From the Bride…Our love story feels like something out of a movie! We met at his own birthday BBQ in the Bronx (introduced by his sister!). We fell in love over a tray of pulled pork (we’re both Southerners at heart). We were engaged 7 months later after he proposed on one knee in my studio apartment with an art deco ring I “accidentally” picked out. And seven months after that we were married (at our parish church, the beautiful St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City, surrounded by loads of family and friends from all over the world)!

It was a scorching hot day, but the sun was shining and I was the happiest person in the world. A 1933 Rolls Royce convertible picked us up outside the church after the ceremony, and we created quite the spectacle. Tourists came in throngs to take pictures! Mark pulled out a bottle of champagne and let the cork pop for the entire crowd to see. People were clapping and cheering as we made our way down Fifth Avenue, all the way to the South Street Seaport, where our reception was at. The venue was perfect. Light flooded in the space that overlooks the water and the rock/country band that we hired because they were playing the night Mark threw me a surprise birthday party was a ton of fun.

When Mark and I first started talking about our wedding, we decided we wanted to have as many of the people who have loved and supported us through the years with us on our wedding day, and to celebrate by throwing a great fun party in the city that we met and fell in love in! Working on a budget in NYC was not an easy task. I spent hours scouring blogs and websites and magazines to find really AWESOME vendors at reasonable prices.

I fell in love with my stationery from a rockin’ place in Brooklyn called Lion in the Sun. To see those words in writing for the first time “request the honor of your presence at the nuptial Mass uniting their daughter”…it still makes me giddy with glee. Our photographer, Judy Pak, I stumbled upon on SMP’s website. I was inspired by an engagement shoot she had done. When we met over a cup of coffee at Starbucks for the first time, we just seemed to click and I knew she would do a fabulous job!

The DRESS…was an adventure. I tried on every single dress in the great city of New York and then some more when Mark and I went on vacation in Costa Rica. I kept waiting for that “THIS IS IT!” moment, but it never really came. Finally, as March was upon me and I still had no dress, I went by myself one day after work, saw my dress on the rack, tried it on, and bought it…feeling a little like Grace Kelly and knowing I would be comfortable. It wasn’t until my actual wedding day that I was completely head over heels for my dress.

After I selected each vendor, I trusted them to do what they do best and in the end, we could not have been happier. Everything was beautiful, classy, simple, yet lovely. And from what I can tell, everyone had such a fun time, especially us!

Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! I added this wedding to my favourites where there are only 3 including this one :-) I am Italian so it's quite difficult to find a wedding I can relate to because traditions are a bit different from American weddings, but this is so classic :-) Congratulations, Stephanie! I'm also very impressed by the fact there's no wedding planner or event coordinator involved in this wedding as such a professional figure seems indispensable nowadays. Brava, Stephanie! I have just one question: did you use blue only for the colur of your bridesmaids' dresses or somehwere else as well? It looks like it was total white wedding. I also think I'll have a total white wedding but I'm not sure about the coulor of my bridesmaids' dress. I was thinking about pewter or steel grey but blue looks like a very good alternative :-)

    Stephanie,
So glad to have you found this! You look absolutely gorgeous, even more gorgeous than the Alexander Justin model wearing this dress! This is actually the dress that I fell in love with while dress shopping and it is the one for me. I wanted to ask you though, how did you get your dress to look not so poofy? My consultant told me that I can take layers off. Is that what you did?

    February 3, 2012 at 8:42 pm

Tabby, when I tried it on, the train was long as did in this picture. Of course I can't speak for Stephanie, but I don't think anything was added.

    Hi Ladies,

Thanks for your posts! Regarding the train, I did not add any material. Tabby, I am 5'4 and wore 3 in. heels and the train was a good length. As for the alterations, Taylor, I didn't remove any layers...i think with time, the dress just fell nicely. I was so pleased with my wedding dress. I think it is perfect! Best of luck to all you brides out there.

I have fallen in love with your dress after seeing this! BUT it doesn't look anywhere near as nice on the models as it does on you, also yours looks a different colour (which I like, is it different to the colour of the ones the models wear?) I really want to try it on now! xx

Thank god I finally found this dress! I have seen your dress on pinterest a million times and looked and looked and looked trying to find it and finally I did! I'll agree with everyone else thought it looks more beautiful on you than in the model photos. Is it a different color?
