A Love Story Told Through Song at Their Wedding

Early in their relationship, this couple identified a shared passion of theirs – music! Despite having different taste, many songs became important markers in their relationship, and they wanted their story told through song on their wedding day. The Devonshire Players and Around Town Live Music and Entertainment delivered on the couple’s wish, creating an unforgettable night captured by Elena Wolfe Photography.

From the Bride… Joe proposed on a hiking trail that runs past our new home in Ridgefield, Connecticut, just as it began to snow. He said that this was the place where we would begin our new life as a family together, and so began the year and a half of planning that led to our incredible wedding day.

Joe grew up in the Bronx, and I am from southwestern Connecticut. We wanted to have a traditional ceremony at my parent’s church in Bedford, New York, and to choose a venue where both our families could easily be present. By selecting Boscobel, we were able to marry my desire for a garden wedding with my husband’s desire for a water view – one of his few wedding requests!

The natural beauty of the house and surrounding gardens inspired us to focus on organic, unstructured floral arrangements and seasonal colors. I am an art teacher, so color and design are incredibly important to me. We stole our color scheme from the apple trees, roses, and grape vines on the property, incorporating greenery, neutrals, and blushes with rich merlot and fig hues. Our florist, Jeanette Kleitz of True Florette, immediately saw our vision, and we worked together to build upon this concept that she brought to life so beautifully.

Capturing this amazing day was also incredibly important to us, and we were so lucky to work with Elena Wolfe, who captured all of these gorgeous moments and details in digital and film photographs.

Early in our relationship, Joe and I found that music was a shared passion of ours, despite us having wildly different taste. What we listened to in the car on long drives became the soundtrack of our relationship, and we wanted to incorporate these important songs into our day. Between walking down the aisle to “that Mandy Moore song from A Walk To Remember” (“Only Hope”), dancing our first dance to Brad Paisley’s “Then,” and making sure that we heard everything from new country to classic rock, we wanted to tell our story through song. We had the pleasure of having the Devonshire Players and Around Town Entertainment provide live music during our cocktail hour and reception, and they knocked it out of the park. We barely left the dance floor once the reception began!

One recommendation I have for all couples on their big day is to take a few minutes to step away from the reception with your new spouse. One of the fondest memories I have from my wedding day was a quiet walk my husband and I took through the apple orchard at Boscobel. We were able to watch the party going on under the tent from afar and absorb all of the love and excitement that had been poured out to us all day long.

We could not have asked for a more beautiful day. The weather was absolute perfection, and we could not have been more excited to share this day with our family and friends. Watching the sun set on the water from our cocktail hour and tented reception was a dream realized. Hearing the heartfelt toasts from our siblings and seeing every person we love all together in the same room really made our day special.

Floral Design for All Seasons + Venues

The best floral designs are inspired by the season, embrace your personal aesthetic, and are complementary to your venue. Here the experts at Laura Jean Floral share ideas to discuss with your floral designer to create a composition for your wedding that’s unique to you while still embracing your chosen venue and the season. From foraging fresh greens to coordinating venue visits and from drawing inspiration from the linens to working with your venue’s gardener on choosing blooms, here’s the insider scoop on designing the best florals for all seasons and venues.

Photography: Meg Haley Photographs

Spring

If your wedding venue has a garden, consider connecting your floral designer with your venue’s coordinator and gardener. Your floral designer will then be able to determine the colors and flowers that are just starting to bloom in the gardens surrounding the venue property. Incorporating similar blossoms and colors into their compositions will carry that spring garden indoors.

Spring season brings new growth. Everything is so fresh, flowering, and green – there are plenty of options for foraging. Have your floral designer forage flowering branches, wild greens, or bulbs to utilize in their designs whenever possible. Here at Laura Jean Floral, we specifically look in areas close to the venue to find fields and forests to forage to create a more specific composition for the event. You can check out our Instagram (@laurajean_floral) for examples of incorporating foraged materials in arrangements!

Spring is also the perfect season to add a pop of accent color to your palette. Ask your floral designer to add a touch of color, drawing inspiration from a focal aspect of your venue’s design or logo.

Photography: Cambria Grace

Summer

Summer season and warm weather bring a lot of beautiful options to floral design. Everything is so lush and popping open this time of year. Most summer weddings take place outdoors, so the floral design should be an extension of that outdoor space. Incorporating locally foraged summer grasses, vines, and greenery can all help achieve that.

