Picnic Engagement Session

A picnic in the park is pretty much awesome any day of the week, but add in an adorable duo celebrating their upcoming nuptials and a fabulous vintage gown from Betty’s Girl Boutique and it kicks that awesome day up a few notches.  Think lounging around in the grass and a whole lot of sun-filled (+ beautiful) images captured by B Hull Photography.  See them all here.

From B Hull Photography… Anna and Jake met at a summer session class at Sacred University, where they both attended undergrad. Although they had very many mutual friends, they did not formally meet or know each other until that summer class in 2006. Their first date however, did not happen until 2011 but, they have been inseparable ever since!

For their engagement session Anna knew exactly what she was wearing, a vintage dress she purchased in Napa Valley a few years back! Oakland Beach Park in Rye, NY was the perfect backdrop for their picnic in the park.

Casual Wedding at Shenorock Shore Club

What we have here, my loves, is a lesson on how to use bright colors beautifully. This beachy wedding from Craig Paulson Photography is what I would imagine pure happiness and love bottled up in one day would look like, and the smiles? Well, they’re here for the rest of the day!

Country Club

From the stunning bride… We wanted our wedding to be colorful, casual and fun. The day was perfect and the setting even better – a beautiful beach club on the Long Island Sound. I grew up playing in the sand here so it was a very nostalgic location for me. We both love the beach and were able to incorporate a nautical element into all aspects of the wedding – from the invitations, to the gift bags, to Kevin’s tie clip. The relaxed and low key vibe carried through to the ceremony – we read our own vows and had a friend do a reading from a children’s book. One of the highlights of the reception was our signature drink. A bar owner friend came through in a huge way and sent over cases of homemade artisanal pickle juice for Picklebacks (Kevin’s favorite – Jameson shots followed by shots of pickle juice). Sounds weird, but they were a hit!

My uncle surprised us toward the end of the night with a Japanese paper lantern, which Kevin and I lit together while everyone crowded around to watch it float away over the Sound.

Kevin and I had been dating for almost 10 years when we got married. We met in college and have been best friends ever since. Kevin proposed a year and a half ago at Blue Hill at Stone Barns, on a Fall hike at one of our favorite spots. Our August wedding was originally scheduled for June, and had to be pushed back due to damage to the Club from Hurricane Sandy. Shenorock looks better than ever and it was all worth it – the most perfect day I can imagine.

Long Island Sound Engagement ~ Melani Lust Photography

The final engagement session we’re showcasing today is a breathtaking shoot from Melani Lust Photography. We started off the day by saying that the one common denominator in all engagement shoots is the almost palpable love shared between the couple. You can style or dress or prop all you want, but the bottom line is the emotion caught on film that tells the true story …

I have never, ever loved a photograph more than this one of Elizabeth and Leo tenderly holding hands.

Leo proposed to Elizabeth at the Fort Tilden Beach on the Long Island Sound in New York, so we went back to that spot for their engagement shoot. The sunrise light at 6 am provided beautiful atmosphere for the shoot. Leo is an avid photo enthusiast and shutterbug himself, so he brought his large format camera for a stylized shoot with Elizabeth. We look forward to their October wedding at The Society Room in Hartford, CT.
