This next litte fete brings together three things that I obsess over on a daily basis…papel picado perfection, the genius that is Anna Bond of Rifle Paper Company and flowers that will make your wedding heart sing. And the result? A completely adorable and yet decidedly chic celebration that reflects the bride and groom flawlessly. From Jaime of JAC Photography… Cecile and James are from England and planned their destination Palm Springs wedding with inspiration from websites and magazines. She chose soft oranges with pinks and soft greens, all touching on the delicate palette of the desert. For the ceremony, they had soft coral and green paper umbrellas to shield their guests from the warm desert sun. Anna Bond from Rifle Paper Company did all of the paper details, so soft and pretty for the color palette Cecile chose! They had a very intimate wedding at the O’Donnell House, which overlooks the desert. As the night approached, there were small flickering lights that lit the dance floor.

From the bride… James and I married at a 1920s Spanish-style house, O’Donnell House, that has been lovingly restored and is located in the mountains overlooking Palm Springs. The views are absolutely beautiful. We brought in both Spanish and Filipino-influenced traditions, as well as vintage wood signs made by Camilla Svensson Burns and hand-cut paper papel picado, as well as whimsical type-faced calligraphy and custom invitations from Rifle Paper Company.

We live in London, England and wanted to have an outdoor reception and ceremony (not a possibility here in England, as outdoor ceremonies are not permitted). As I had lived in southern California for a long time, California was our natural first choice for a destination wedding. We did all of our planning from overseas and were fortunate to find and work with fantastic vendors, including our photographers, Chris and Jamie at JAC Photography, our event coordinator Laurie Lund at the Events Department, and our wonderful makeup artist Renee Lee.

Michael + Anna Costa.…how do I count the ways. You’ve given us SUCH a lovely day of wedding gorgeousness, with photographs that would make even the grumpiest of wedding gurus smile in total delight. And this next fete is no exception. With the modelesque bride and groom, the intimate but oh-so-romantic styling, the flowers that Camilla Svensson Burn crafted with pure love. And, of course, Jill La Fleur was involved in a day this lovely with a Santa Barbara backdrop that gave her the perfect canvas to work her magic. Oh and there’s even more goodness in the galleries.

Wrap it up Pretty + A Jill La Fleur Workshop Announcement

Another week of loveliness has come and gone here at SMP. We’ve seen enough pretty to last a lifetime and we are pretty sure that our heads are spinning with images perfect bouquets and first kisses swirling around in wedding heaven. And even though the weekend is here and we’re ready to kick off our heels (or in this case, our slippers and yoga pants), we couldn’t resist sharing one last bit of wedding goodness. So pretty that you just might in fact squeal out loud or spontaneously combust or something. The pics are shot by our friend and photo God, Jose Villa from the fabulous Jill La Fleur’s recent workshop in Ojai. Ballet Inspired Shoot by Jessica Claire + Jill La Fleur

Black Swan seems to have taken the world by storm and its reach can even be seen in the wedding world with ballet inspired bridal fashion popping up everywhere we turn and we aren’t complaining. The glamour, the romance, the ballet shoes…the girly girl in us is squealing with delight. But honestly, once we saw this shoot styled so, so beautifully by the awesome Jill La Fleur we forgot about the movie or any other ballet inspired shoot to date. All eyes were on this beauty and the gorgeous images by another one of our favorites, Jessica Claire. So get comfy SMPers because this shoot is FILLED with beautiful tidbits and there is a whole gallery for you to explore once your done poring over this post.

From Jill La Fleur… Since I was a little girl, I loved the ballet and of course like most little girls wanted to be a ballerina! I was one for a short while and I still remember the feeling of putting on my ballet shoes and tutu to this day! It’s playing ultimate dress-up! Recently, I was completely inspired by the incredible movie, Black Swan! The movie itself was amazing but what I couldn’t stop thinking about were the ballet outfits, the dance studio and the romance. I couldn’t wait to create a ballerina inspired wedding shoot after seeing this film! I pictured a ballet studio with beautiful window light, a beautiful black dress and romantic ballet-inspired blush dress and of course the shoes! I pictured feathers and wings and stunning hair/makeup. I wanted to bring in some romance and pictured an old phonograph, a cellist and an antique dressing table. The tabletop was dressed like a ballerina itself! The linens and lamp shades were all custom made and the champagne carafe and flutes were antiques. The models were all dancers and really enjoyed “dressing up” and doing what they loved to do…dance! How beautiful would a wedding be with all of this romantic ballet inspiration! I think little girls dream of being two things from a very young age…a ballerina and a bride! And this inspirational shoot brought the two together so beautifully!