Consider infusing your floral arrangements with fruit from local farms or your caterer – peaches and citrus are always a favorite next to plush blossoms.

Tents are commonly utilized for summer weddings, and these areas are a perfect landscape for large scale floral installations and garlands. We love to drape tents in bright greens with pops of big, gorgeous focal flowers.

Photography: Nicole Baas

Fall

The Fall is a time of soft, natural lighting and rich, deep colors. During this season, many venues offer richer textures in their decor and linens. Show your chosen linens to your floral designer, as these colors and textures can influence your floral designer’s choice of vessels and vases.

Foraging during this season will reward you with the most amazing foliage, berries, and branches! Added elements from your venue site – including moss, ferns, and greenery – can be included in your tablescapes and other aspects of your floral design.

Photography: Fat Orange Cat Studio

Winter

Winter season brings everything indoors. This is the perfect season for sculptural florals, whether it’s taller arrangements in a space with vaulted ceilings or plush, elaborate garlands to accentuate a staircase, purposeful compositions that highlight the space are key. As floral designers, we are always considering the space and highly recommend visiting your venue with your floral designer prior to your wedding.

Also have your floral designer source specific vessels and vases that complement the architectural details of your venue. By considering the fixtures and framing within your venue when making this choice, you can bring a sense of intimacy to the event.

A Glamorous Destination Affair with Stunning Views of the Amalfi Coast

I’m pretty sure the most magical balcony in all of Italy can be found at Villa Cimbrone. With Amalfi Coast views, and the most amazing vaulted arches, it proves the perfect backdrop for an elegant and wildly glamorous destination wedding like this gem. Designed by Ebb and Flow Events, with coordination by Honey & Cinnamon, lush white and green florals by Mint Design and the dreamiest of stationery by Written Word Calligraphy, get lost in the beauty and drama of Rebecca Yale’s photographs. From the Photographer… Jenna and Shane were married on a beautiful Fall day surrounded by 24 of their closest friends and family at the historic Villa Cimbrone, an 11th Century Manor on the Amalfi Coast, in Ravello, Italy. The bride always dreamed of getting married by the sea and chose her sapphire engagement ring as the blue reminded her of the ocean, and of course of Princess Diana’s ring, which she was in love with as a child. The bride kept the styling for the day very classic and fashion forward choosing a simple white silk dress with leaf embroidery on the bodice and accessorizing both herself and her groom in touches of black velvet in both his and her shoes, the ring box, his jacket, and black velvet was later used in the ceremony seating and the runner on the wedding banquet table. The bridesmaids (the bride’s sister and best friend) both wore structural black gowns and the groomsmen wore black tux’s and black bowties, contrasting with the groom’s white tie. Lotta of Mint Design created a large oversized bouquet of green and white with trailing black ribbons for the bride and smaller versions for the two bridesmaids. The couple had their first look on the famous infinity terrace that overlooks the ocean followed by portraits around the property.

The ceremony took place under the vaulted arches of the Crypt while the bride’s childhood friend April Kry, just named one of Country Music’s top 5 rising artists, sang to them. Instead of a stage, Mint Design created a wild semi circle floral installation for April to perform in. Instead of traditional chairs the guests were made to feel cozy and intimate with black velvet couches and ottomans, which later doubled as lounge furniture during the reception. The aisle was lined with black candles in clear hurricanes and wrought-iron candelabras dripping in greenery, which also crept up the pillars. The bride and groom did not want a particularly religious service, but made it personalized by writing their own vows in Velvet Raptor vow books and by lighting three candles to represent the joining of their two souls, while also remaining strong independent people. The bride had promised her late grandfather a front row seat at her wedding years ago before she was even engaged, so to honor his memory and the memory of others they had lost, they left an empty seat for photographs wrapped in silk in the front row and light a candle during the ceremony in their memory. After the ceremony the bride and groom enjoyed a few moments alone to walk around the property and take in the magnificent sunset while guests enjoyed a cocktail hour with champagne and local hors d’curves typical of Ravello including mini jars of fresh octopus.

After sunset guests were welcomed back to the Crypt, which had been transformed into a romantic candlelight banquet dinner. A long black velvet runner ran the length of the table with cut crystal bud vases and tea light holders scattered in between oversized crystal candelabras and large marble vases overflowing with eucalyptus. Instead of escort cards the bride had Written Word Calligraphy create custom envelopes with each guests name written on them with the menu placed inside, which were placed over grey silk napkins on the table. The bride and groom sat in the middle of the table positioned so they could look out at the incredible view of the Amalfi cliffs and had the table set so no one was sitting directly across from them to give themselves an unobstructed view. For dessert guests enjoyed a buttercream cake and of course more limoncello and champagne. April sang the night away as guests danced into the wee hours of the morning.

