roses flown in from Brazil and our send-off in a red helicopter.  And thus, my fairytale ending came true!
