Real Wedding by Duet Weddings, III

And now for the finishing touches on today's featured weddings....the details. As cliche as it sounds, and as many times as I have said it on SMP, it's the details that transform a pretty wedding into a spectacular wedding.

Real_wedding_by_leigh_miller_2

Here are some notes from Rebecca, the planner behind this gorgeous day...

Welcome - As guests entered the grass from the dusty gravel road, they were greeted with lavender garnished lemonade in mason jars. The property had a bunch of old paint chipped doors lying around, so we used those to make up the table tops anywhere we had an excuse to! The mason jars sat atop the wooden door (which was resting atop wine barrels) and we adorned the table with a scattering of bricks and an old crate tumbling with lemons.

Best Wishes - We used another old door table top to display Sarah and Mike's wish table. Beautiful apothecary jars were used for guests to write notes for Sarah and Mike to open on their one-year anniversary as well as for them to take a pre-written wish that Sarah and Mike had made for their guests.

Right this Way - As a way to encourage guests to move from the welcome lawn to ceremony, I strung along an old fence a long line of twine and small clothes pins featuring dozens of photos of Sarah and Mike as babies, childhood, up until photos of them together as adults. Even the embarrassing glamour shots and awkward teenage phase photos made their debuts - guests were delighted.

Escort Cards - Juniper provided gorgeous terra cotta pots planted with herbs and lambs ear. I had guest names calligraphed on wood (tongue depressors!) and stamped table numbers in a fresh moss green.

Get Cozy - Wood boxes and baskets held slippers and pashminas encouraging women guests to kick off their heels and get cozy. The weather turned cool almost immediately after the ceremony so this touch was totally appreciated.

The Bar - I had Sarah and Mike come up with a few signature drinks that would be special to them- something they shared on a romantic vacation, their first date, a funny story, etc. We created a large chalkboard menu for them listing their signature drinks with funny and sweet descriptions of each drink and how it came to be.

The incredibly personlized touches that Rebecca infused into this wedding are just perfect. The end results seems like this magical evening, filled with intimate touches and understated elegance. Thank you so much to Rebecca of Duet Weddings and to Leigh Miller Photography for sharing this gorgeous wedding iwth us!

Real Wedding by Duet Weddings, II

Now on to the reception...the rustic, oh-so elegant reception designed by Rebecca Stone at Duet Weddings and photographed by the incredibly talented Leigh Miller.

Real_wedding_by_leigh_miller_3

Here are some of the details that Rebecca infused into this stunning affair...

Dinner was held inside the barn which was revealed for the first time as cocktail hour ended and the heavy barn doors were slid open. The barn cast this incredible glow and warmth and holds this effortless elegance. Leigh's photos really show the gorgeous warmth that was felt inside with the incredible light and texture in her work.

Tables- We decided to do cluster arrangements of white and green flowers and foliage. We used tall cylindrical vases, large mason jars, and I created vases from paint cans which I affixed vintage garden labels to. Fluffy white anemones, sweet peas, peonies, and hydrangea as well as green viburnum, moss, herbs, and artichokes created an unstructured natural composition and the various containers created a collected feeling. For the table numbers, we used a large metal address number leaned against the vases.

Favors- Mike's family owns an almond ranch, so using these family almonds as a favor for guests was an incredibly sweet touch. The almonds were placed in a natural muslin bag which displayed Sarah and Mike's bee logo (used on their invitations as well as throughout the day in other labels, signs, napkins, etc.)

Stay tuned...we have so many more gorgeous details coming up!

Real Wedding by Duet Weddings

Okay, now it's time to see how those gorgeous inspiration boards, designed by Rebecca at Duet Weddings, came together into an incredibly lovely Real Wedding. First off, the couple and the ceremony!

Real_wedding_by_leigh_miller

The absolutely breathtaking photographs were taken by Leigh Miller...an extraordinary photographer out of Southern California. I love the rustic beauty behind each image...seemingly antique and yet completely timeless.

From Rebecca...

The ceremony was held in a cozy shaded pocket of the property behind the barn. Juniper Presence provided the stunning florals for the ceremony and executed on the vision beyond our wildest dreams. Jars and lanterns full of fluffy blooms and overgrown greenery hung from tree limbs and the wrought iron gazebo that stood at the altar. For the aisle treatment, I used jute rugs which created a soft natural path for the wedding party to walk down, as well as a clean contrast to the bright green grass.  The bride carried a loose, all peony bouquet wrapped in a rough packaging twine and the bridesmaids carried tulips and anemones wrapped loosely in twine as well.

Real Wedding by 5ive15ifteen, II

Okay, now for the black and whites from today's featured wedding. Each one of these photographs seem like they were taken right from the pages of a magazine...they are artistic and yet deeply intimate, fun and yet so romantic.

Real_wedding_by_5ive_2

Thank you so much, Anthony, for sharing these gorgeous images with us!

