From Caplan Miller Events… Megan and Jess chose the perfect venue for their perfect Texas ranch wedding on a perfect Saturday spring evening!  Megan wanted to be sure the wedding wasn’t too girlie for her cowboy husband and wanted everything to be authentically theirs.

Guests were greeted with lavender lemonade as they passed through the gates keeping the longhorn and cows at bay.  The bride walked beneath crystal chandeliers and she met her soon-to-husband in front of a gallery of candles.  After the ceremony, the guests flocked to the outdoor grill where chips, queso, and enchiladas were being served up at the grooms request!  The music turned festive when the fiddle began to play and the guests walked around to see all the beautiful and playful details of the property.

Vineyard tables with lace runners where set with the palest of pink and peach flowers along with succulents arranged in vintage medicine bottle and mason jars.  The guests dined on a menu of barbecue and Mexican bites that included bacon wrapped quail, wild mushroom empanadas, and BBQ brisket on potato rolls.  As night fell, Texas rock country signer Johnny Cooper took the stage and got everyone dancing to some old favorites, as well as his original hits. The bride and groom were sent away as the guests whirled and swirled their noise makers into the night!

From the Bride…Will and I got engaged in June 2010.  We chose to get married at my parents ranch in Gonzales, TX because it was important to both of us that we get married somewhere that has sentimental value for us: a place we have shared many happy memories and a place where our children will grow up visiting.  Getting married at the ranch had both the charm of getting married at home and the feel of a destination wedding.

I didn’t want to limit myself to choosing just one or two wedding colors, so instead, I chose a color palette of fresh spring colors: greens, light blues, different shades of pink.  Along these same lines, I chose different color bridesmaid dresses in neutral colors like champagne, stone, blush and petal.  I wanted the vibrant flowers to stand out against their dresses.  I was very particular when it came to the flowers in the wedding.  I wanted the flowers to look wild but elegant.  I chose to use a mixture of Garden Roses, Freesia, Tulips, Thistle, Peonies and Sweet Peas for the bridesmaid bouquets.  I used the same mixture of flowers on the dinner tables in alternating birch and glass vases.

We had Perini Ranch Steakhouse cater the seated dinner which was wonderful.  Perini’s brings their chuck wagons and mesquite wood and they grill the tenderloins on-site.  We had a lot of guests fly in from the northeast and California so, it was important to us to stay true to the Texas Ranch Wedding and to give our guests a taste of Texas.  The menu included: green chile hominy, twice baked potatoes, fresh green beans, and mesquite beef tenderloin with dusted shrimp. For dessert we had chocolate and vanilla cupcakes from Delish Cupcakes in Austin.

My favorite part of the wedding was the ceremony on Clinton’s Hill.  Named “Clinton’s Hill” in honor of my brother-in-law who passed away in November. Another favorite was seeing the dancing tent for the first time.  My older sister, Bianca, surprised me and had a “confetti wall”  inspired by an artist in Brooklyn.  So fun and beautiful!  It reminded me of a 1950′s prom. I also loved working so closely with Cheree Berry Paper on designing my Save-the-Dates, invites and day-of-items.  Cheree Berry also designed the paper for my sister, Bianca, and her husband, Clinton’s, wedding.  The people at Cheree Berry are so incredibly talented and working with them was such a joy. It was a wonderful night and I feel so grateful to everyone that contributed to making it so very special for me and my husband.

From Ashley Garmon Photographers…This caberet-style wedding was all about family.  The mother of the bride had her vision of the chuppah from the start.  She designed a family tree with photos of all of the bride and groom’s family members. She had this screen printed onto fabric and used as the chuppah.  It was outlined with florals and then suspended over the dance floor.  Guests entered our ballroom and were ushered to their dinner tables. The tables were set for dinner and a program/menu card combination was displayed at each place setting.  Guests sipped champagne and nibbled on candied nuts during the ceremony.

Once the wedding ended… the ballroom went dark…. and a spotlight hit the service doors as the servers paraded in with the first course. The dance floor was cleared of the ceremony stage and screens were removed to reveal the band for dinner and dancing.  The suspended chuppah was now the dance floor decor and hung overhead all night.  After the served first course, guests were invited to the themed food stations that were each paired with a cocktail from that region — tex-mex cuisine and margaritas, greek food and ouzo, sushi and sake, italian and chianti, texas cuisine and Shiner Bock and more.

From Caplan Miller Events… Martha Lynn and Trevor wanted a wedding that felt as if it was held in their backyard.  They love lots of “southern” touches — mason jars, sweet tea, lace, milk glass.  We combined it all for an incredible Texas evening under the stars.