6 Ways to Prepare Your Guests for Your Destination Wedding

Whether you’ve always pictured getting married in a remote, tropical locale or recently decided on a destination wedding, it’s important to make sure you and your guests are prepared before the big day. Here are six easy ways to ensure this is the trip of a lifetime for everyone involved!

Michelle Beckwith

Talk to your family and friends.
Once you have a date and location in mind talk to your parents, close friends and other family members to make sure they’re able to travel and attend. It’s especially important to consider your parent’s input if they’re helping pay for the wedding festivities.

Send out save the dates at least six months in advance.
This will give your guests time to plan for the trip and start searching for airfare. It’s okay if you don’t have all the details planned out yet as long as it clearly states the date and venue location. Add a sentence or two that lets your guests know further details will be sent to them or direct them to your wedding website for more information.

Give your guests several options for accommodations.
If you’re getting married at a hotel or resort, set up a room block on site – you can often negotiate this as part of your contract. Take into account your guest’s comfort levels and budgets and offer at least one or two additional lodging options. Use sites like Skipper to save money and simplify this process.  Make these options clear on your website and provide transportation at all locations to the wedding festivities making everyone feel included no matter which option they choose.

Update your website and use it as a mini guide book for your guests.
Include as much information as possible on your wedding website. Your guests will thank you and you’ll avoid lots of last minute phone calls about hotel information and restaurant recommendations. Some important things to include on your website: lodging (include any room blocks or group rate discount codes), closest airport, best ways to get around town, dress code information, your favorite restaurants and sightseeing locations.

Recognize that many guests will turn your wedding into their vacation.
Especially in the summer months and during holiday weekends like Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day, your wedding guests are looking for any excuse to get out of the office and take a vacation. Lucky for them, you have chosen to host them in a beautiful destination! Whether it’s a city, the mountains or a tropical oasis, your guests are looking forward to this getaway. By keeping your website updated with things to do and places to go, they’ll be prepared for a fun trip and you won’t feel like you have to entertain them outside of the wedding weekend.

Krista A. Jones Photography

Welcome your guests.
Write a very detailed welcome letter greeting all of your guests once they arrive at your destination. If you’ve asked your guests to stay at the same 2-3 hotels, you’ll be able to leave these at the front desk or in each guest’s room. If you don’t know where everyone is staying, an email the week of the wedding will work. Include a detailed schedule of events, addresses and emergency phone numbers, wedding day contacts (wedding planner or venue coordinator) for urgent needs, transportation information and any other information you think is important. Stock their room with a few bottles of water, your favorite local snacks and a map or small guidebook of the city. This will make your guests feel extra special and let them know you appreciate them making the trip.

An Al Fresco Wedding “Under the Tuscan Sun”

Mark and Natasha love three things – wine, music, and Italy – so Lorimar Winery with its view of the mountains and rolling vineyard was the perfect backdrop for their wedding day. Leilani Weddings and Pursue Love Design Co. helped create that “under the Tuscan sun” feeling the couple wanted their guests to experience while at the same time incorporating the Bride’s Chinese heritage in the al fresco reception. Aga Jones Photography captured this perfect blend of old and new, which you can see more of in the gallery.

From the Bride… Mark and I love three things: good wine, good music, and Italy. After a few months of dating, Mark took me to Lorimar Winery on my birthday and asked me to be his girlfriend. Ever since then, we visit the vineyard on my birthday to celebrate our beginning. When it was time to choose a wedding venue, we knew that this Tuscan villa style winery with the Temecula mountains and vineyards in the background would make the perfect setting for our wedding.

The inspiration behind our wedding was to create an elegant, organic, and ethereal aesthetic that was not only romantic, but that also complemented Lorimar Winery’s old world, Italian-inspired architecture. The talented teams from Leilani Weddings and Pursue Love Design Co. brought our vision to life and translated the experience we wanted our guests to enjoy – the feeling of dining al fresco, under the stars in Tuscany.

