They were married at Terra d’Oro in September and the images that Allison Stahl captured are nothing short of fantastic!

Here’s a little bit from Kristi about their wedding inspiration …

The inspiration for our wedding started with the lovely town of Sutter Creek. Justin and I both loved the friendly, comfortable, small town feel. It was really important for us to have a fun day that reflected us as a couple. Once we discovered Sutter Creek, we started checking out wineries and fell in love with Terra d’Oro. When they described to us how my dad and I would enter down the stairs and through the huge doors, it was too good to pass up.

Most of our favorite times together involve getting outside, fishing, camping and enjoying fresh air. The fall colors came naturally to us once we settled on the venue. With the beautiful trees, vineyards, and wooden trellis, it was the natural choice. Justin does a lot of graphic design for his work and since we both love fishing together, we decided to name all of the tables after local fish. Justin was inspired by a book on vintage travel posters and he came up with all of the designs for the table cards which also served as the menus. I got to choose my favorite country songs for the reception which included “River of Love” by George Strait and “Fishing in the Dark” by the Nitty Gritty Band. It was the perfect setting and the perfect group of family and friends.

We designed the cake with a lot of help from Justin’s sister, Shannon. She lives in San Francisco and took us to this lovely shop which sells nothing but beautiful ribbon. We spent hours sorting through different styles until we came up with the final design. Ingrid did a wonderful job putting it all together – and it tasted it even better.

Martha Andrews designed some pretty incredible florals to wow Kristi & Justin’s guests!

Regardless of the special spot I have for this wedding, it’s packed full of fun little details that are sure to provide tons of inspiration to all of you design gurus out there.

Erin and Kevin arranged for a less than traditional timeline and had a pre-ceremony cocktail hour where they greeted their guests as they arrived. It was so nice to move straight from the ceremony right into dinner at two long tables, one on either side of the Traxx courtyard.

I love this bold color palette, the retro-inspired monogram, and the completely perfect vintage train motif. They really play up the art-deco vibe of the location and the refined playfulness of the couple. Thank you to Britney and Joe from Turn Loose the Art for sending this wedding our way. Congratulations Erin and Kevin!

We wanted to have an eclectic vintage outdoor wedding. When we visited Newcastle Wedding Gardens for the first time, I just knew it was the perfect place for our wedding; the setting is one of incredible natural beauty mixed with old world charm. And I just loved the idea of having our reception in a BARN! Tory and I decided to do photos before the ceremony, and I’m so glad we did. It was really special to have that first moment between just the two of us.

My bouquet was adorned with a brooch that was my great grandmother’s. We had a basket of vintage hankies that I had collected from eBay near the guestbook; an attached sign invited guests to take one for their happy tears.

Karen is the vp of creative services at Williams Sonoma and is known in her circle of friends for her love of the color orange! It seems pretty safe to say that with those credentials, her wedding is going to be good!

Natasha ~ the terrific floral and event designer behind this affair said this of Karen & Carter’s wedding …

The style of the wedding was very organic and nature-inspired. For the ceremony we used rustic white birch sculptures with kiwi vines and an explosion of orange flowers. The aisle was defined with leaves instead of rose petals. We used many whimsical organic elements in the florals – berries, pods, grasses, persimmons, pomegranates and figs in centerpieces and arrangements. Karen’s bouquet was wrapped in bark-covered wire with a brooch made of a tiny pomegranate, and included orchids, monkey tails, chocolate cosmos and lots of different interesting grasses and greens.

And from the bride …

I’d sum up my style as “rustic elegance” – we focused on the natural charm of the setting, highlighting with summer’s most vibrant colors and flavors. We really wanted to keep everything very personal, inviting all our guests to a destination wedding in our own home town of Mill Valley… …tables were named for favorite destinations where Carter and I have explored the great outdoors….twigs, pinecones, and birch were all parts of local nature we wanted to bring inside…

If you envision major decoration installations, lighting plans and other means to “transform” this space into something else, this site is NOT for you. The OAC is meant for people who appreciate the site’s rustic style and charm. For those this space can be a magical, memorable setting for your event.

From Karli and Nick…

We let the location set the stage for all of the many details of the day. We chose a caterer, Living Room Events, that understands the importance of using local and seasonal produce. We felt it would be so special for our guests to experience local, fresh produce, especially if it came straight from the farm. We really liked the idea of finding and using little things that made the day completely unique to us. We found so many beautiful, handmade items on Etsy, from the sweet cotton lovebirds on top of our cake, to the bridesmaids’ beautiful citrine and gold bracelets. One of our favorite finds was the distressed white wooden “S” for “Spence.” When we bought it we had no idea what we would do with it, but we just loved it!

