Romantic + Traditional Pittsburgh Steeler Wedding at Meadowood Napa Valley

Once upon a time there was a Pittsburg Steeler Groom who had one seriously chic wedding. Said wedding? Well, you’re about to bear witness. Captured by Julie Kay Kelly, this Meadowood Napa Valley celebration lands itself in touchdown territory. From the layered Sweet On Cake dessert, to the beauty a la It’s A Date At The Powder Room, you’ll want to watch every moment unfold in THE VAULT!

From Julie Kay KellyBonnie and David were only 15 years old when they met, and only narrowly escaped having to be driven by their parents to their first date. Fortunately, David had just turned 16 when he took Bonnie out for the first time – to the movies, and then to Wendy’s. Little did they know back then that David’s stellar football talent would take him all the way to the NFL (he’s a guard for the Pittsburgh Steelers), and that their love for each other would take them all the way down the aisle.

Their wedding this summer was a lovely mix between the simple, classic elegance Bonnie loves, and the easygoing nature that defines Bonnie and David. Hydrangeas, peonies, roses, lisianthus, and magnolia festooned the day, as did hand-lettered chalkboards and centerpieces of gold ceramic urns, mercury glass candlelight clusters, and antique metal champagne flutes and goblets.

Given the number of giant NFL players in attendance, specially sourced extra strong chairs and copious amounts of food were part of the day as well, followed by dessert including an amazing groom’s cake with different pieces of football gear from different stages in David’s career.

Their wedding weekend kicked off with an intimate evening of croquet on Meadowood’s croquet course, a perfect way to set the tone for this beautiful celebration.

I loved this weekend so much. Bonnie and David are true gems. David is predictably hulking, strong, and serious. He is also whip-smart, funny, and deeply kind. Bonnie is simply: beautiful. Inside and out. She is also hilariously irreverent. How these two complement one another is immediately evident and deeply touching. Between these two, their awesome wedding party, their friends and families, the celebration was unforgettable.

From The Bride…I always wanted to get married outside. I am not an outdoorsy person but I always loved the natural landscape and greenery in people’s wedding photos. I wanted it to be intimate and not too fancy. David and I are pretty laid back and love to just lie low and relax. We wanted the day to reflect how low key we are while still being elegant. I wanted it to feel like a dinner party atmosphere with an easy going vibe. I am very simple and classic when it comes to my taste. I just wanted it to be white and clean while letting the grounds be the perfect backdrop for our evening. I didn’t want to compete with how gorgeous Meadowood was.

My favorite moment of the day would be when we were cutting our cake. Mainly because I love cake and sweets. And because I we got to dance a little bit and sing to each other because we couldn’t find my Dad. Having that prolonged on accident ended up being one of my favorite moments. My favorite detail was my head table flowers. My mom surprised me and had Meredith do a hydrangea table runner! I was so excited. Originally we nixed it but my mom ended up bringing it back and it was such a wonderful and sweet surprise.

My flowers were gorgeous. White hydrangeas, garden roses and peonies. They were elegant and simple. Small clusters were at each table which made it much more of a dinner party vibe which I was going for. My gown was Vera Wang and was outrageously beautiful. I didn’t want to take it off all evening. I threatened to sleep in it but David said there wasn’t enough room for the three of us. It was one of the first gowns I tried on and I couldn’t get it out of my head. Our favors were boxes we left at each persons hotel room and were filled with goodies. The best part were these amazing cookies made by my brother’s friend’s mother. They are melt in your mouth delicious. We had two cakes. One traditional gorgeous wedding cake where each layer was a different flavor and a wonderful grooms cake with different pieces of football gear from different stages in Davids career. Each cake in his was a different flavor as well. But the top aka most important flavor was red velvet. My favorite flavor :)

For brides to be I would say enjoy the entire day. Things will go wrong but they end up being the most hilarious and memorable parts. Also, the videographer is totally worth it. Trust me.

Romantic Jewel Tone Inspired Wedding in Downtown Chicago

Most garden weddings are done in sweet pastels and light neutrals (which, I adore). But when I saw this Chicago couple’s rich jewel-tone color palette, I was taken aback by the berry-colored bouquets and sapphired-hued bridesmaids’ dresses. Combine that with this sweet couple, entertainment from Toast And Jam and photos from Emily Steffen for a perfect day. See it all in THE VAULT.

