From The Bride… When my husband proposed to me in August of 2011, my mind instantly went into planning mode. The first hurdle to overcome was to convince my fiancé that we should get married in my dream location – New York City. I first visited NYC when I was 18-years-old and instantly fell in love – I always said I’d get married there but convincing my fiancé, family and friends would prove to be somewhat of a challenge. Being from a small town in Alberta, Canada, this couldn’t have been more of a shock to our families (especially my husband’s!). When most people think of destination weddings they think Hawaii or Mexico, but our idea of a perfect destination wedding was the Big Apple itself. The search for the venue was on! Many locations were out of our budget or we couldn’t meet the minimum guest requirement and then my mom mentioned The Peninsula and the fact they had a rooftop bar. I researched the hotel and was instantly in love! What’s more New York than a rooftop patio right on 5th Avenue!

Planning a destination wedding is a tough task in itself, but it’s even harder when it’s in New York City. There is no shortage of vendors to choose from, all of whom are amazing. Most of our vendors were chosen sight unseen which made for an extremely nervous bride at the best of times. The day of the wedding came and was more perfect than we could have ever imagined. I had a vision of our wedding being romantic and whimsical and our florist did an amazing job of bringing that vision, which was laid out through email, to life.

As my dad passed away seven years ago, it was extremely important that my Grandma and Aunt were both able to attend my wedding. At 83 years young, my Grandma boarded the plane and headed to one of the busiest cities on Earth. When she walked into my bridal suite the morning of my wedding, I was completely overcome with emotion. Nothing could have been more special to me than to have her with me, my dad’s mom, on the most important day of my life.

Aside from it being slightly chilly that evening (48 degrees isn’t exactly ideal for an outdoor wedding), the day went off more perfectly than I could have dreamed. I married the man of my dreams in the world’s most amazing city surrounded by our closest family and friends.