Sent to us by LBB member and photographer extraordinare, Lauri Levenfeld of Zoom Photography this wedding is filled to the brim with steal-worthy ideas and inspiration. But I think it might be the beautiful, rich fall colors that make this wedding so completely delightful. Well, that and of course, the adorable couple.

From the beautiful bride…

For dinner, we wanted our family and friends to feel like they were at a special dinner party in someone’s backyard (albeit, a very gorgeous one). We loved the cozy feel of rustic wooden farm tables and created our own unique place settings by mixing and matching various vintage plates, glasses and flatware. Jennifer at Lush created the most gorgeous centerpieces using a mixture of green, rustic urns and various sized glass jars. We wanted everything to look thought-out, but not overdone.

We worked with Dauphine Press to create beautiful, eco-friendly letterpress invitations, as well as stationary for the wedding day. We carried a rustic, orange floral design through the programs, menu cards and escort cards. On the back of each person’s escort card was a special note letting them know that we had made a donation in their honor to our favorite charity, the Touch A Life Foundation.

Think wedding is just soooo sweet… and as a (former) September bride, I have to admit, this makes me a little nostalgic. *swoon*. Now, check out these perfect (and pretty) little rustic touches…

We have a lovely wedding for you today. It’s elegant and romantic but still totally playful and carefree. Shot by always amazing, Zoom Photography, this wedding is pure bliss. Luscious flowers, beautiful bride, charming groom, gorgeous details…there’s so much to love, I’m really not sure where to start?!?! We knew when we began planning for the wedding that we wanted a celebration that truly reflected who we are as a couple: casual, easy-going and socially conscious. When we stumbled upon Bear Flag Farm in Winters, California, we knew it was perfect. Bear Flag Farm is a completely organic farm that emphasizes the “farm to table” use of produce, making a point to incorporate various bounties from the farm into the wedding day itself. The location is not only stunningly beautiful, but also has that intimate and relaxed feel we were looking for.

The knock-out bride and adorable bridesmaids all wore Amsale. And the ah-mazing flowers were designed by Lush Floral. More coming up in just a few…

from the groom, Mark …

Initially, we were not sure if we were going to have a small wedding with family, or if we were going to stay local, in the Chicago area. We both work part-time in the catering business, and had worked enough weddings to know that we wanted something different from the formal and highly-structured events that we were so familiar with. Also, we were somewhat limited in budget and time. We are both returning students, and are juggling our course load with a number of part-time jobs.

Ultimately we decided that this was our event, and that we would be happier if we ran off together and got married on our own terms. We both love our families dearly, but we wanted the focus of our attention to be on each other, and not necessarily on our guests. This decision took a lot of pressure off of us, and gave us the freedom to do something that would be really meaningful to us. So with the blessing of our families, we decided to run off on our own!

As far as the planning was concerned, we really made it up as we went along, following our hearts and taking advice that resonated with us from people we encountered throughout the planning process. We really had no plans that were set in stone, including location, setting, lodging, officiant and yes, even, photographer. We were very open and flexible throughout the process. We settled on Northern California, and ultimately Muir Beach, as a destination based on some past experiences, but really because of the geography. We are both lovers of the outdoors, and ultimately, we were looking for a setting that was “natural”.

We were not committed to a beach wedding, and have no real ties to the area, but that is ultimately where the process led us. Once we settled on the area, we decided to seek out people who could help us. Trisha had some contacts through the modeling agency she works for, where we found Raul Anthony, the make-up artist. We found our officiant, Mimi Calpestri, by speaking with the event manager of the Pelican Inn, where we had arranged to stay. And Jessamyn, came highly recommended from another friend and photographer in the area. In discussing our ideas with the people involved, we were better able to make informed decisions. Collectively, these individuals helped shape our plans, and were able to steer us away from ideas that were unrealistic or short-sighted (like having the ceremony in Muir Woods). Talking to people who are involved with a lot of weddings in the area was very helpful.

Our clothes were from J Crew. Trisha wanted a dress, that was elegant, but not excessively formal, or overdone, and she liked having the freedom to move around in it. I chose a 3-piece Irish linen suit, perfect for the outdoors, that had a traditional, old-timey feel to it. The pink ribbon seen in T’s dress came recommended by her close friend (and hairdresser in Chicago), Sally Noblett. Flowers were from Mill Valley florist, graciously provided by my mother (who really wanted to be there!). And Trisha’s hand-crafted purse was a gift from her Aunt Emily, who does exquisite needlepoint work (Emily Elizabeth Heirlooms).