Real Wedding by 5ive15ifteen

When Anthony Manieri of 5ive15ifteen Photo Company sent me this next real wedding, I fell in love. It's SO Style Me Pretty...one part chic, one part personality. I love the gorgeous vibrant colors, the oh-so-chic wedding dress, and the slightly untraditional vibe of the affair...

Real_wedding_by_5ive

Although the detailed color shots are gorgeous, the black and white photographs from this wedding are beyond magazine-worthy. They are show stoppers. Stay tuned for the next set of photos!

Real Wedding by Casey Cunningham

Today I have an absolutely gorgeous wedding, shot by Andrea and Casey of Casey Cunningham Photography. It's a stylish, but smartly budgeted affair with a drop dead gorgeous (and oh-so-smiley) bride...

Real_wedding_by_casey_cunningham

First of all, I love that the bride and her maids seem so happy...their emotion seems to make the whole day shine a little brighter. Then there is the simplistic, but incredibly chic wedding style. Every element seems natural, not overdone or over-designed. When you are working on a budget, it is so important to approach your wedding from this standpoint. If you give sparkle to the details by keeping things elegant but simple...you really can't go wrong!

From Elizabeth, the bride...

Our wedding was very much a reflection of  both of our styles which is classic and simple.  Since the reception was to be outside during the best time of Spring, we really wanted to play on the great color of the yard, which was such a verdant green.  And, since my taste is very classic, I choose to go with all black and white, including bridemaid dresses which were black as well.  This way we would get that classic look we wanted without taking away from the beauty of nature.

My favorite touches were the topiary center pieces, which were also a huge money saver.  Our flowers were originally going to cost upwards of $4000 until I decided that topiaries would be much cheaper and I liked them even more and had always wanted to include them somehow.

Another great touch was the twinkle lights inside the tent and the black and white dance floor- together they looked like a wedding scene out of a movie!  We were so pleased with how it all turned out despite the rain!

But may favorite thing of all, besides marrying my dream man of course was my dress. I got it at the Gown Boutique of Charleston and literally ended up designing it almost all over compared to what the original dress looked like.  There was so much work to be done to make it look exactly like the vision I had of the perfect dress and they did everything phenomenally.

If I had one tip for brides it would be this...choose two or three things that are non-negotiable to spend the bulk of your money on. For us it was music- we had 3 different types during the ceremony (violinist, 2 bagpipes and a drummer, and a gospel chior) and a 9 piece chamber orchestra at the reception, food- Capital Grille catered, and tents.  Once those things are budgeted try to save everywhere else because there are so many unforeseen expenses that come up!

Real Wedding by Stella Alesi

Today is my last guest post over at Design*Sponge...what a great week it has been! Before we begin here on SMP, I wanted to just say a HUGE thank you to all of our Little Black Book members that sent me images and inspirations from their homes and their studios. It was so difficult deciding who would be featured on D*S as so many of them were absolute gems. The good news is, I am going to post a few more homes here on Style Me Pretty in the coming weeks though...so that we can really meet the people behind the brilliant art!

We are featuring three different designers today on D*S...Stella Alesi / Photography, Sugar Paper and Innove Events. If you haven't already, definitely head over and check out the gorgeous creative spaces of these oh-so-creative people.

Brian and Stella Alesi sent me this lovely wedding a few weeks ago and I have been waiting for the right time to post it...what better day than today!

Real_wedding_by_stella_alesi

Here are a few details from Brian...

This was a beautiful and unique wedding that didn't break the bank. Paul and Melissa got married in a city park in Austin, Texas. There is a lottery system in place for these outstanding, but budget venues and this couple was lucky enough to have been chosen. The wedding took place on a beautiful November day so it was early enough that the warm Austin weather was still hanging on.
The groom who is a landscape designer did all the flower arrangements, center pieces, door hangings, bouquets, etc. Paul's centerpieces were truly DIY. He used common fruits and cuttings from his backyard to create these amazing, but simple, works of art. One big table was set and the whole event had a communal feel to it.
The bride had her dress designed specifically for her. And the groom was looking dapper in a traditional english morning suit with tails and hat.

Real Wedding by Stephanie Cristalli

This week I have been guest blogging on Design*Sponge, which needless to say, has been a huge thrill for me. Just like the creative people that I am featuring over there, my interests are not only in what I do professionally. I simply love design...whether it's interior design, crafting, cooking, anything really. So, to have a chance to see how some of my favorite wedding professionals translate their own creative instincts...well, it's been pretty incredible.

Today, on both Design*Sponge and on Style Me Pretty, we are featuring the work and homes of photographers, Stephanie Cristalli and Chenin Boutwell, along with florist Catherine of Wiggy Flowers. All of these artists are talented from the tops of their head to the tips of their toes, thus it's been a joy to learn a little bit more about their creative aesthetic.

First up is Stephanie Cristalli, a Seattle-based photographer that I've long admired...

