Newport weddings make my heart sing. Newport weddings at the Newport Yachting Center with this amount of chic? They make me want to jump out from behind my desk and do a happy dance. It’s perfectly sweet with just the right amount of sophistication, making every image snapped up by Mikhail Glabets sitting in this gallery simply divine.

From the Bride…From the time we started planning our wedding together, Jay and I knew we wanted to get married in Newport (where we met, got engaged and now live together)! My husband is a photographer and so I left the final decision of hiring the photographer to him. We had many contenders but one day while perusing SMP we came across Mikhail. Once Jay talked to him and had a look at his portfolio we knew he was the right choice for us. Most of the other details fell pretty easily into place. Planning the wedding in the town where we live made it easy for us to meet with vendors and make choices pretty quickly. We decided to get married at Salve Regina University where Jay is currently getting his MBA. They have a beautiful Catholic chapel that could accommodate our wedding size perfectly. Jay’s childhood priest Father John Prusaitis was kind enough to make the trip down to RI to marry us. We were able to spend some time with Father John this summer during our wedding preparations. It gave him some time to get to know me and get reacquainted with Jay. Sharing our special day with Father John was an important part of our Wedding Day.

Planing our wedding was an emotional process for me especially, as my mom passed away from Breast Cancer in 2011 so I definitely missed having her by my side during this special time. Luckily, I had a wonderful maid of honor (my sister) and great bridesmaids to help along the way!

The most difficult decision for me to make was choosing wedding gown. While my mom was sick we made a point to watch “Say Yes to the Dress”, so that in a way we had a chance to look at gowns together. It was important to me to get an idea of what my mom would have liked to see me in on my wedding day. When it came time to choose my gown, I thought I wanted a traditional lace gown, but after trying many dresses on I ended up choosing a sparkly Lazaro fit and flair. This was definitely my mom’s influence as she loved sparkly things! Once I put the dress on I just knew it was my dress; my mom would have loved it.

I met Jay shortly after my mom passed away , so she never had a chance to meet him. I feel that she had a hand in us meeting, but I still wish she had a chance to get to know the man I will spend the rest of my life with. We incorporated my mom’s memory into many of the design aspects of our wedding. She loved hydrangeas, so our Florist Paul helped to build our vision incorporating hydrangeas into my bouquet, the center pieces and and all of the cocktail tables. I created our menu cards and ceremony programs as a DIY project including hydrangeas on the back of the program with a note honoring my mom. Jay and I also made our escort cards by hand; together. I ordered wooden anchors from Etsy and painted them all navy blue with silver writing, they doubled as Christmas Ornaments for guests to take home. We incorporated Jay’s talent for Photography by providing matted photographs of Newport as gifts for our guests at the end of the night. After all the preparations for the wedding, our weekend went flawlessly. It was a feeling like no other to have friends and family surround us with their love as we exchanged vows.

During the maid of honor speech my sister talked about many things she felt my mom passed on to us. My mom always loved traditions and my sister shared one from her husband’s side of the family that night. They have a hat that is brought to every wedding, the hat is passed around during the reception while people are dancing. There was a great picture of mom from my sister’s, sister in law’s wedding. She brought the hat to our wedding to continue the tradition and everyone had a blast passing the hat around the dance floor.

We took just under 10 months to plan the wedding of our dreams, and it went by in the blink of an eye. We now how have the rest of our lives to spend together making memories and traditions for our own family.