Our wedding day started off with a traditional breakfast at Pelican Inn, which provided much needed fuel for a seven mile hike into Muir Woods and back. Visiting the grandeur of the redwoods seemed like a nice preamble to our big occasion, and provided a nice respite from the sunny skies unseasonably warm temperatures. After some lunch and a nap, we woke to a heavy fog, which really added a surreal and ethereal presence to our ceremony, and made for some great photographs.

In addition to our stay at Pelican Inn during the week, we spent two nights in San Francisco, at the Huntington Hotel & Spa in Nob Hill (We have to go back to San Francisco!). And we also spent two nights at Hope Cottage at Green Gulch Farm (SF Zen Center) overlooking the very spot where we got married! There were a lot of unknowns getting married this way, but it really did feel like an adventure, and we both feel that it exceeded our expectations. Everyone we worked with was wonderful, and we always have fond memories of our wedding, and look forward to returning to the area again in the future to revisit what was really a lovely occasion.

Dave and Jenny’s wedding was a long awaited, MUCH anticipated, exclusive event of the year!  My good friend and fellow photographer friend Dave married his high school sweetheart and mother of his two beautiful children at the Firehouse Restaurant in Old Sacramento. Wow, so much to say! First of all, I’ll start by saying there was an absolute role-reversal in planning this wedding. Dave (admittedly) was the “Bride”, handling all the vendor selections, planning and details. With a little push in the right direction from me, he got in touch with Martha Andrews of Blooms. Together, they took his and Jenny’s ideas and added Martha’s artistry!

And from Martha …

The Firehouse Restaurant is an institution in town, where law makers, governors etc… frequent. It really WAS originally a firehouse! Jenny and Dave started the day off in downtown Sacramento, a lovely old building that has been converted into a boutique hotel ~ The Citizen Hotel. The groom, an aspiring photographer  basically gave me a color scheme and told me to do whatever I wanted because he trusted me. I went with twigs hung with crystals and votive candles, then candles embedded in the flower base. Down the aisle I floated orchids in gel and topped it off with floating candles. I made the flower girl basket out of flowers. I hung crystal votives in the trees surrounding the courtyard and flowers in the fountain.

Jessamyn Harris is sharing Melissa & Brett’s lively vintage-styled wedding with us, today. Melissa, Brett, friends & family and their wedding planner Jess Flood all pitched in to make this a fantasticly memorable day!

… truly vintage touches throughout the day … and a custom-made chandelier … wow!

Melissa’s daughter, Hailie also had a special part in the ceremony …

According to Jessamyn, the chandelier was made from recycled metal from a local winery’s oak barrels. Pretty cool idea!

And as we mentioned earlier, Melissa painted old window frames to use throughout the space for menus and such …

My friends and I cut out over three hundred fabric napkins and my mom made our ring pillow out of felt wool and antique lace. Brett cut all the stumps for the children’s table, cake stand and boutonniere holder. My MOH and I made all of the boutonnieres from found objects from many places. Most of the decorative items were found at estate sales and salvage yards ~ wheelbarrow, buttons for boutonnieres, old window frames … I even found produce boxes in a neighbor’s barn! The mason jars were from The Summer Cottage Antique Store in Petaluma. My dad and grandfather’s antique bottle collection served as vases and we adorned the vintage cake topper with pretties from Castle In The Sky and Tale of the Yak.  Most of the old pictures were of family and family wedding photos.

Whew! And that’s just the beginning …

Melissa and Brett were married at Healdsburg Country Gardens surrounded by friends, family and what looks like ~ a ton of fun …

This first image is probably my favorite! Ingrid does amazing things with trees in her photographs!

From the earlier post on Natalie and Brian’s wedding, you’ll remember that they had a small bridal party ~ just siblings who were allowed to wear anything they wanted. Natalie loves yellow and incorporated it into the flowers. The splashes of color in an otherwise naturally green surrounding is positively perfect!

This is the awesome nature-inspired wedding of Natalie & Brian in Grass Valley, CA.

We wanted everything to be as simple and natural as possible. We chose the Empire Mine as our location because it is the most beautiful natural setting with acres of huge trees. It was a place that we liked to visit whenever we were in town visiting my parents, and we especially like that it is a place that we will be able to go back to year after year. To keep things simple we didn’t have a big bridal party, just our three siblings, and they could wear whatever they wanted. Since the park was so pretty, we didn’t have to do too much in terms of decorating. I just love the color yellow, so that was incorporated into the flowers. The Jewish chuppah that we stood under for the ceremony was made of curly willow branches to blend into the surroundings, and the top was crocheted by a close family member. The weather was perfect, everyone we love was there, and everyone had a great time and danced all night. It was just the most beautiful day.