Santa Barbara Wedding by Beaux Arts Photographie + Brooke Keegan

Brooke Keegan always manages to hand-craft the most STUNNING affairs. The kind of affairs that we mull over long after they make their SMP debut and this particular wedding has us wishing everyday was a sunshiny Santa Barbara day. Not to mention, the gorgeousness that is every.single.image captured by Beaux Arts Photographie. Oh pretty, pretty pictures + the California coast + one lovely wedding = BLISS. Janet and Mark wanted to celebrate their special day with their closest friends and family. After searching for the perfect venue from Santa Barbara to San Diego, they decided on the gorgeous Bacara Resort. When I first met with them, they told me photography was the most important detail of the day. After describing the style and feel that they wanted, I referred them to the talented Kirsten Ellis of Beaux Arts Photographie. Kirsten captured the day beautifully and the couple couldn’t be happier. For the ceremony, we kept it very simple since we had such an amazing backdrop. Camilla Svenson Burns used catches of lavender to line the chairs and a small garden cart for the sand ceremony. Sparrow Lane Ensemble played the strings during the ceremony. For the reception, we decided on one long family style table so that everyone felt that they were a VIP – which they were. Janet wanted to make sure to incorporate lavender, as Bacara has their own lush lavender fields on property. Each place setting has a sachet of lavender and a hand calligraphers place card. We used beautiful mercury votives and vessels for the white florals that went down the center of the long dining table. We strung bulb lights above to create light and ambiance. Mark is in the music industry and had a good friend and professional disc jockey, DJ 4Tify spin music throughout the evening. They had Photobooth Scrapbooks set up so that their guests could use the photo booth throughout the evening – it was a complete hit. There was also a surprise performance where the Groom serenaded the Bride – there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. It was also important for Janet to pay respect to her late Father, so we had a reserved seat in the front row for him and instead of the Father/Daughter Dance, she danced with her mom to Luther Vandross’ “Dance with My Father Again.” It was so touching!

Santa Barbara Wedding: The Film by Joel Serrato

As promised, we are back with the most lovely of films to end this day of gorgeous weddings and really, we couldn’t think of a better grand finale than this masterpiece from Joel Serrato. He has this way of making films that not only take our breath away each and every time but also make us feel as if we were there, celebrating the happy, happy day. So grab some coffee and your favorite cozy seat for this heart-warming number. You’ll be so glad you did…

Santa Barbara Wedding by Jose Villa + Jill La Fleur

This next wedding may not be south of the border per say but it definitely has the festive flavor of Mexico tucked into every perfect corner as well as a team of really talented vendors behind the scenes. Jill La Fleur lent her amazing eye for design to this fete and created what can only be described as the most colorful, most creative, most knock you out of your seat wedding we’ve seen in a long time. Add to that Jose Villa’s breathtaking images and a super adorable and oh-so-in-love couple and we have the makings of THE BEST WEDDING EVER. From Jill La Fleur… Katie and Mike were such a fun-loving couple and planning their wedding with them was so much fun for me! In choosing the Santa Barbara County Courthouse and the Santa Barbara Historical Museum, and having lived in Santa Barbara, they really wanted to capture the Spanish feel of this city, which they love about it, and incorporate it in to their wedding. And the best part…they wanted any and all fun and creative ideas to be thrown their way to make their day truly unique and festive!

We used Spanish tiles and had them hand-printed to make into escort cards and ordered Spanish tile table numbers as well. Maracas were a fun addition for the guests to play along with by the dance floor! The bar, which I designed with the help of Bella Vista Designs, was made to feel like a true Mexican Cantina, complete with props he purchased down in Mexico and a full tequila back-bar. And we decided tequila was the way to go for toasts rather than Champagne, so we rented tequila shot glasses, while the family brought in unique bottles of tequila for each table to toast with. The beautiful lanterns overhead were also purchased in Mexico by Bella Vista Designs and they hand-made the colorful paper lanterns. The pinata, created by Camilla Svensson Burns, was filled with Mexican candy and sweet love notes. The paper banners were designed with the couple’s names and wedding date…a festive touch and a great memento for them to take home. The churros and churro cupcakes were amazing with the Mexican Hot Chocolate and a big hit at the end of the night!

The couple were beautiful, truly in love, super-fun, and truly gracious…one of my favorite weddings of year to help design and plan!

You will, no doubt, get down on your knees and beg to be invited!

From Talani, Robert’s b e a u t i f u l bride … “Ours is a story of a deep friendship turned into a greater love!”

When Robert met Talani, he said, “There is a certain sparkle in her eyes!” And he knew she was ever-so special!

Their wedding was an elaborate and loving affair planned and designed with the expertise of many amazing vendors!

The vibrancy and the passion between Talani & Robert was evident in every moment of this day!
