There is only one word for Margaret and Yancy’s wedding reception…OBSESSED. The modern and yet whimsical centerpieces, the perfectly crafted menus, the cake, the flowers, the everything. It’s just perfection. Thank you so much to Margaret and Yancy for sharing their big day with us!

A fun little tidbit from Margaret…

We wanted useful favors, which the guests would use, and not throw away or let sit in the box for ages, and have it be also somewhat reflective of us. Since we lived in Indy for almost 2 years, I fell in love with Crate and Barrel so we gave each couple 4 stemless wine glasses [we love wine and these could be used for wine, water, juice, anything really] When visiting some friends in Indy, we bought out the store…and brought a car full over the border. We used the Crate and Barrel boxes, since they do look good, with a brown ribbon and a tag, thanking them for sharing in our day + a lovely quote about wine and friends.

Real Wedding: Margaret and Yancy, III

Today’s first real wedding must have been kismet. In my sleep deprived state (thanks to a teething baby), I totally forgot that it was St. Patrick’s Day! And for an Irish girl to forget about St. Patty’s, she better have a good excuse. Well, the Irish gods are shining because today’s gorgeous wedding is all about the green. The FABULOUS, fabulous green.

I have to admit, it was the reception that really sold me on featuring this affair. It literally made me throw my hands up in the air with a resounding “YES” that made my daughter jump, then look at me like I was a little crazy. But honestly, it’s weddings like this one…details like these…that make my job so much fun.

From the lovely bride, Margaret…

The reception was held at The Rosewater Room. The space itself has a beautiful entrance, huge windows which let in so much natural light, and in the evening the glow of the city. It was elegant, yet modern, urban yet warm, just perfect. I cannot say enough about this venue, and would book it again in a heartbeat. It was a bit of a splurge for us, but completely worth it.

The cake was done by Dufflet and, well to be honest…after three tastings…[just to be sure wink wink] we were certain that Dufflet was delish!

Margarite from Nice Stems was our florist. All I can say is AMAZING! We had an idea of what we wanted as far as centerpieces, but were open to suggestions, and once I told her what our venue was she began sketching and had me sold. She designed for us exactly what we wanted but could not describe. The floral designs were gorgeous, and affordable, when we mentioned a budget she did not go over it, and did as much as she could with what we had to work with. All of our guests loved the centerpieces, and Yancy and I could not have been more happy with her service and design skills. She is fantastic!

I love today’s featured wedding for two reasons…the first, is the gorgeous photography by one of our favorite Little Black Book members, 5ive15ifteen. The second is that the bride tended to the details with such a thoughtful energy, such an edited voice. She paid attention to the little things, those that she knew would really make for a lovely wedding style. Love that.

From Margaret…

The invitations were designed by me, myself and my husband! I have a background in photo + graphic design, and knew what I wanted, and once we settled on the colours, it was just a matter of sitting down and coming up with a design that was clean, elegant and romantic. We loved our invites, the final product turned out just fabulous. [if I do say so myself]

For paper we used Cards and Pockets that we shipped them to Canada, and it was still significantly cheaper than buying it from a place in the GTA. I also did the place cards, and the table numbers and menus for the table [Dollarama had awesome photo clips], as well as the tags for the favors.

The photography was done by 5ive15ifteen photo company. Boy was this a hard decision…not only was this one of the first things on my list, but this was the most nerve wracking decision to make. We were so happy with the service, and the work…I wanted a bare bones package, so basically the shooting, and high res digital negs, so they gave us a custom quote. This was a splurge, but we could not be happier with the way they were on the wedding day [Anthony + Marco – 2nd shooter], the way both Yancy and I could be so comfortable in front of the camera, and the way I could [almost] relax, trusting that Anthony and I were on the same page with what we wanted and what they were shooting.

Real Wedding: Margaret and Yancy

If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a hundred times…it’s all in the details. I am always on the hunt for weddings that capture the details to perfection so when I saw Margaret and Yancy’s ridiculously lovely reception, I swooned! Before we get to that though, here is a first look at the beautiful couple and their oh-so-pretty day!

From Margaret…

My name is Margaret Diotalevi, and my handsome husband is Yancy Diotalevi, our wedding took place this past August 30, 2008 in Toronto, Canada. It’s a little DYI, a little budget friendly [we splurged on some things, but were frugal with others] and a lot of modern + fresh!

Being a wedding photographer…I surely thought I would be bridezilla extraordinaire…but to my surprise, I enjoyed planning the wedding so much…and Yancy was a huge help, which took so much of the stress off. We had a blast with the planning and the details, and an even better time during the day…it was so much more than we expected, and we were so pleased that the day was what we wanted…great friends and family, fabulous food + drink, and lots of laughs and dancing. If I could I would have a celebration like this yearly!

Wedding Cakes by Papillon

As I was browsing around Chateau de Gateau’s new blog (which is lovely by the way), I discovered Papillon cakes…and they are delicious. Seriously, delicious…

Papillon is a Canadian based company that makes the most stunning wedding cakes you have ever seen. They are so detailed, so perfectly crafted…from the sleek and sophisticated to the romantic, almost french inspired. I have barely scratched the surface with the pictures above, so definitely check out Papillon cakes for some sweet inspiration!