Real_wedding_by_stephanie_cristalli

I completely adore the color palette for this wedding. The contrasting raspberry, terra cotta and green is so beautiful...during the day the colors look fresh and lively, at night they look romantic and inviting. And although it's clear that so much time and energy went into the planning of this wedding, it seems cohesive and  relaxed. A backyard style ceremony and an intimate dinner with close friends and family. Can't beat that.

Head over to Design*Sponge today to check out Stephanie's GORGEOUS home.

Real Wedding by Red Ribbon Studio

Today on Design*Sponge, I featured some a-a-a-mazing homes and creative spaces, one of them being the gorgeous studio of Maribeth at Red Ribbon Studio. Maribeth basically transformed a sad, little retail space into the most gorgeous studio you have ever seen. It just goes to show that creativity doesn't stop with one craft...this girl is all talent!

Here is one of Maribeth's weddings that I am completely in love with...

Real_wedding_by_red_ribbon_studio

From Maribeth
...Kaija and John got married in her grandpa's backyard. Kaija wanted an upscale backyard barbeque, and that's exactly what it was. Guests sipped on a signature drink called a Bootlegger and snacked on passed treats like Minnesota State Fair cheese curds. A perfect summer day for a backyard wedding with great laid-back but elegant style.

Real Wedding by Yvette Roman, II

As promised, here are a few more pictures from the insanely gorgeous Yvette Roman photographed wedding. The design was done by none other than Lisa Vorce of Oh How Charming! so you know that it was basically perfection...

Real_wedding_by_yvette_roman

Vendors included: Photography by Yvette Roman Photography, Wedding Florals by R. Jack Balthazar, Event Design and Planning by Oh How Charming!, Wedding Gowns by Les Habitudes, Trash Couture, Paris, Location Saddlerock Ranch, Malibu, Caterering by Duxbury

Yvette has also offered to share some details from this stunning affair...

The Flowers...Ashley, the bride, is a floral designer at R. Jack Balthazar, and masterminded both the incredible floral arrangements, and the amazing midsummer nights’ dream design of her wedding. Both the bridal and bridesmaids bouquets featured Japanese fans, as did the men’s boutonnieres.

The Fashion...Ashley Wore Two Dresses ~ White For The Couple’s First Glance, And A Sea-Foam Trash Couture Dress, embellished with tiny chains, torn tulle, and polished stones, For The Ceremony And Reception

The Ceremony...The Ceremony Took Place Underneath A Willow Tree. The Bride Is Japanese-American, And The Groom Is Jewish thus, in order to acknowledge both traditions, a Chuppah was decorated with strings of orchids and 1001 Origami Cranes, which Ashley’s mother made by hand. The Ceremony was performed by a Buddhist priest and the music was provided by friends of the couple.

The Reception...The tables were decorated with an eclectic collection of heirloom sterling silver pieces, moss, roses, fresh fruit, and hundreds of white taper candles, which were allowed to drip onto the tables. Two classically elegant Raj tents, lit by crystal chandeliers, were erected. One for adult guests to linger under and another for the many childdren at the wedding to play. The children's tent was appointed with a vintage dress-up trunk containing masks and clothes and a large low table for art supplies and face painting.

Real Wedding by Yvette Roman

Over on Design*Sponge today, I am featuring the homes and creative spaces of some of my favorite photographers. So, I thought that it would be a fun opportunity to show a bit of their work here on Style Me Pretty, as well. Our first featured photographer is one that I not only admire professionally, but one that I really consider a friend...Yvette Roman, a California based photographer who often shoots some of the most beautiful weddings you've ever seen.

This first wedding is straight out of a movie. The bridal portraits alone are beautiful enough to hang on the walls of your home...

Real_wedding_by_yvette_roman_1

The bride actually wore two gowns...a "first look" dress that she could wear to capture these spectacular images, then a second dress for the ceremony and reception....

Real_wedding_by_yvette_roman_2

I have more photos coming from the actual wedding, so stay tuned. In the meantime, check over at Design*Sponge to learn a little more about Yvette and see the gorgeous home that she has designed for her family.

Also, don't forget to submit your entry in our incredible giveaway with Four Seasons Films...the prize is worth over $10,000 so it's definitely worth it!

Real Wedding by Perez Photography

I think that this next real wedding is so incredibly charming, so incredibly chic, I just had to share it with you! The wedding was sent to me by Cesar + Tanya Perez of Perez Photography, who summed it up like this...

"Jana + Kurt were married this past weekend in Burleson, Texas a town a little bit outside of Fort Worth at Kurt's family home. Their wedding was soooo amazing and was more than we ever expected. Cowboy chic all the way! They are two of the sweetest people we have ever met and we were completely humbled and honored to have been there with them. No words could ever describe the AMAZINGNESS of this wedding. :) Here are a few of our favorites..."

Real_wedding_by_perez_photography

Aside from the fact that this wedding makes me so homesick for my Texas roots, it also brings a huge smile to my face. The gorgeous color palette, the feather accents, the whimsical touches...it's just what a wedding should be. Thank you so much to Perez Photography for sending this our way! You can check out their blog for a few more photos from this wedding, along with other great images and inspirations!