No details were overlooked for the wedding. A family friend, Danica Nicole Designs, created a beautiful watercolor invitation and custom crest to set the tone for our Tuscan-inspired wedding. Mirrored signs with gold calligraphy with our crest were displayed throughout the vineyard. She also created a sign, “Kiss me under the light of a thousand stars,” to match the words of our first dance song. The escort table cards were written on textured, organic paper in gold calligraphy, placed on top of taupe, chiffon backing inside a gold metal frame. A large and whimsical banner draped with an eucalyptus and olive leaf garland was the backdrop to our sweetheart table. Finally, a watercolor canvas of our venue, designed by our talented calligrapher, served as our guest book.

For the ceremony, guests were greeted with champagne under a pagoda of natural foliage as they entered into an ethereal ceremony site draped with flowing chiffon and climbing greenery that framed the scenic vineyards and mountains.

For cocktail hour, guests were welcomed to the vineyard’s lawn where they could enjoy signature cocktails on tall tables covered with blush pink chiffon and tied with foliage. Guests sipped their wine “under the Tuscan sun” as they lounged on old, European vintage pieces from Etablir and played lawn games.

Leilani Weddings and Pursue Love Design Co. incorporated my Chinese heritage into the tablescape by blending traditional round tables with lazy susans on top and long rows of wooden farm tables featuring table numbers hand calligraphed on organic pressed paper. A blending of old and new traditions had never been done before in my family, and I was the first to attempt this! They not only paid homage to my culture, which my family appreciated, but they also created an intimate, al fresco dining experience reminiscent of Tuscany. A canopy of string lights covered the vineyard lawn and allowed guests to feel like they were dining under the stars. Organic linens paired with lush pastel florals, fresh greenery, delicate gold place settings, and soft candlelight created a romantic and soft tablescape. Each place setting was thoughtfully created with the help of beautiful china and glassware from Abby and Stephanie’s linens. As a take away, a little jar of rosemary-infused olive oil tied with fresh rosemary was placed on each guest’s place setting so that they could take home a little of Tuscany with them. A gorgeous cake adorned with pastel florals that sat on a golden bar cart draped with greenery completed the reception.

From Leilani WeddingsFrom the moment we first sat down with Natasha and Mark to discuss their wedding day vision, we knew they were all about the details and about creating a one-of-a-kind experience for their guests – many of whome had never experienced a very stylized, al fresco, entertainment-laden wedding ever before. Lorimar Winery was the perfect backdrop to create their stunning Tuscan Villa inspired October wedding and reception, planned and designed by us with the help of Caroline from Pursue Love Design Co.  With over 20 creative partners on board, including everything from a custom calligrapher to dueling pianists, we were able to truly create a fairytale for Natasha and Mark.

From the Decor to the Menu, This Provence Wedding Is All Natural

This destination wedding in Provence, France, was natural and organic in every way – from the decor to the menu! Wanderlust Wedding enhanced the beauty of the villa using a light color palette complementary to the lavender and olive trees found on the property, and Angelika Fürstler put together a delicious, completely vegan dinner for guests to enjoy at the reception. Gert Huygaerts Fine Art Photography was there to capture the day, and it’s all waiting for you right here.

From Gert Huygaerts Fine Art PhotographyWith this authentic and intimate destination wedding, we would like to share the utterly romantic day of Sylviane and Adam in the gorgeous surroundings of Provence. The private villa with its olive trees, traditional building style, and gorgeous swimming pool was the ideal decor for a both organic and sophisticated wedding day.

In the morning, the couple and their guests gathered at the ancient church of Grasse, where the couple exchanged their vows in a traditional ceremony. For the reception and dinner, Lisa and Franck from Wanderlust Wedding managed to create a truly romantic Provence atmosphere by working with the beautiful and natural elements the region has to offer. Thinking of lavender as a detail throughout the day, amongst the olive trees – what could one expect more from Provence? Adding the floral skills of D’Amour et de Deco was the perfect finish of this beautiful day. In the same organic and natural style, the stationery was created by Niceplume in an amazingly beautiful greyish-purple color scheme.

Having a vegan reception dinner with a delicious menu by Angelika Fürstler, the organic accent continued throughout the day, from refreshing and natural lemonades to lavender champagne and a wedding cake by Citron Pavot.

Working with vendors at a high quality level definitely was a big plus at the wedding. It helps take away the stress and guarantees good service at all levels.

