Modern Nautical Kiawah Island Resort Wedding

There’s something for everyone in this gem from Virgil Bunao. Greens for days for the golf-lovers, soft beaches and sweeping views of Kiawah Island, nautical touches atop the linens from BBJ, modern chevron detailing, a gatsby-esque cake, classic bits throughout and a rad dance party courtesy of East Coast Entertainment. All together, it works so beautifully and it comes as no surprise with Luke Wilson behind the planning. See the film from Life Stage Films and hit up the gallery for even more!

From Virgil Bunao Photography… Amy and Brian sought out South Carolina as their wedding destination and it was a no-brainer when they decided to select The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island as their backdrop. The views are amazing, the sea breeze is an added bonus, and feeling like you’re in total seclusion while you’re reciting your wedding vows in front of your loved ones is priceless. To pay homage to the beautiful surroundings, Amy and Brian chose to go with a fun, nautical theme of navy and fuchsia pink; with a soft white mix of hydrangea-and-rose centerpieces that balanced out the color choices. They carried this palette to their wedding party as the gentlemen looked dapper in blue and the ladies looked stunning in pink.

With the start of spring weddings right around the corner, there’s NO better time to feast our eyes on this Kiawah Island beauty. One part classic and another part prep, it’s everything a coastal love-fest should be thanks to RLE CharlestonStems Floral Design and Ashley Bakery. The ever-so-talented Gayle Brooker snapped up all the goodies, and you best believe it’s all waiting right here.

From the Bride… I have the most joyful memories of my wedding, and I wish I could go back and hold onto every moment for a little longer. Lucky for Patrick and me, Gayle Brooker captured all the special moments and details so beautifully in her photographs.

We hosted our wedding weekend on Kiawah Island, South Carolina. There is something about Kiawah with its Spanish moss-draped live oaks and palmetto trees, the marshes and the ocean that is simply enchanting. While we live in NYC, my parents live in The Carolinas, and Patrick and I love the charm and romance of the Lowcountry.

We also love golf, and we could not think of a better place to get married than on a golf course. It took one visit to Kiawah’s famous Ocean Course, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean with its gorgeous clubhouse and Ryder Cup Bar, for us to know that it was the perfect location for us to say “I Do!”

The night before the wedding, we invited guests to enjoy an oyster roast and barbeque along the banks of the Kiawah River. We had live music, lights strung from the trees, cornhole, a slideshow down memory lane, speeches, s’mores around a fire pit surrounded with rocking chairs, cobbler, flip cup (a favorite pastime from our college years), and most importantly a good time. It was a Lowcountry, Southern inspired affair, which was something we wanted to share with our guests (who were mostly from the Midwest, Northeast and California).

Then we had the Big Day!, which was so beautifully perfect. I envisioned our wedding to be classic, romantic and elegant, with a touch of preppy. I chose blue, pink, and gold as my colors and enjoyed using different shades throughout the wedding décor, attire and stationery. My wedding dress actually had a blush underlay beneath the lace. Peonies and hydrangeas, my favorite flowers, were used throughout the ceremony and reception. Table names at the reception were notable golf course, with our head table of course being the “Ocean Course.” The evening was filled with joy, laughter and romance. When it came time to party, the dance floor was full thanks to an amazing vocalist, Quiana Parler, and her band. The night ended with my husband and I being showered with lavender while making our grand exit on a golf cart with a “Just Married” sign. It was a magical whirlwind of a day that we are so thankful to have shared with our family and friends, and one we will always cherish.

There are so many details and logistics that go into planning a wedding, and we could never have made our dream a reality without our amazing wedding planner, Stacey Fraunfelter from RLE Charleston, and the fabulous vendors she recommended. Patrick and I are very fortunate to have worked with such a talented group of individuals.

Kiawah Island Wedding from Gayle Brooker Photography and Gathering Floral + Event Design

If there is one thing we know does well with you lot, it’s a neutral backdrop, letting a really big, gorgeous love take center stage. Whites, creams, beiges… we all go a little crazy over the beautiful whites, especially when they are perfectly textured with things like beautiful blooms from Gathering Floral + Event Design and a beyond gorgeous paper suite from Oscar & Emma. This wedding is sure to be a hit, because, as you can see, Gayle Brooker Photography captured a design worthy of the extremely beautiful love at the center. See it all right here.

Hart to Hart Media has taken this pretty party one step further with a trailer that is ridiculously perfect:

From the stunning bride… We held our wedding weekend in Charleston, South Carolina. Although we are New Yorkers through and through, we chose Charleston because it holds a special place in our hearts. We visited this beautiful city on our very first trip together. As the backdrop for my favorite film, The Notebook, the destination already had a point in its favor. But we were thrilled to discover, amidst the picture-perfect setting, Charleston also had the nightlife and culinary delights to rival our own New York City backyard. We were sold! Somewhere between the cobblestone streets and Zach’s third helping of tomato pie…we fell in love with each other and this incredible town.

We were married at The Sanctuary Hotel on Kiawah Island, a beachfront oasis just south of downtown Charleston. Our guests traveled to the wedding on vintage trolleys; they said they felt like they were being transported back in time as they took the scenic route out to Kiawah. Our ceremony and cocktail hour took place on the Grand Lawn. It was designed to feel like an old-fashioned lawn party with antique furniture, fresh shellfish and that perfect ocean breeze. We then retired to the Grand Oaks Ballroom for an unforgettable evening of cocktails, dinner and dancing. Our band was OUT-OF-THIS-WORLD amazing and kept our guests on the dance floor the entire night. It was truly incredible to have all of our favorite people in one room; dancing, laughing and making memories together. Our last song was “Time Of My Life” from Dirty Dancing (another one of my favorite movies). In true Ashley and Zach form, we attempted the famous run and lift and Zach (fortunately!) caught me and lifted me high above the dance floor. Hands-down my favorite moment from the wedding. It was movie-magical and ended things on a high note, literally.

I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect weekend in the most historically delightful part of our southeastern shoreline. We are so grateful to our friends, family and the exceptional team that worked so hard to make our fairy tale come true.