Real Wedding by Cameron Clark

This wedding that was sent to me by Little Black Book photographer Cameron Clark is just too charming for words. The bride and groom designed the affair around a vintage travel theme, complete with handmade paper airplanes as seating cards, vintage style invitations, a trunk to hold presents, vintage style wedding dress and stamps from around the world on the tables. Each table card featured a different famous hotel of the world, all handmade by the bride.

Just as Cameron said in her email, "You can tell the bride put her heart and soul into making this wedding theme come together. It was gorgeous..."

Real_wedding_by_cameron_clark

The wedding took place in Sedona, Arizona at L'Auberge de Sedona, with a creekside ceremony and reception. Events by Show Stoppers designed the gorgeous flowers. I am hoping that the bride will stop by a little later to share more of the details!

Thanks so much to Cameron Clark for sending us this lovely wedding!

Wedding Photography by Elizabeth Messina

Okay, we're on to Paris for the rest of the day. And when I say that I love this wedding, I mean I LOVE this wedding. It's the perfect combination of rustic charm and unabashed elegance...

Real_wedding_in_france_by_elizabe_2

This wedding was all about beauty and simplicity, designed by the forever inspirational Lisa Vorce of Oh How Charming! Lisa let the natural surroundings dictate the style of the day, something that everyone should do. When you approach a wedding this way, whether you are having it in your own backyard or in a city ballroom, your wedding style will seem seamless and completely approachable. And together, Elizabeth and Lisa managed to capture that approachability to perfection...

Real_wedding_in_france_by_elizabe_3

Thank you so much to Elizabeth Messina for sending me these beautiful images. Elizabeth's weddings are always incredible...fairy tales, really. And no matter what your budget, it's easy to find inspiration through her photographs. And to Lisa at Oh How Charming!, for providing constant surprise and delight in everything that she does.

Wedding Photography by Elizabeth Messina

This weekend, a handful of my best girlfriends are heading to Anguilla to celebrate my dear friend, Lyndsay's wedding. I am so insanely jealous that I couldn't make this trip, you have no idea. From what I hear, her wedding is going to be one of those amazing beachside weddings where you get to dance to a calypso band while sipping fruity cocktails and chowing down on coconut shrimp. Again, I am so jealous.

So, I thought that the next best thing would be to write about a few paradise inspired weddings today, all shot by the incredible Elizabeth Messina. This first one was celebrated in San Miguel De Allende, Mexico...

Real_wedding_in_mexico_by_elizabeth

Yep, I so wish I was there. Stay tuned though, I have another wedding coming from a different part of the world...a different part of paradise.

Real Wedding by Lisa Lefkowitz

I have a few more pictures from today's blissfully perfect wedding, photographed by Lisa Lefkowitz, that I wanted to share with you...

Real_wedding_by_lisa_lefkowitz_2

It seems like every detail was thought about, meticulously crafted and executed to perfection. The lovely petifores, the delicate cherry blossoms, the petite flags that give guests a glimpse into the personalities of the bride and groom. I know that Gloria handmade so many of these thoughtful touches, which is pretty incredible.

I have a few more really lovely detail shots, as well as a list of the vendors that they used to come, so stay tuned!

Real Wedding by Lisa Lefkowitz

I have been saving this wedding for a day where I could focus solely on the beauty of the affair...on a day where we had no business to take care of, no other scheduled postings. A day where we could just soak up this lovely wedding and find inspiration in all of it's gorgeous detail...

Real_wedding_by_lisa_lefkowitz

This wedding was sent to me by the incredibly talented Lisa Lefkowitz, whose work I have always admired. She has been sweet enough to share some of the details with us...

Gloria, the beautiful bride, was inspired by the simplicity of Asian aesthetics, along with the opulence of French culture. She looked to the 1920s for inspiration on how to blend the two styles.

Tables held one of three different centerpieces that included peonies, mock orange flowers, and branches. Kind of a tailored garden look. Gloria made the favor boxes, which held cookies frosted with images of dragons and rabbits (their respective Chinese zodiac years). Her love of cherry blossoms appeared on the cake, as well as the invitations, favor boxes and ceremony candles.
For her ceremony aisle, Gloria screenprinted the cherry blossom motif onto washi paper, then wrapped it around glass vases holding floating candles. The array of pastries, including madeleines, was shipped in from France.

What an incredible combination of do-it-yourself projects and completely decadent touches. I have so many more images to share with you from this wedding, so definitely stay tuned!

Real Wedding Follow-Up

Last week we featured an absolutely awesome real wedding, shot by Jessamyn Harris. Since I had such a positive response from the wedding, I wanted to post a few more details AND a note from the bride about her inspirations and ideas!

If you missed the original posts, you can check them out here and here!

Jessamyn_harris

From Alex Cohen, the oh-so-creative bride...

I know how hard it is coming up with ideas for your wedding... so please feel free to steal mine! I consider imitation a high form of flattery!