A Wedding Designed Around a Love of Literature

As you will read from photographer Caroline Lima below, this couple is glowing and radiant in every single way possible. They have a big love, not only for each other, but those in every corner of their lives. And isn’t that what a wedding day is all about? The cherry on the top are the sweet, sweet details—like their guest book made with library-themed cards for their guests to write them messages and put in an old card catalog—fitting for the Bride who happens to work at a library! See more of their day right here.

From Caroline LimaWhen I first worked with Courtney and Jon last fall on their engagement session, I was struck by how genuine they are. I think it’s impossible not to be drawn to their kind, calm personalities. We had such a good conversation, strolling through the UNC campus. And as I watched them through my lens, I could clearly see the depth of their feelings for one another. When we parted ways that day, I immediately began to look forward to their Chapel Hill Carriage House wedding. Well, the day finally arrived! And it was every bit as beautiful and special as I knew it would be.

For one, Courtney’s smile is absolutely contagious! She was glowing and radiant, and just like Jon cares so much for the people around her. As her bridesmaids were helping her dress, Courtney took time to tell them she felt honored to have them there. She made all of her loved ones feel as special and important as they really are to her. And so did Jon. It is such a pleasure and a gift to see that kind of love and generosity…and it all starts with the bride and groom.

The ceremony took place at the University Presbyterian Church in Chapel Hill. Before it began, Jon and Courtney exchanged letters and gifts. Watching the emotion on Jon’s face as he read Courtney’s words was so touching. At one point, he broke off and said (obviously to himself) “What did I do to deserve her?” A genuine moment that I will never forget! Later, as he watched his bride come down the aisle, tears welled up in Jon’s eyes. So beautiful! And the surprising part? The deep and true emotion of this wedding transitioned into a very exciting dance floor! This bride and groom can definitely cut a rug! I can’t help but giggle now, remembering how much fun it was to watch them at their reception at The Carriage House! A huge thanks to Kast Events, such a perfect and smooth day!

Jaw-Dropping Welcome Dinner on the Amalfi Coast

I’m pretty certain Jenna and Shane had the most epic welcome dinner any guest could ever hope to attend. Set on Italy’s Amalfi Coast, the evening began with passed hors d’oeuvres and drinks under the olive groves, followed up by a cozy autumn meal enjoyed al fresco. Ebb & Flow Events planned and Honey and Cinnamon coordinated this Italian soirée while Rebecca Yale photographed one amazing moment after another. Have a closer look in the gallery and sit tight for the wedding reveal coming up this afternoon.

From Rebecca Yale… Jenna and Shane were married on a beautiful Fall day surrounded by 24 of their closest friends and family at the historic Villa Cimbrone, an 11th Century Manor on the Amalfi Coast, in Ravello, Italy. Their wedding celebration was a multi-day affair on the Amalfi Coast and kicked off with a welcome dinner at the Belmond Hotel Caruso. Guests were welcomed to their rooms with a welcome package featuring a program of the week’s activities in a wax sealed vellum envelope, fresh lemons and limoncello, which Ravello is famous for. Guests spent the day exploring the pedestrian only medieval town of Ravello and lounging by the hotel’s famous infinity pool followed by cocktail hour under a grove of olive trees and a dinner on the great lawn overlooking the cliffs of Amalfi as the sunset over the ocean turning the sky around them pink and yellow.

In typical Italian fashion, the best-laid plans went out the window and the original plan for the rehearsal dinner was to use all white marble plates and vessels, but with an Italian shipping error the shipment with the brides items ended up in Lake Como instead of the Amalfi Coast and the bride, who runs a destination weddings and events company, had to improvise along with the floral designer, Mint Design, to create a new tablescape for the welcome dinner. Thankfully the wonderful Federica of Honey and Cinnamon was able to track down the missing rentals and save the day getting them there in time for the wedding the next day!

The bride had brought over some of the essentials in her suitcases and they were able to create a stunning tablescape using autumnal florals and beautiful bottles of limoncello, which guests were able to keep at the end of the night as a favor. It was the perfect introduction to Ravello. Guests enjoyed passed hors d’oeuvres, champagne, and a signature punch cocktail under the olive groves while being serenaded by a guitar player who had been flown in from Nashville to accompany singer, April Kry, the following evening at the wedding.

With our bride’s pixie cut adorned with a jeweled halo, we’re able to see the full detail of the intertwining back.

Our bouquet is unique in shape and striking in color. Tones of mauve and pinks are used to further enhance the look. We imagined our bride’s carefree spirit leads to an insanely beautiful outdoor setting, as you see her frolicking around Arabia Mountain – just east of Atlanta. To top it all off, our bride’s vision leads to a simple and classic invitation suite, using neutral tones and wax seals to complete the vision.

