I’ve heard talk that in the South, they really know how to throw one fine soiree. Well let me tell you, after glancing at this wedding for a mere moment, I knew that statement must be true. With the help of some truly gorgeous styling by Calder Clark Designs and perfect picture taking by Tina Rowden, this Charleston Bride and Groom had an elegant, classic wedding infused with so many great modern touches. Mary Margaret and Ryan Neff were married on a soft summer Saturday in June at the DeBordieu Club in Georgetown, SC, where Mary Margaret spent summers growing up. Both hailing from their adopted hometown of the Big Apple meant that they were inspired by the sleek, translucent, contemporary feel of high profile hotels but wanted their aesthetic to mesh with the Lowcountry, too. Mary Margaret tapped Calder Clark of Calder Clark Designs to implement her big day dreams. The couple were married at the gorgeous historic Prince George Winyah Episcopal, just moments from their pretty tented affair. Mary Margaret and her girls carried bouquets of athuriums, longiflorum, steelgrass, bamboo, ornithogalum, cattelya orchids and sweet gumballs, all flowers that would appear as well during dinner. During cocktails, Tina Rowden (photographer) strolled with the couple throughout rice marsh-lined pathways capturing the sunset,while guests dined on mini lobster rolls, mini blts, mac-n-cheese bites, and endive with Boursin.

Guests approached a lucite table flooded with engraved lucite escort cards clipped into sleek chrome stands. For dinner, Calder Clark and Mary Margaret designed a family-style menu of iceberg wedge and chilled heirloom tomato bisque, Lowcountry Shrimp and Grits with Chorizo Gravy, Veal Piccatta atop Fried Spinach, and Cavatelli with Roasted Spring Vegetables and Truffle Oil. The entrees were placed onto custom Lucite boxes filled with anthurium, so the “centerpieces” doubled as plateaus for the dinner. In lieu of wedding cake, the couple asked Calder Clark to design a dessert bar fit for royalty. Pulling Mary Margaret’s favorites from several different bakeries, Clark selected a vast array of all-white desserts to create a monochromatic dessert bar on a vintage baroque white lacquered mirror. The party lasted into the night and was topped off with a clubby after-party inside the main house, where guests feasted on late night passes of tiny truffled grilled cheeses, handcut french fries, and milkshake shooters.

Favorite Weddings of 2009 VII

There is a good chance this next wedding was one of your favorites of 2009 too… these gorgeous images by A Bryan Photo graced the pages of Martha Stewart Weddings this fall so it’s no surprise that we’re bringing it back to share with you before we head into 2010.

When Abby asked us to choose a favorite wedding to be featured on SMP I was pleased as punch and after scouring my internet archives and bookmarked websites and events, I knew I had to pick Caroline and Keating’s wedding. Featured on Martha Stewart Weddings online and the fall issue of their magazine, this wedding is everything I love, it’s elegant without being stuffy and it’s full of family and sweet southern charm!

Caroline and Keating were married Thanksgiving weekend 2008 in Charleston, SC and their gratitude for each other and their friends and family was evident in all the little details. The color scheme was navy and white, so preppy, and a classic combination that really transcends any season.

Caroline’s gorgeous bridesmaids were dressed in white frocks from Thread, making for a stunning wedding party, in a color usually reserved only for the bride. But my hands down favorite, swoon-worthy thing about this wedding is the setting and the lighting–yes the lighting. Married at a historic 18th century estate, every venue was bathed in romantic candlelight using votives, lanterns and lovely chandeliers adorned with magnolias and greenery. Calder Clark at Blue Moon Events created a Thanksgiving wedding that was truly intimate and made every one feel at home, no matter where they were from.

Stunning Southern Affair by Calder Clark Designs, II

I am la-la-loving today’s first featured affair. Actually, I love anything that Calder Clark of Calder Clark Designs in Charleston does and when you pair that up with the genius that is A Bryan Photo…the result is TOTAL perfection!

I actually had the pure pleasure of meeting Calder when I was in Charleston for a wedding and when I tell you that she is talented, I am hardly doing her justice. At the time, they were preparing a dessert bar for an upcoming wedding and it just might have been the prettiest thing you’ve ever seen. Plus, she gave us a cookie for the ride home, which was icing on the cake.

Anyway, back to the wedding at hand! Here are a few more details…

We designed heavy “garden garlands” to drape over the old brick columns of the carriage house lot and filled them with smilax, phalaenopsis orchids, and magnolia leaves to accent the existing evergreen landscaping at the period property.

