The party is far from over!  Take a looksie at the trendy highlights from Studio Z Films

There are 2 sides of NYC. There’s the downtown, chic urban vibe and then there’s the uptown, traditional NYC. Monica and David’s personal style embody both and really reflected them in their wedding.  Guastavino’s was the perfect venue since it embodied both classic NY architecture with vaulted ceilings and also the hip, industrial side of NY with it’s exposed pipes and location under the belly of the Queensboro Bridge.

The invitations played on the traditional set with a monogram and elegant frame but with graffiti fonts and dripping and splattered spray paint effects. I think my favorite part of the invitation was the background wallpaper that repeated, “You are the work of my life and I am the work of yours.” That was David’s poeticim.  The escort card, the menus and the favor card all followed suit with the invitation design. In addition we took the monogram design and also created a large cling that went around one of the exposed pipes to make it as if we “tagged” the venue. The monogram was also splashed across a brick wall printed fabric that acted as the photobooth background. We supplied the photobooth with spray can props and other fun costumes and let people’s creativity take care of the rest!

For the ceremony a custom tree was built inside the venue’s large cave-like dome. Hanging exposed bulbs added a modern element to the tree as did the contemporary ghost chairs that the guests sat in. I’m always concerned about “how will the pictures look” and dislike when people hold folders or papers during the ceremony since it clashes with the soft decor. For Monica and David the officiant used a large piece of bark as his folder and for the couple’s personalized vows were also on smaller pieces of bark that were actually adhered to the tree trunk so that the officiant peeled it off the tree and handed each their vows during the ceremony. Later in the night the tree remained and became the backdrop for the bar. It created this outdoor-indoor feel that was perfect for this warm summer night.

The cocktail arrangements were comprised of mostly succulents, rocks, moss and tropical greens. There was a very minimalist, contemporary feel that went well with the  loft look of the cocktail hour space. Extra large succulents acted as the escort card holders so that the cards fanned out and were stuck between their petals for a unique presentation.   In line with unique presentations we weaved the menu cards between the dinner forks so that they stood up vertically. 6’  tall laurel branches which looked as if they are growing out of the center of the table were accented with a lush garden at the base of the branches. An assortment of unique succulents, kale and whimsical lavender flowers like allium and lavender added to the fun. The laurel branches were decorated with purple orchids and mercury hanging candle holders. The room was finished off with a purple glow that engulfed and saturated every corner of the reception.

Monica and David incorporated their individual cultures throughout the evening. Before the ceremony a traditional Chinese tea ceremony was held in honor of David’s background as were the Chinese drum and dragon dancers that surprised guests at the end of the cocktail hour and led the way up to the reception. After dinner the Halo Halo station which is a traditional Filipino dessert was set out next to the bar and as guests left they were each given a cracked pearl box favor that Monica’s mother had sent from the Philippines.

Monica and David are incredibly stylish and brilliantly creative, fun-loving people. I think their wedding was a true reflection of them and one that my staff still calls a favorite!

This was my cousin Monica's wedding! I can't believe made it into one of the shots! :D As beautiful as Monica and David's wedding looks in the pictures and the video, it was so much more amazing to be there... Everything from the floor to the ceiling and everything in between was beautiful, the food was INCREDIBLE, and it was seriously one of the funnest nights of my life! So glad to see her wedding featured on this blog!!

  32. Sonia says:

Can you ask your cousin where she got her very pretty earrings? :)

  33. Coretta says:

Stunning! I'm such a purple fan.

  34. Monica says:

    Hi Ladies,

I am the bride and am happy to answer your questions. I just came back from a business trip and was delighted to see that you also share my wonder whenever I see these photos.

Daughter of Design, Hatch, Belathee and Studio Z are such incredible partners!! Not to mention the amazing team at Guastavino's. If you have an opportunity to work with any of these incredible teams, you will be blown away. I promise.

    Anyway, on to the questions:

Dress: Good call Katherine. It's the Vera Wang Diana dress.

Earrings: Lovely NY jewelry designers called Dannijo. Visit www.dannijo.com to purchase. Mine are the Cecile earrings. They have some heft! Not the lightest pair of earrings but beautifully made and perfectly edgy.

Shoes: Unfortunately these were only sold for the Louboutin Spring 2010 season. But just go out there are look for mirrored shoes! I've seen other designers do this as well. I'm sure there are other less expensive versions of the technique ;) Also, word to the wise. This type of shoe can get caught on the tulle of your dress. Test the two together!

Chinese Lion Dancers: This was SO fun! I absolutely recommend this team, and more generally speaking, taking the time to integrate nods to your culture/heritage throughout the night. I need to get back to you with their name. I just found them online through a google search, talked to them about what I wanted, and they delivered!

  35. M & D...this was by far the most beautiful wedding we have ever been to!! You are both gorgeous!!! We had a ball!!!

  36. cha says:

    Hi Monica,
Great- yes if you could let me know their name for the lion dancers, I would totally appreciate it!!
    Look forward to hearing back.
    Thanks!

  37. rebekah says:

just wondering where the beautiful diamond belt was from?

  38. Dorothée says:

We loved being a part of it. Thanks for all the wonderful comments and compliments!
As Monica mentioned, it was a superb team of vendors..and an incredibly creative couple.

    Dorothée and Annabel

  39. Kimberly says:

Ah! this is wonderful. I am getting married in August in Downton Denver. I love our venue but was disappointed that we couldn't find anywhere with the grove of trees that I had always imagined growing up. So, my wonderful wedding coordinator who is just starting her business (i am her first wedding!) wants to do an installation tree like this. Is there anyway you would be willing to tell us how you did this??

    Thank you so much.

  40. Morgan says:

Monica, I LOVED your wedding, absolutely beautiful!! Wanted to ask where you got the belt for your gown? I'm also wearing the Diana and am looking for something similar to wear to change my look for the reception. Again, STUNNING photos! :)

  41. Kathy Donatelli says:

This wedding is just wonderful. The colors, simple floral and everything about it is in such good taste. Where did you purchase the monogram from, company name? I would love it if you could share the info.

  42. Kristina says:

    Love this wedding! Gorgeous.

Where did you get your belt, Monica?

  43. tomandyolanda says:

    Hi,

Amazing wedding.... where did you get the belt? Beautiful.......

  44. Rita says:

This wedding is the most gorgeous wedding I have ever seen pictures of, just wow...I don't even have any other words!

  45. I was just searching around for inspiration on kale and allium florals and this took the cake. Amazing!!

  46. Janice A. says:

    Monica,

I am LOVING your graffitti concept, please advise where i can get futher info?