10 Ways to Celebrate Your First Anniversary, From Casual to Over The Top

You did it! While your first 365 days of marriage may involve some adjustment, it’s also a very special and exciting time. It’s time to celebrate! From casual to over the top, here are a few wedding anniversary ideas to help you plan the perfect celebration.

Stay in for a romantic evening at home.

There’s nothing wrong with planning a quiet night in with your spouse. Start by cooking dinner together — or get take-out — then enjoy that anniversary cake you saved all year long. Pro tip: De-thaw your frozen cake 24 hours by placing it in the refrigerator until one hour before eating, then place on the counter to warm up to room temperature. Don’t have any leftover cake? Call your bakery ahead of time and see if they will make a small one for you. It’s tradition after all. Keep the evening casual by putting on some comfy (ahem, sexy) clothes and watch your wedding videos or look back at your wedding photo album together.

Plan a romantic picnic.

Take your romantic dinner outdoors by making a day of it. Pack a picnic with your favorite foods and champagne — and don’t forget the blanket. Add an extra special touch by creating a music playlist with all your wedding songs you danced to and connect a small Bluetooth speaker. By stepping out of your daily routine it will make this one year anniversary feel exactly as it should be: significant.

Make reservations for a romantic night out.

A year will go by fast, so make time for each other in the form of date night and activities. Often! Especially on your one year anniversary. Take a trip down memory lane by dining at the location of your rehearsal dinner or first date, or even the spot you celebrated your engagement. Reminisce on your wedding day and your first official year together as husband and wife. Think about ways in which you can celebrate further when you get home. But don’t forget dessert. See if they have something on the menu that resembles your wedding or grooms cake.

Get tickets to a concert, theater or sporting event.

Find out when your favorite band is touring or go see the artist that sang your first dance song. Love movies or the theater? Pick a show that might share some meaning in your relationship. Consider a road trip to go see your college team play, especially if that’s where you first met! Similar to how you remember your first date, you’ll always remember your first wedding anniversary too. If you have to travel, make it a weekend getaway.

Book a one-year anniversary photoshoot.

Document your newly married life together. Hire a photographer to capture post-wedding photos and use them to help decorate your new home. Not only can you get a new outfit for the shoot, it’s a great reason to start your day at the spa: get your nails, hair and makeup done. Consider treating yourselves to a couples massage and lunch before your golden hour shoot. Hint: Just before sunset makes for great photographs!

Renew your vows.

Confirm your commitment to one another by renewing your vows with a pastor, priest, or rabbi. Read your original vows or create new ones. Commemorate your wedding day together in an intimate setting where you can remember why you both were married. This can be done in front of close friends and family or just between the two of you.

Exchange gifts.

From designer bags to luxury watches, anniversary gifts can range across the board based on your bank account. Don’t spend your life savings if you’re planning to start a family anytime soon, but surprise each other with something special to celebrate your first wedding anniversary.

Host a family BBQ.

For the family-oriented couple, invite everyone over for a backyard cookout. It’s an easy way to get both sides of the family together. Not sure if the weather is going to cooperate? Make it a potluck instead and recreate dishes served at your wedding!

Throw a first wedding anniversary party.

Whether you have room at your home or rent a venue space — say your wedding reception spot — get all your friends and family together again for a one-year anniversary party. From invitations to entertainment, this sort of celebration could even be bigger than the wedding! Don’t forget the champagne toast.

Take a second honeymoon.

First class airplane tickets to paradise is the ultimate way to spend your first wedding anniversary. Find somewhere new to go or venture back to the place where you spent your first honeymoon. Want to explore? Rent a car when you land and plan an adventure that will make this trip one to remember. Consider booking couples massages, try couples yoga, or go sailing! You can even document your getaway by using Flytographer to capture all the memories.

The Perfect LBD for a NYC Engagement

You would never know by the photos captured by Mekina Saylor Weddings that it was a mere 35 degrees outside the day of this cute couple’s engagement photos in Central Park. The pair look insanely chic (hello, LBD of our dreams!) and oh-so in love, so scroll on to see all the gorgeousness!