Hung from old carriage house doors was a 50 inch wreath of the same, and creamy rose petals covered the slate aisle. We designed a few standout trees adorned with viburnum, hydrangea, smilax, and garden roses planted in wheat grass and edged with ivory satin ribbon and accented with delicate glass hanging votives. We used seagrass furniture in the dance tent and sheered the ceiling and poles with soft taupe chiffon.

Stunning Southern Affair by Calder Clark Designs

We have one more absolutely lovely Southern wedding for you today by Calder Clark Designs in Charleston. But this one is even more special because it was photographed by one of our all time favorite photography studios, A Bryan Photo. This wedding is so incredibly chic…and yet it also has this air of warmth and intimacy that completely makes me happy.

Tina and Jim came to us with definite ideas on the style and feel that they wanted for their wedding. Tina was inspired by our local baker, Jim Smeal; she had seen a beautiful live oak tree cake that he had designed in the past and new immediately that we wanted him to design her cake, but to tweak it to be her own.

We chose a palette of punchy jasmine green and mocha, and used that throughout the wedding. Her dress was Kenneth Poole for Amsale purchased from Nitsa’s in Winston Salem. Her bouquet, designed by Blossoms Events, was a beautiful gathering of white peonies, cattleya orchids, and lilac and covered in a simple ivory silk satin ribbon with pearl pins.

Pretty, Traditional Southern Affair

Every now and then it’s nice to just sit back, kick up your heels and breathe in the beauty of a traditional Southern wedding. There is something so romantic, so utterly luxurious about Southern affairs…particularly those that the amazing Calder Clark at Calder Clark Designs gets her hands on.

Photographed by David Edwards, this wedding is all about the lovely. Simple, pretty flowers by Blossoms Events. Romantic lanterns. An undeniably beautiful bride. It’s all just so magical! Here are a few details from Calder…

Laura came to us loving the color of a pale sage green. We paired that with a soft orchid tone and ran with it. Laura’s bouquet was filled with pale pink and white peonies, dusty miller, geranium leaves, hypericum berries, and elyssum- and was carried with an antique handkerchief from her family. As guests entered for cocktails, we served “Turnertinis”- bellinis with a splash of lavender extract for an extra touch. The gates of the William Aiken were treated with pale sage chiffon and accented with a crystal chandelier.

The cake was inspired by her graphic design pieces from her stationery suite, and included handmade sugar magnolias to reflect the gorgeous centuries-old magnolia on the property. The white top tent was lit with a sage gobo leaf pattern on an orchid hue to punch up the drama.

Laura’s beautiful wedding dress was by Modern Trousseau.

I have to admit, I have spent the day with my head completely in the Style Circle…devouring all of the incredible blogs that you guys are writing. But this wedding brought me back to reality. Calder Clark is such a genius and we are so thrilled that she lets us show off her work on SMP.

Charleston Wedding From Calder Clark Designs

Today’s delightful wedding is from Charleston’s Calder Cark Designs. Alice and Jeff’s wedding celebration was planned around a few key elements … a cool French blue and crisp khaki color palette, natural and preserved boxwood fixtures and greenery, vintage crewelwork graphics and Charleston charm … of course!

SO many of our favorite weddings are in Charleston! Alice and Jeff’s spring wedding took place at the William Aiken House.

A “Mason Dixon Station” was set up … a signature drink consisting of local Firefly sweet tea vodka blended with lemonade and garnished with a lemon wheel and served in mason jars tied in whip-stitched French blue grosgrain ribbon. Mmmmmm … such a sweet touch! If you’re going to do a signature drink, this is the way to do it! FILL it with ice and you’re pretty much set for the day.

“Take A Wish ~ Make A Wish” stations were a huge hit!

There is something so romantic, so magical about a reception at night. The twinkle lights, the candles, the glow…it’s just so beautiful. Today’s wedding truly sparkled as the sun went down…

From the absolutely beautiful bride, Laura…

We chose the clear top tents to let the live oak trees and stars provide the backdrop. From there – we studded the roofline of the tent with wooden lanterns and candles illuminated the long Tuscan-style dinner tables. The centerpieces and cake design tied the rustic-elegant concept together entirely. Moving into the cocktail and dancing tent the massive antique mirror-fronted wooden bar and iron lanterns echoed the feeling of the dinner tent – while offering a new design element, providing the perfect atmosphere to dance the night away.

Blue Moon Events ALWAYS puts together incredible affairs, but there is something so warm, so inviting about this one. LOVE! There were also a handful of other vendors that made the entire day beautiful…

The amazing flowers were crafted by Tiger Lily Weddings. The catering was done by Patrick Properties and the ridiculously lovely invitations and accouterments were designed by Dulles Designs. The gorgeous cake was made by Elaine’s Events and the Band was the Pat Patrick Band. Great job everyone!