Guests were greeted with Texas beer and sweet tea as they made their way to the ceremony site. The ceremony was officiated by the bride’s uncle. Our guitarist learned Bon Jovi’s “Dead or Alive” for the groom’s processional.  The girls came down to “Pretty Woman.” Afterwards, the guests enjoyed a poolside cocktail hour and a Texas-style buffet dinner. The bride created a donut table in honor of her grandmother who she loved having Krispy Kreme donuts with as a young girl. Guests enjoyed mini cupcakes, wedding cake, donuts and a custom groom’s cake – a 2-side beer can.  One side Lone Star and the other side Rainer.  Both represented his Seattle roots and his current home in Texas.  They were sent off with sparklers and departed in an antique limo.

Melissa Waldrop wanted her wedding to be an unforgettable party and wanted to forget all the traditions.  There was no cake cutting, father-daughter dance or big send-off for this bride.  Instead, we held a very intimate ceremony at a historic home on Barton Creek, where guests all gathered around the couple in a circle.  Guests enjoyed fine cigars and scotch during the cocktail hour, where the topic of discussion was “what is up with those swans?”  Afterwards guests dined on the lawn under vintage chandeliers hanging from the oak trees.  DJ Chicken George got everyone shaking on the dance floor and once all had worked up their appetites again we served Chick-fil-A, the bride’s favorite!

Jackie, Nick and their families were such a pleasure to work with! You would have never known it was raining cat and dogs on their wedding day…and at The Wildflower Center no less! Their completely outdoor wedding changed on a moments notice as tents had to be brought in and with the ceremony and cocktail reception moving indoors. The wedding party handled everything with such grace it made the wedding that much more beautiful!

The colors were aubergine and apple green. The bridesmaids’ bouquets were in shades of purple composed of anemones, tulips and swet peas. The brides bouquet was in all white adorned with vintage family brooches.

The ceremony was held in the ampitheater making is dramatic and romantic. The cocktail reception took place in the gallery with jazz group The Lucky Strikes playing. Dinner was held under a tent with purple venetian chandeliers – table flower arrangements had an organic feel using manzanita branches and hanging candles.

The bride and groom live in Alaska and brought the most northern state down south by having Alaskan beer, serving Baked Alaskan Pies for dessert and having “Alaskan Snow Ball” (aka cake balls) as favors.

The night ended on a high note with the bride and groom leaving in a vintage Rolls Royce with a trail of fireworks a la My Best Friends Wedding!

What do you get when two Manhattanites uproot to Marfa, Texas and get married?  A perfectly laid-back and chic event filled with elegant decor and bursts of rustic goodness!  This wedding from Kate Mefford and the talented folks at Caplan Miller Events totally sold me when I laid eyes on that vintage airstream bar and those candy-colored metal chairs!  Get over to the full gallery to see even more from this Manhattan meets Marfa extravaganza!

Melissa Boswell, a New York transplant was looking to plan very fun, Texas-style wedding.  Since the bride and groom had recently purchased a home in the very trendy Marfa, Texas it was only fitting to theme her wedding Marfa meets Manhattan!  We set up a vintage airstream for a bar and served fresh lime margaritas and martinis.  The menu featured chicken pot pies, tomato bisque, and frito pies, just to name a few. Instead of the traditional guestbook, guests were asked to leave a suggestion for the suggestion box!  To fight off the winter chill we gave the guests cozy pashminas and cream colored snuggly blankets.  Spiked hot chocolate also warmed up the guests for an evening of dancing to eighties cover band, The Spazmatics.  The bride and groom departed as any New Yorker would, via taxi cab!

Courtney Caplan definitely gave it her all when planning her brother’s wedding!

Kevin and Lizzie met in the parking lot of a grocery store when she accidentally hit a bird with her car! All through their engagement, we joked about it, but when it came to their wedding, we used it as our inspiration. Originally, Lizzie wanted a “starry nights” theme. Rather than taking a literal approach, we compromised on a blue and white color scheme with huge white blooms and phalaenopsis orchids to represent the stars.

This was a traditional Jewish wedding. The chuppah was completely covered in moss – it looked like a giant topiary! Then Petal Pushers added tons of gorgeousness to it with bunches and bunches of white flowers.

We used blueberry jelly beans to hold our escort cards and kept a theme throughout with the Elum Aviary stationery used as menu cards, table number and escort cards.

We also incorporated a piece of specialty glassware to carry on the blue theme at the dinner tables.

Our congratulations to Elizabeth & Kevin and a huge thank you to Courtney for showcasing so many of our Little Black Book members at this very special occasion!