From the Mekina Saylor WeddingsAli and Ryan’s romance blossomed in New York City, and that is where they’ll begin their happily ever after. We went to Central Park for their engagement session. We roamed around, being all kinds of fancy in Ali’s little black dress from Revolve. These two couldn’t be any cuter while dancing around the Bethesda Terrace and non-stop smiling at one another.

From the Bride-to-be… Ryan and I met through our mutual friend, Maggie, while in college. Labor Day Weekend of 2010, Maggie invited me to Ryan’s house in Avalon, New Jersey, where we enjoyed a weekend as friends, leaving the beach not knowing when we would see each other again. Ryan, a New Yorker since graduating Columbia in 2010, worked in the city while I started my post-college years working in my hometown of Scranton, Pennsylvania. As time went on, I got a job offer and moved to New York City in September 2012. On that following fateful Valentine’s Day, I went to a bar with my friends and ran into Ryan. I definitely believe in “serendipity,” so I knew we were meant to meet that night. We said our hellos and how good it was to see each other. Two weeks later, Ryan texted me, and we went on our first “real” date. The rest is history!

You could never tell that it was 35 degrees outside the day of our engagement photos, thanks to our amazing photographer, Mekina! This upcoming October we will be celebrating our marriage at a candlelit mass followed by dinner and dancing with our closest family and friends. I can’t wait!

A Strikingly Beautiful Gown Literally Made for the Bride

Get ready to pick your jaw up from the floor, because this Bride’s bespoke MXM Couture dress is that good. The intricate bodice, neckline, and sleeves paired with the light and airy train create an ethereal effect that set the tone for the entire, breathtaking wedding. Sally Pinera Photography captured this gorgeous Melbourne celebration – some of our favorite moments and details are below, but there’s so much more to see in the gallery.

I had the honor of meeting sweet Genesis and Tony in Melbourne, Australia for their beautiful celebration in Yarra Valley, the countryside of Australia. A bride with lovely style, Genesis wore a MXM couture gown with stunning details. For florals she had the ever so amazing Studio by Fleur create a neutral dream! Overflowing with fluffy whites and whimsical florals, the ceremony and reception was dreamy. I cannot thank Genesis and Tony enough for inviting me to document their love and sweet celebration amongst dear friends and family.

How to Enjoy Wedding Season— And Not Empty Your Bank Account!

It’s no secret that weddings cost money. But, witnessing your loved ones say their “I Do’s” is worth the hefty price tag. To help offset some of those costs, we’ve come up with the best ways to save—and where you should splurge—when attending a wedding.

KT Merry Photography

Where to save:
Rent a dress
When attending weddings, there are often lots of pictures taken, causing us to always want something new. But instead of buying a brand new dress that you may only wear once, try renting one. With sites like renttherunway.com and stylelend.com, you can get gorgeous, designer dresses for so much less.

Ditch the room block
As a favor to their guests, couples will often block off a set of rooms under their name so people can easily book accommodations. But, while the room blocks can sometimes be the best route (many couples are able to snag awesome rates for these!), know that there are always other options. Research other hotels in the area or even try renting an AirBnB with other friends attending the wedding—it could save you tons and be a super fun solution.

Shop around
The same can be said for registries. If you see a gift on a couple’s registry site that you love, try searching for it somewhere else. Oftentimes, you’ll be able to find the item, or something similar, for a much lower price.
Plan Early
Once you get the save-the-date, start researching. Hotel rooms and airline flights are often much cheaper farther out, and if you start looking at gifts now, chances are something will go on sale before you need to buy it. The same can be said for dresses, suits and all the other things you’ll need for the wedding, too.

Where to splurge:
Gift nicely
As we said above, always shop around, but that doesn’t mean you have to buy something cheap. Here, it’s less about the money and more about the sentiment. If your friend or family member loves giraffes and you see awesome giraffe-shaped candle holders, get them. Or if you think they’ll love a DIY and you end up spending a bit more on supplies than you originally intended, know that their love for the gift will be worth it in the end.

Melissa Jill Photography

Don’t skimp on the shoes
This one is so important! Weddings are all-day affairs and you’ll be walking around in those shoes for the entirety of it, not to mention dancing the night away. Get shoes that fit you perfectly and will keep your feet comfortable for hours. Just don’t forget to break them in before the wedding!

Stay a while
Attending a destination wedding? Or even a wedding an hour from your home? Try to make a vacation out of it and stay an extra day or two. Plan a romantic night out with your S.O. the day after the wedding or a fun day-trip with your girlfriends on your way home. Making the whole weekend feel more like a vacation will make the spending seem far more worth it.