From Emily SteffenRebecca had a vision for a garden-esque, greenery inspired wedding in downtown Chicago and BOY did she pull it off perfectly, with the help of the amazing Ashley from Midwestern Bride! :) They tied the romantic and the classic together perfectly with a traditional ceremony at Assumption church and a garden-party, type reception at Galleria Marchetti! :) That night, every guest felt the romance and charm from the city as they celebrated amongst family and friends and toasted the new MR and MRS! :)

10 Pretty Things We Love About: Hello Tomorrow Films
With a penchant for capturing honest, intimate moments in their films, as well as an undying love for road trips and Disneyland, Maclean and Erin, the husband and wife duo behind Hello Tomorrow Films, aren’t just vendors I’d want at my Big Day — they’re people I’d want to be my friends. Get to know them below, then check out their blog for more!

How did you get into wedding film?

Mac has been into filmmaking all of his life, but began pursuing wedding films when his sister got married in 2006 and they hired a wedding cinematographer. That was the spark. Then he found he needed help so his amazing girlfriend Erin charged him a very reasonable rate for her assistance and we’ve worked together ever since. As we got more and more into it we were excited by the possibilities of narrative and storytelling, an area that others really hadn’t explored yet.

What’s your personal motto, or a phrase that inspires you creatively?

“Grow wise, grow strong, but never grow up.”

Can you describe your aesthetic in three words?

Honest, intimate, and cinematic.

What are three things you can’t live without?

Our iPhones, movies, and each other.

Where do you find inspiration?

We try to find inspiration in everything we do. Being with each other, family, friends, nature, films, photography, architecture, and of course travel.

What’s your favorite social media platform?

Instagram for sure.

What is a videography detail that often gets overlooked, that you wish got more attention in the planning process?

Sound. A lot of people forget that audio is half of the viewing experience. We often ask couples to try their best not to have their event near a busy road or airport or anything that can cause distracting noise. Sound is huge for us.

What do you think is the most important question a client can ask, when deciding who to hire for their wedding’s videographer?

We don’t think its so much a question they need to ask as a connection they need to have with the videographer. In that connection you can answer so many questions: Do you think they will be able to tell your story well? Does their work resonate with you? Do you identify well with them?

What’s been your proudest professional accomplishment as a videographer?

We’ve been fortunate enough to win accolades for our work, but we’re the most proud when couples trust and love us and our work so much that they make us a priority in their day and let us have complete creative control.

When you’re not working, what do you like to do for fun?

We love to travel and road trip together, spend time with friends and family, and of course, go to Disneyland as often as possible.

Romantic Lake Como Engagement Session

I’ve seen snippets of Lake Como’s beauty before but seeing these pics from Darya Kamalova of Thecablookfotolab brought my awe to a whole new level. Adding to Italy’s natural beauty, this handsome couple gave the region some serious competition, with the Bride-to-be’s red dress instantly added to my Pinterest style boards – see every amazing look in our VAULT right this way!

From Darya Kamalova of Thecablookfotolab… This engagement session leaves me speechless. The fire in the eyes of Kate and Artyom, the Lake Como view from the top of the mountain, the stunning burgundy maxi dress that was perfectly matching the bouquet and was a great bright spot on the yellow field background. Everything was so perfect that I wouldn’t change anything. We had fun taking the pictures in the movement, walking and running. Kate and Artyom were enjoying this last calm day before the crazy wedding day and it was amazing. I wish every couple could do this.

From the Bride-to-be… We shot this love-story a day prior to our wedding ceremony in the fields located in the mountains surrounding beautiful Lake Como. Planning this shoot I wanted something completely different from a wedding theme, I wanted to have a dark red dress instead of white wedding gown and a flower bouquet in colors similar to that dress. I didn’t want all the pastel colors which I’ve chosen for the wedding itself. And when I saw this dress on the Lulus website I immediately fell in love with it, there was only one size left and it was mine, like the dress was waiting for me. My fiance was wearing a white shirt and beige chinos. His look was casual but elegant at the same time. We were trying to find a perfect spot for the shoot in the mountains so that we would see the skyline with stunning Lake Como surrounded with the gorgeous mountains. We wanted to film our love together with this breathtaking view and fill the pictures with soft sunset light and fresh air. And although we were picturing fields covered with green grass at first, we fell absolutely in love with this one. It could not be better with the colors of the dress and my fiance’s outfit and it had all the views we wanted, that magic light and the air which played with the silk ribbons of my bouquet.