THE SHOES -- short answer, David's Bridal and dyed by a local shoemaker... the longer story is that my husband bought his suit at a vintage store in Austin, Texas. Once I saw the cool blue color, I knew it had to be a big part in the wedding... I bought a pair of dyeable satin shoes at David's Bridal and took them to my local shoemaker with a swatch of my husband's suit to match and voila!!
One note there, the shoe dye smelled AWFUL and I had it done at the last minute. I recommend having it done way in advance so you have a chance to air your shoes out...

My husband's shoes came from John Fluevog. Fluevog's are pricey, but super comfortable, last forever and have great design. They also have a fun line of women's bridal shoes.

THE SITE -- My husband and I met in San Francisco, lived there, LA and Austin. We had family and friends ALL over the country and we had a really hard time finding the perfect place. I looked at a bunch of sites, but the second that I showed up at the Villagio, I knew it was the right place. I loved that we could have the ceremony and dinner outside and then a cool indoor space (their Barrel Room) for dancing, etc. It wasn't cheap, but totally worth it. The staff there was super friendly and no matter what weird request I had ("Ummmmm.... how do you guys feel about a bouncy house?? roller skaters?"), they were totally cool with it.

THE INVITES -- I am very lucky in that I have some incredibly talented friends.... one of my best ones is Aerin Wilson, who also happens to be a fantastic designer. Aerin knew my priorities -- I wanted to spend our budget on food and entertainment, not on invitations that people likely would wind up recycling anyway... So, she craftily came up with an idea to do a series of postcards. There was one for the invite part, another with a map to the site and the third was a RSVP card. There's a company called 4 x 6 that did a great job printing these. We also used PhotoStamps to create personalized stamps to go on the invitation and RSVP card. For our graphics, we used work from a guy who's artwork we really like -- it's fun, retro-style stuff and he has kits for sale for just $32 to make invitations.

THE TABLE CARDS: My husband and I are both big vintage car fans.... so I thought it would be fun to name our tables after various old cars... I went on ebay and got a bunch of fender scripts -- those are the metal pieces you find on the sides of cars that say what they are like "Dodge Dart" or "Chrysler" and we used those in our centerpieces to identify the tables. We put the name cards on old hub caps that came off our cars.

THE CHEESE CAKE: This idea I totally ripped off from ReadyMade magazine's bridal issue, if memory serves. The idea is simple -- get three different rounds of cheese and stack them on top of each other and decorate with flowers, fruit, etc. We did ours with Marechal (a really yummy, super sharp and stinky cheese), Drunken Goat.... and I honestly can't remember the third! For good recommendations on cheese, try the wonderful folks at the Cheese Store of Silverlake.

THE BOUNCY HOUSE: I have been a huge fan of inflatable bouncy houses for years... and my husband and I would always rent one when we had parties at our house. They are usually pretty inexpensive and provide lots of fun entertainment for both kids and adults. To find a local rental, I recommend Party Pop.

USHERETTES: I have done roller derby for the past four years and it's a big part of my life. So I asked my derby friends to be the wedding at my ushers. In fact, that's part of how I knew that the Villagio was the perfect site for me -- it had a great long flat walkway for them to skate down!!

THE BAND: As mentioned, we're lucky to have very talented friends... one of them is named Lori Carsillo. She's a fantastic singer and is in a band called Project Pimento. They play lots of great cocktail-y versions of old standards and they have an upright bass and a theremin (two of my favorite instruments!).

THE FAVORS: My husband and I had LONG debates over what we would give people as favors.... At last we settled on something that people could remember us and the day by and is environmentally friendly: the tree in a box. Also, as a little sweet extra, we set up a candy bar with jars filled with retro candy. We decorated the table with some toy models of Edsel cars.

THE PHOTOS: We were VERY lucky to have found Jessamyn Harris. She is a fantastic photographer and a really awesome person, too. She is very laid back and made everyone around her feel super comfortable. One of the reasons we picked her is because of her self portrait booths -- which I thought was a great idea!

THE DOGS: We have two great dogs, Buddy and Bosco, and they are our best pals. We wanted to include them in the ceremony and despite my hubby's protests, I wanted to dress them in style. I found some great attire at WOOF Dog Boutique. They had adorable little jackets and ties that velcro for easy attachment and removal. And as Diane, the store owner, proudly exclaimed "They can pee WHILE they're wearing it without messing it up!!" We accentuated with some classy black leather leashes and black leather collars that had light blue embroidered bones on it. I surprised my husband with the outfits, and he loved them! Even the dogs seemed pretty excited about getting swanky...

Thank you so much to Alex for sharing all of these brilliant details with us! You have such a talent for creating a fun, personality filled affair while still holding on to a sense of tradition and elegance.

Today's brilliant featured wedding was photographed by one of my favorite photographers, Jessamyn Harris, and I wanted to really encourage you to check out her website. It's filled with unique and interested wedding shots, many of which will inspire you to no end...

Thank you so much Jessamyn for sharing all of these lovely images with us!! We can't wait to see your next wedding!