Luna de Mare Photography

Show support
This one doesn’t involve one cent. As cheesy as it may sound, the most important place to splurge is with your emotions. The money aspect can be stressful for guests, but just remember why you’re there and the special moment you are about to witness. Keep any money woes to yourself (or vent to friends—just leave the bride out of it!) and never skimp on love, hugs, and emotional support.

The Sweetest Spring Farm Wedding Every Guest Would Love

The great state of Texas and gorgeous farm weddings go hand-in-hand, and Laura and Connor’s big day photographed by Hannah Mayson is the perfect example. Designed with meaningful details and classic elegance galore byJ Low Events, these two pulled off a celebration they’ll always remember including a stunning floral table runner that’s one for the books. Have a peek below for so much more!

From Hannah MaysonDrawn to Chandelier Grove because of its simple beauty, Laura and Connor’s wedding among the pecan trees embodied just that. The weather was perfect, the details were beautifully planned out, and even the little ring bearers performed their duties without hesitation, but the entire day can truly be summed up in the bride’s smile. See for yourself!

Every guest had chills as Laura walked through the Farmhouse doors into the sun which lit up her BHLDN gown from behind. Connor was overcome with tears as he watched his bride walk towards him with the biggest smile. The two were married under a floral arch that perfectly complimented the bridesmaids blush dresses. Laura and Connor made it a point to spend their engagement dreaming about their marriage in addition to talking about wedding details, which intersected in the most touching ceremony. “Connor and I had both prayed that we would be completely present during our ceremony–acknowledging the gravity and beauty of the moment, and that prayer was answered tenfold.”

Being Masters Weekend, Arnold Palmers and golf updates were served alongside the bride’s choice, margaritas during cocktail hour in the pavilion. Laura and Connor joined their guests for toasts and dancing to some oldies by the lively eight-piece band. After all the classics, the newlyweds ran through white rose petals to their getaway car – the father of the groom’s vintage Porsche, decorated with a floral garland, or course.

Laura’s advice to brides in the midst of planning is, “Don’t take it all too seriously. It’s such a blessing to plan a wedding and work with talented people–the stress just isn’t worth it. My favorite part of wedding planning was all of the friendships I made with our vendors. These women (and men) are so talented and kind, and it was just a joy to support and affirm them in their work and get to know them personally.

Go Behind the Scenes of This Classic-Meets-Modern Bridal Inspo Shoot

Inspired by spring gardens, Ashley Pigott Events worked together with a team of incredible Toronto vendors to create this elegant bridal session. Classic details, such as the lace ball gown and an ornately decorated cake, are infused with modern touches, such as the geometric centerpieces and bright, whimsical florals. Corina V. Photography brought the story to life using her lens, and Images Life Media captured fantastic behind the scenes footage of the shoot!

From Ashley Pigott EventsIn the dead of winter, on a snowy Toronto day, a group of A-list luxury wedding professionals brought spring to life at Graydon Hall Manor. Inspired by the coming spring and all things botanical, I drew inspiration from colorful florals, deep lush greens, and dreamy pastels. We layered together various colors and textures to create an incredible tablescape. Hints of rose gold throughout each stunning detail add a touch of sparkle to this styled shoot. A magical mix of bright blooms from Nous Design and soft chiffons from Simply Beautiful with mixed metallic accents filled out day. The varying elements came together, beautifully allowing each element to complement the others, but also each a statement standing alone.

Ferris Wheel Press took our inspiration and created the perfect invitation, a balance of soft pastel hues with rose gold foil. The favor tag detail with our mini Sloane tea caddy as well as the menu detail created a consistent visual throughout our stationery elements.

The soft blush Monique Lhuillier gown embroidered with floral lace was the perfect complement to our Bride’s porcelain skin tone and dancer’s frame. A feminine up-do and fresh dewy look created by Olivia Ha highlighted each of her delicate features.

Heavily inspired by the current trend of greenery and full vibrant florals, Brides are steering away from the traditional white and blush weddings opting for colorful and organically styled arrangements. Long gone are the days of tight round florals – this year, the trends are loose and flowing cascades of florals and greens in bouquets and table arrangements. This is an elevated, more formal take on the rustic trend we’ve seen for the last few years.

All of this beauty was expertly captured in the dreamy and ethereal style that Corina Van Sluytman of Corina V. Photography is known for. This shoot is one of my absolute favorites!