From Save The Date EventsNicole and Tyler wanted their wedding to have the feel of timeless elegance with a modern spin. The gorgeous grounds at Fox Chapel created a beautiful setting framed by large modern florals. Tall classic white florals adorned the tables with crisp modern grey linens and laser cut metal thank you notes at every place setting. The head table had a mix of romantic tall candles with low lush white florals to compliment a gorgeous sparkle runner. Nicole’s hair and makeup were naturally beautiful and allowed her gorgeous gown and shoes to be the star of the show. After dinner the guests moved to the ballroom where blue lights and modern white furniture transformed Fox Chapel into a modern club. Nicole changed into a custom made skirt and top so she could get down on the dance floor! The bride and groom had a choreographed break dance as their first dance and guests danced all night long. This wedding was the perfect marriage of timeless and modern!

Classic Country Club Winter Wedding

If ever in doubt, go classic; you will never be steered wrong. As time goes by, I keep coming back to these classics, the elegant affairs, because they never, ever disappoint. And this Augusta Country Club celebration, captured by Ashley Seawell, agrees with me completely. With a veil that I can’t stop staring at and a bouquet bursting with roses and peonies, our VAULT never looked so good – see it all right here!

From Ashley Seawell Photography… Jane and Adam invited their guests to celebrate in the bride’s hometown of Augusta. Their meaningful ceremony took place in her home church and a lovely reception followed at Augusta Country Club. Wesley Cadle transformed the club’s ballroom into a unique space. Orchids, peonies, hydrangeas and garden roses were used throughout the day. The color palette included dark blues, white and green which was perfect for this January wedding.

5 Tips For a Stress-Free Wedding Day Timeline

Making the decision to plan my own Big Day wasn’t an easy one. I may be a wedding blogger—but planning is a whole other realm. From vendor selection to style choices to timing, it’s easy as pie to fill your evenings with wedding-y things. I sooo wish I had known about Unveiled University, where the adorable details you’re about to feast your eyes on were created. Love & Light Photographs captured every bit, and they’re also letting us in on some back-pocket tips for creating a stress-free timeline!

From Love & Light Photographs… After the excitement of your engagement settles, you quickly realize that your new accessory doesn’t exactly come with a textbook on the subject! After reading countless magazine check lists, blog to-do lists, and fielding contradicting advice from family and friends, your head is left spinning and you are basically ready to elope.

This is why we have created a school specifically for throwing the biggest party of your life. You’ve got this! Unveiled University has curated the top local vendors to help you navigate everything from guest lists to decor, all while mingling with your classmates and teachers who have been freshman once before!

We know not everyone can grab a seat at our Asbury Park, NJ workshop this November, so here are 5 tips from one of our teachers Jessa of Love & Light Photographs to help your wedding day run as smoothly as possible…

5 Tips For Creating a Stress-Free Wedding Day Timeline

1. Have extra time than you think you need allotted to each part of your day. I would say 15 minutes at least! That way, if variables come up such as a family member is late or your buttons take longer to fasten than anticipated, everyone can breath a sigh of relief that you are still on schedule!

2. In the morning, have your details ready to go so your photographer can get straight to work! Sometimes it takes your team a good 30 minutes to get your wedding dress out of it’s wrappings and on your custom hanger – not to mention the 8 bridesmaid dresses! If you have a vision, help us get there faster so we can spend more time with you!

3. For family portraits, communicate to your family prior to your wedding day the starting time and where they need to be! Also, always tell them 15 minutes earlier than they actually need to be present. This allows for the tardy to actually be on time. Sometimes organizing a shuttle ensures that they arrive right on schedule instead of arriving in multiple vehicles.

4. A first look saves a lot of stress for couples and the family as a whole. You usually cannot have a traditional walk down the aisle first look AND they also enjoy their cocktail hour unless you have allotted time in between ceremony and cocktail hour. Family portraits, wedding party and portraits of the happy couple all have to happen within that hour if you opt out of the first look. Choosing a first look creates two hours of time to get all those formalities out of the way so you can enter cocktail hour with your photos complete and totally stress-free!

5. Hire a wedding coordinator. Why? They will keep your hair & makeup team on schedule. They will make sure your groom has his boutonniere for the first look. They will get your extended family on the shuttle and point them towards your family portrait location. They will tell your venue coordinator that your cinematographer and photographer have to leave at at a certain time so that cake cutting happens on time. She will hand out tips to your vendors throughout the day. No one else can do all of these things, and it will make such a difference on your stress levels! You will be blissfully unaware and dancing the night away without a care in the world.