Here are a few more photos from today's featured wedding shot by Jessamyn Harris...

Wedding_photography_by_jessamyn_h_2
I have to say, this is one of the best weddings that I have seen lately...it's so very important for couples to infuse their wedding with their own unique personality and perspective. This wedding does just that...and with style and elegance to boot. I love the juxtaposition of the traditional, elegant elements with the edgy, spirited details.

Real Wedding by Jessamyn Harris

One of my favorite photographers, Jessamyn Harris, sent me this wedding a few days ago...needless to say, I went completely nuts. This is the perfect example of a fun loving couple, infusing their personalities into otherwise elegant affair. The end result is a wedding that screams fun and yet is still oh-so-chic...

Wedding_photography_by_jessamyn_har

Event Design was done by the lovely and talented Alicia at Alicia K Designs

The wedding was held in August in Yountville (Napa Valley, California). The couple wanted something elegant but really fun. Thus, the wedding and reception took place at an absolutely beautiful, modern estate while whimsical details were incorporated into the overall style.

The men wore vintage suites and ties, the dogs were the ring bearers. They had a vintage candy dessert bar, a towering cupcake tree and  a "cheese" cake with imported rounds of cheese stacked on top of each other and decorated with flowers. The bride's former roller-derby teammates served as usherettes (amazing idea), they had a bouncing castle during the reception and a band that played all kinds of fun, swing songs. They had vintage car themed table settings and a self portrait set-up for the guests.

Bottom line? THIS is a wedding that I would love to have attended. I have more fun pics on the way so stay tuned!!

Wedding Photography by Andreas

For as long as I can remember, I have loved classic black and white wedding photography. There is something so timeless, so sophisticated about the perfect black and white shot...many times, it's the black and whites that convey the pure emotion of the day. They are dreamy and romantic in that chic and artistic way.

Lucky for us, one of my favorite Little Black Book members and Toronto based photographer, Andreas, specializes in those perfect black and white images that we love so much...

Wedding_photography_by_andreas

Before I comment on the stunning images, I should tell you all how much I am in LOVE with that wedding gown...custom made for the bride by Ines Di Santo herself. This wedding took place in Toronto at Graydon Hall and what really made it special was the unique connection between the families...hers a large Jamaican family, his a small French family. Huge cultural difference and yet a strong emotional connection.

And get this...the first dance was sung by none other than the lead singer of the Philosopher Kings, Gerald Eaton - the brides uncle!

Thank you so much, Andreas for sharing these gorgeous images with us. I am absolutely in love with the picture that you captured through the window of the couple dancing. Incredibly touching. Check out the Andreas Photography site when you have a minute for tons of beautiful inspiration!

Over the last five or so years, I have seen so many different styles of weddings...black tie dock-side ceremonies, champagne and chocolate affairs in contemporary art museums, barns decked out with crystal chandeliers. There are so many different types of couples out there, planning so many different types of weddings. It makes my job that much more interesting and that much more exciting.

To me, wedding photography should reflect the unique style of your wedding. When Teresa, one of our loyal readers and owner of Tempting Weddings, sent me a link to Todd Johnson Photography, I completely devoured his work. It is incredibly artistic and innovative, with photographs that are edgy and smart, perfect for a bride that is looking for something completely distinctive...

Wedding Photography by Bella Rose

I wanted to share a few more pictures of the gorgeous Southern wedding that we featured earlier today...

Bella_rosa_photography_2

Lisa, of Bella Rose Photography, has been sweet enough to share some of the details that went into this beautiful event...

"The wedding of Amy and Angelo took place at Orton Plantation (www.ortongardens.com).  The property is such an amazing example of Southern beauty, it is often used as a location of movies and television shows. The entrance of the property is lined with huge live oak trees. It is an incredible site. The trees are hundreds of years old. Their graceful branches cascade over head and are draped in spanish moss. It was a gorgeous wedding from start to finish. The bride is a fashion designer and she currently has her own line of designer jeans. Her clothes are sold in stores like Nordstrom, Bergdorf Goodman and many speciality designer stores across the country. Amy envisioned a wedding with an elegant 'Great Gatsby' theme with a 2007 flair.  Every detail was perfect and well thought through- even down to the unique collection of stamps that decoratively adorned each invitation. The wedding ceremony took place in Luola's Chapel on Orton Plantation. The  quaint white church created an intimate setting.  Violins, cellos and violas played as the doors opened as the bride, dressed in a Vera Wang gown, walked down the aisle. The highlight of the day was when the bride and groom were whisked away in a horse drawn carriage.

The reception, just steps away from the chapel,  was set under a beautifully draped tent with three chandeliers. Long rows of formally set tables were lined with hydrangeas in hundreds of silver tulip vases. Guests enjoyed live entertainment and each others' company in lovely wicker furniture accented by lanterns hanging from the grand oak trees. The cake was a lovely egg shell blue color with and intricate white design, made to look like vintage Lenox china. The party really got going when Angelo, Amy and friends danced to traditional Greek music to celebrate Angelo's culture."

