Charleston is the sort of city just made for marrying. The kind of place where romance, tradition and whimsical details join forces with some of the cutest duos you will ever meet. Together, it’s a combination that makes for one crazy gorgeous party… and when it’s a breathtaking day like this one captured by Sean Money + Elizabeth Fay, it’s all kinds of amazing. From the Bride… We started hanging out as friends, then we became best friends, then realized “Hey I think I like you more than a friend!” I met Alex about five years ago up in Erie, PA. Being a Canadian native, and Alex from Louisville, KY, the chance of meeting was fate. We were both coaches at the University when we realized as friends that we had more in common and shared the same interests than we thought!
Throughout the years of us both coaching, I moved away to Asheville, NC where Alex soon followed eight months later. North Carolina was a familiar place for me because I went to school and played basketball at Campbell University in North Carolina. That is where we both absolutely fell in love with the Carolinas! Having already visited Charleston during my four years in college, I knew that one day I wanted to marry my best friend “under a moss tree!”
After the engagement on August 23, 2012, the plans for the dream wedding in Charleston began. Now living in Indianapolis, where my new coaching job brought us, we started to plan our wedding from across the country. With bridesmaids, from Canada, Sweden and the US, we were determined to make this the most special day of our lives.
I absolutely fell in love with Magnolia Plantation when I went to go venue shopping in September. The rustic feel, as well as the gardens were absolutely breathtaking. A couple weeks after the engagement the wedding destination and date was set, now came all the planning. Without the help from Lindsey Shanks at A Charleston Bride, none of this would have been possible. She is hands down the best wedding planner, as well as the most personal wedding planner ever, and she’s got great style.
Choosing colors wasn’t that hard for me, my favorite color is green, so I knew that one day it would be incorporated in my wedding. The groomsmen ties were hand made with vintage fabric, we found a cute little shop in Charleston that were selling them, so we knew that would definitely fit into our rustic theme. I love details and the little things more than all the glitz and glamour, and I felt I could get that with the vintage/rustic feel. Sean Money and Elizabeth Fay were amazing at capturing the little things, and that’s what meant the most to us.
The favorite part of the day for the both of us was having all our family and friends there all together at this gorgeous venue. It rained everyday leading up to the wedding, however on the wedding day the minute we stepped on the plantation it was nothing but sunshine, then the minute we got introduced as the new couple, and the doors closed, it poured down rain; it was absolutely perfect.
Charleston will always be a special place for both of us and we hope and pray that one day we will live down there with our family.