Happy Planning! xx

Little Rock At-Home Engagement Session

If you’re looking for a few reasons to schedule an engagement shoot, look no further than this little gallery captured by Kati Mallory. Set at the couple’s Little Rock home, it’s the very definition of “sweet + simple” proving a no-fuss photo session is still every bit as special. Especially when there’s an adorable pup named Olive in the mix. More fun in THE VAULT.

From Kati Mallory Photo & DesignThe inspiration behind this engagement session was simple – to show off the easiness between Ashley & Malcolm. These two live in downtown Little Rock, an area that is undergoing great changes as it is experiencing a revival, and more and more people are choosing urban living. Ashley & Malcolm are no different, and love that their home is close to so many restaurants and their jobs! They share their home with their sweet puppy, Olive – a sweet and playful cavipoo who obviously adored being in front of the camera with her parents, and can’t wait for them to get married next year in Mexico, where Ashley’s family is from.

As soon as I walked into their bright and airy apartment, I fell in love with Ashley & Malcolm’s style – casual and light with some mid-mod touches thrown in. Everywhere I looked were the sweetest mementos, from a love poem written for them while on vacation, to a chalkboard that Ashley’s been working on to map their family trees. Photographing them was a walk in the park, and we quickly fell into an easy, laid-back afternoon of shooting.

After spending awhile inside, we decided to venture outside and into the beautiful weather! Because of the proximity of their home to our reviving downtown area, a golden parking lot seemed like the perfect fit for the end of the shoot! It was an absolutely perfect day.

From The Bride-to-be…Malcolm & I met in November 2013, when our mutual friend set us up. We started dating shortly after, and were inseparable from pretty early-on. There was a snow storm in the winter of 2013, and as luck would have it, Malcolm got stranded! He decided to stay with me for a few days, and just never left! I thank the snow and ice gods to this day!

We got engaged on a beautiful Saturday morning in June while hiking Petit Jean Mountain in Arkansas. Malcolm wanted to go on a hike with the pretext that we had never taken our puppy, Olive, hiking. However, I had other plans for the day! I had been wanting to buy a new toilet paper holder for our bathroom, since ours had broken. I finally agreed to go on the hike, but only on the condition that we went to Lowe’s for the toilet paper holder after! During the entire hike, I talked about nothing but that darn toilet paper holders. You can imagine my embarrassment when we stopped at a nearby pond and Malcolm turned around, reached into his pocket and got down on one knee! He told me that I was his best friend, and that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me – if I would have him. I said yes, OF COURSE, and then balled my eyes out. It was so awesome!

And then we went to Lowe’s…haha, just kidding! We went the next day.

Pastel Pumpkin Cookies to Take Your Halloween to the Next Level

When most people think of Halloween, they think of an array of orange and black. But here at SMP, we’re all about making things pretty, including Halloween. So we’re ditching the traditional color palette and heading towards pretty pastels thanks to these sweet treats from Bespoke Bride. Get the DIY below!

From Bespoke Bride Halloween is just around the corner & if you’re anything like me, then you’re getting super excited right about now! As you know we’ve never been ones to do things traditional around here so while Halloween may look like a mass of orange and black to some people, to us it’s still all pretty pastels and bright bold colors! Welcome in the holiday with a little sugar with this DIY from Deanna from Obsessive Cookie Designer

Pastel Pumpkin Cookies
prep time
15 Minute/s
cook time
9 Minute/s
total time
24 Minute/s
Serves 0Ingredients
  • 6 cups flour
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • 2 cups butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3 3/4 cups sifted confectioners sugar
  • 3 T meringue powder
  • 6 T warm water
  • Pumpkin shaped cookie cutter
  • Food coloring
  • Piping bag or bottle
Instructions
  1. Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs and vanilla. Mix dry ingredients and add to butter mixture. Mix well.
  2. Chill the dough in the fridge before rolling out.
  3. Roll to desired thickness and cut into your pumpkin shapes!
  4. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes or just until beginning to turn brown around the edges. (Tip: If you are having a problem with your cookies holding their shape, it helps a lot if you put them in the freezer on the baking sheet for about 15 minutes before you bake them.) Then leave to cool.
  5. Beat your powdered sugar, meringue powder & warm water for 4-5 minutes, until smooth.
  6. Separate into how many colors you would like and add your coloring gradually until you’re happy with the shade.
  7. From a piping bag or bottle, start piping pumpkin sections and allow each section to dry before you move onto the next. This will create the pumpkin lines.
  8. Finally, finish with a stem!

The second the leaves start turning, I take it upon myself to infuse pumpkin into every drink, dish and dessert imaginable. It might be a problem, but at least it’s a delicious one.