I am totally in love with this wedding. It just screams beauty to me...in such a sweet and romantic way. Thank you so much to the bride and groom, and of course to the ever-so-talented Lisa  Brown of Bella Rose Photography. And, definitely check out Amy's (the bride's) SUPER cute collection of denim wear!!

How beautiful is this sweet, Southern wedding, shot by Bella Rose Photography...

Bella_rosa_photography

I have to say, there is something utterly romantic about a classic Southern Wedding. I think that it's the perfect blend of tradition and beauty that creates a sense of warmth and approachability, while still letting guests know that they are attending a truly special evening. This wedding in particular, is stunning. The vintage touches add a sense of tradition, while the hanging lanterns, the classic china patterned cake, the beautiful florals...add a touch of romance.

Thank you so m much to Lisa at Bella Rose Photography for sharing this gorgeous wedding with us! Check back a little later for more photos and all of the beautiful details from this Southern wedding!

Wedding Photography by Doug McGoldrick

I am absolutely smitten with these vintage inspired photographs shot by Little Black Book member, Doug McGoldrick...

Wedding_photography_by_doug

What a beautiful way to capture your wedding day...something that can be framed and admired as art. These images are so striking to me. They are elegant and timeless and yet still seem really intimate and touching. Almost as if we are looking into a family album, someone's treasured photographs of their daughter on her big day.

Doug is so incredibly talented and lucky for us, he's launched a blog of his own where he shares tips of the trade to interested readers...and honestly, this blog is jam packed with great tidbits and solid advice...

"Have you ever noticed that the majority of the weddings that get into the wedding magazines are on a beach or at a winery or in some grand old space? Ever wonder why? Well there are a couple reasons but one of the big ones is light, great natural light is a photographer’s best friend." --from Doug's Blog

Green Weddings by Grazier Photography

One of our Little Black Book members, Grazier Photography in Boston, is doing something so unique in the world of weddings...I just had to share it with you.

"Grazier Photography, a Boston-based husband and wife team, is ushering in the New Year with a Green Wedding Photography package. When their wedding clients choose this innovative package, 5% of the package price will be invested in carbon offset credits. Grazier Photography’s investment of approximately $400 per wedding will go a long way towards offsetting the carbon waste produced by an average wedding, even compensating for much of the guests’ air and car travel."

Boston_wedding_photography

The Graziers' profession is fairly eco-friendly to begin with: they work at home, shoot digital and work as paper-free as possible, and they are conscientious about recycling packaging and other materials. Since discovering Couture Books, a green wedding album company, the husband and wife team are now able to complete an eco-friendly wedding package. Couture books are made using 50% recycled content and in addition to supporting a handful of carefully chosen charities such as Oprah Winfrey’s School for Leadership, Habitat for Humanity, and the National Wildlife Federation, the company works hard to make their production process as carbon-neutral as possible.

From Matt and Enna... “ Our belief is that ‘reduce, reuse, and recycle’ is simply not enough… our ability to preserve the environment for generations to come depends on our willingness to reform our habits and ideas about consumption. We want to be leaders in our industry, and we’re constantly looking for ways to innovate our work, inspire others, and give back to our community.”

I have to say, I'm kind of in love with this duo. Their photographs are just so real. The work that this pair produces truly is...life at it's finest. Weddings at their most beautiful. Couples madly in love. They are the epitome of what a great photographs should be. Filled to the brim with emotion, so much so that a perfect stranger just might crack up laughing or perhaps even be brought to tears. If you need a daily dose of Grazier...check out their great blog!

To learn more about the Green Wedding Package, or for information about how to plan a green wedding, contact Matt and Enna Grazier at inf at grazierphotography dot com, or call them at 617-323-8718. Oh! And I forgot to mention that if you sign up for this particular package you receive a complimentary engagement session and a fun gift basket filled with green living and wedding planning goodies!

Wedding Photography by Casey Cunningham

When I was putting together this next real wedding board, shot by the oh-so-talented team at Casey Cunningham (featured in our Little Black Book), I was completely blown away. The original board featured detail shots...the invitation, the cake, etc. But the closer I looked, the more I realized that the true beauty of the photographs was in the emotion. The crystal clear, beautifully pure emotion that this bride and groom showed...

Casey_cunningham_photography

Shooting emotion in such an honest and straightforward way is really hard to do...and yet, Casey and Drea Cunningham go above and beyond. They capture the day with a sense of beauty, with a sense of sincerity, with a sense of playfulness. Their work is just lovely. Thank you so much for sharing these images with us!

And in the spirit of great photography, I wanted to mention a really fun contest that the also talented Emily Jackson is having. For one lucky couple, Emily will give away either a free wedding (complete wedding coverage with digital proofs on a disc) or a wedding album. To hear more about the contest (it's actually a really cute one), check out the details on Emily's blog. I really hope a SMP reader wins!!