Jennifer and Aamer’s Malibu wedding took place at the Adamson House this past May.

The inspiration for our wedding style was modern, fresh, and FUN! My fiancé and I didn’t want anything to feel too formal, and we wanted a wedding that really reflected us. Growing up in Southern California, my one requirement was that we HAD to get married by the beach.

Aamer and I are huge music fans, and we wanted to find a way to incorporate our love for music into our wedding. It all started with our invitations that were designed by Tifany at Gourmet Invitations. She came up with the fabulous idea of our invite actually being a CD! She also incorporated a sound wave design, which we carried over into other aspects of our wedding.

CEREMONY
We were very fortunate in finding the Adamson House in Malibu!  It is a beautiful historical house right on the beach, with a gorgeous sycamore tree and garden.  Our pre-ceremony music was songs that we loved by bands like Radiohead, Coldplay, and The Smiths ~ performed by a string quartet.  I chose to walk down the isle to Teardrop by Massive Attack, which had personal meaning to my groom and me. 

The wedding ceremony was performed by a dear friend of ours under the beautiful sycamore tree.  He did an excellent job of keeping it light and entertaining, while not detracting from the intimate and meaningful moments.  We wrote our own vows, which really personalized the ceremony.  At the end, we released doves in honor of my mother, who had recently passed away.  It was a very touching moment that we will never forget.

COLOR PALETTE
Our main color was burgundy, which we highlighted with a light pink.  Burgundy has always been my favorite color, and even though we had a spring wedding, I insisted that we still use a dark color.  It turned out that the burgundy really popped against the greenery at the Adamson House, which was an unexpected bonus!

FLOWERS
Our flowers were designed by Floral Art.  I carried a burgundy bouquet made from maroon cymbidium orchids, black calla lilies, baccara roses, and burgundy peonies.  I love the way the flowers looked with my white wedding dress.  The bridesmaids carried pink bouquets made from pink lisianthus, roses, and pink cymbidium orchids.  Aamer wore a miniature black calla lily, and the groomsmen wore miniature pink cymbidium orchids to match the bridesmaids bouquets.

Our cake was designed by Vanilla Bake Shop and was actually tiers of baby cupcakes, with a small cake on top.  To keep things fun, we used Batman and Wonder Woman to top it off!

My dress was designed by Rivini and available exclusively at Lili’s Bridal in Tarzana.  When the sales person showed it to me, I didn’t even want to try it on.  I had a completely different idea of the kind of dress that I wanted to wear.  However, once I reluctantly put it on, I never wanted to take it off!

We wanted a very clean and simple look to our centerpieces.  It took some time, but with the help of our fabulous wedding coordinator, Stephanie Lairson, we came up with the idea of submerging flowers in water.  The centerpieces consisted of 3 cylindrical glass hurricane vases in varying heights filled with submerged flowers, that alternated between black calla lilies pink cymbidium orchids, and burgundy cymbidium orchids.  They were all placed on a round dark wood tray and surrounded by votive candles

Our table numbers were actually names of our favorite bands.  One side had the band name written out with the sound wave design and the other side had a CD cover from that band.  The menus were done in our color palette with a burgundy back plate to help them pop against the white table linens.

We absolutely LOVED all of our vendors, but one key person in pulling everything together was Stephanie, our wedding consultant.  Our wedding day was flawless because of her help, ideas, and support.  We can not thank her enough for keeping things running so smoothly!

In addition, our photographers, Mark and Candice from Mark Brooke Photography, were absolutely fabulous!  They take fun and funky images, and are incredibly easy to work with. They did an amazing job making us and our day look flawless.

MUSIC
Our music was of course a key factor.  We had a fantastic DJ, Richard Blade, who also served as our MC.  Together, we made sure the dance floor was full throughout the evening!

ADVICE
The one piece of advise that I have to give to brides planning their wedding, is to find ways to incorporate little things that reflect you as a couple.  Personalizing your wedding is what will make you and your guests really remember your special day.  Don’t feel like you have to follow any particular set of rules.  Just do what feels right to you, and remember to have fun!

Chris & Margaret have known each other since swim class when they were eight years old! They are a wonderful laid back couple. So, when it came to their wedding day, they enjoyed letting the day just “happen”. 

The Tehama Golf Club is a pretty special place. The club house sits on a mountain top and is surounded by breathtaking views of the course and the surrounding countryside.