Wedding Photography by Alternate Angles

Speaking of the brilliant photographers in our Little Black Book, Alternate Angles in Boston is one of the best. Here is a wedding that they shot this past September in Marion, Massachusetts...

Alternate_angles_photography

Owners, Tiffany and Laura, have been sweet enough to let us in on a few insider secrets...

"The groom is Greek and many many guests came directly from Greece for the wedding... they had traditional Greek dancers during the reception along with fireworks to top off the night.

Also, the bride and groom left the church in a vintage vehicle and about 2 minutes after leaving the car ran out of gas!  They has such a great sense of humor about it.  A neighbor ended up having a gas in a can and filled it up, while the couple waited nearby."

There is something so ethereal about this wedding...dreamy, almost like a fairytale. And in pouring over Alternate Angles' online portfolio, this feeling seems to grace all of their photographs. They shoot images that are completely magical. Thanks so much, ladies for sharing them with us!

Wedding Photography by Yvette Roman

Our Little Black Book seems to be filling up fast...and with such beautifully talented artists. Everyday, I go through the vendors, finding inspiration and ideas for this blog. I hope that it is becoming the same sort of resource for you. Whether you live in a particular city and are looking for the perfect photographer, or you are simply looking to find creative ideas and inspirations for your wedding...I am simply so proud of what the Little Black Book has become.

We have added TONS of new vendors and cities so if you haven't checked it out in a while and are in need of a little wedding pick-me-up, definitely spend some time pouring over the new work that we are featuring. One of my favorite vendors in the book, Yvette Roman, sent me these insanely beautiful pictures from two recent weddings that she shot...

Yvette_roman_photography

I am madly in love with this color palette...the rustic neutrals, paired with shots of pink and black. It is unexpected, but oh-so-sophisticated. This next wedding is equally as gorgeous, in that incredibly romantic, whimsical kind of way...

Yvette_roman_photography_2

What I really love about Yvette's work is that timeless sensibility that is so difficult to find. There is a romantic quality to every photograph she takes, whether it is a dreamy shot of a wedding cake or a black and white shot filled with all of the color in the world. Thank you so much Yvette for sharing these stunning photographs with us!

Black and White Wedding Photography

There is just something about black and white photography. Although I am usually partial to the brilliance of a beautiful, full color photo... when it comes to weddings, the black and white photography will make me tear up every time. It's timeless, it's romantic...it's sort of magical.

I am absolutely smitten with the work over at Artisan Events, a Little Black Book member and a studio that I have admired for years now...

Black_and_white_wedding_photography

You know that a photographer is pure talent when a black and white image conveys as much intensity and emotion as any photo you've ever seen. In these photos, you see sheer happiness, utter romance, playfulness and love...the makings of a work of art. Okay, maybe a bit cheesy, but it's true. These photographs just warm my heart!

Wedding Photography by Christine Taylor

I hope that everyone had a lovely weekend!

I was so thrilled to receive these absolutely gorgeous photos from Christine Taylor...they satisfy both my need for really beautiful things on a Monday morning AND our recent purple obsession...

Purple_inspired_wedding

This palette just blows me away...the hue of the purples, paired with the slight touches of red and gold...absolutely gorgeous. And, it seems appropriate for any fall or winter wedding, no matter how grand or intimate it might be. Thanks so much to Christine for helping me start our week off with a little flair!

Wedding Mementos by ScanCafe

Have you guys heard about ScanCafe? If you haven't, you really should spend some time checking out their brilliant new site. In a nutshell, ScanCafe will scan your hard photographs, slides and negatives, digitally archiving them on a dvd that you can enjoy for years and years to come...

Scancafe

(thanks Damon for the lovely photo collage made just for us!)

I have about a zillion pictures from my wedding that were taken by friends and family along the way...many of them a bit more personal and candid than those that were taken by my photographer. And yet, they are sitting in a box waiting patiently for me to put them into an album. Hmmm, probably not going to happen. ScanCafe is so perfect for me...the lazy girl's way to get organized. All you have to do is pack up your photos, send them to ScanCafe, then wait for the online proofs. You only have to pay for the photographs that you choose. Nice. Oprah thinks so...they were recently featured in her O Magazine Gift Guide!

I am thinking that this is perfect for the rehearsal dinner slideshow? The gifts to your bridesmaids or your parents (what is more personal than a look back at your favorite memories)? The options are endless.

Oh and, Damon said that they have successfully scanned over 3,000,000 images...so I'd say you can trust them with that picture of you and your hubby that you just can't bear to part with.

Wedding Photographs by Christian Oth

A few weeks ago, I drove to NY to do an on camera interview with Get Married TV on the Lifetime network. The piece was shot in none other than the studio of Christian Oth Photography...a photographer that I have admired for some time now. Aside from the fact that Christian and his colleagues were so kind, the studio itself was in a word...gorgeous. Some of the most spectacular photographs that I have ever seen adorned the walls...

Christian_oth_people

Every bride was spectacular. Every groom seemed blissfully happy. And the detail sho
