Mega Wedding Crush Alert. Anyone who knows me is well aware of the fact that I fall in love with weddings on a daily basis but dare I say; this just might be my most favorite wedding of ALL TIME. Danielle and John were married at The Metropolitan Building in Long Island City, New York. With an incredible warehouse venue as the backdrop, this artsy duo put together something so unique, so gorgeous, so eclectic aaaannd they did it all on a budget. All of the lovely details were captured by the husband and wife duo behind Weddings by V & E. Still need more of that perfect, perfect shade of robin’s egg blue? Check out the gallery for the full wedding.

This wedding was a small affair designed by the bride and groom on a budget. The bride is an artist and an avid antique collector. The Metropolitan building was a perfect fit since it is also houses antique furniture that may be used during the wedding. The bride’s mother created her cake topper (the knit birds) and her veil. The bride created non-floral centerpieces to save money by using birds’ nests, branches, little birds, stones, birch bark and candles. Birds became a theme throughout the wedding… robin’s egg blue was used on the stones, as well as on the eggs that sat in a bed of moss for escort cards. A large alcove became an installation of antique birdcages and candles. Her invitations were hand-drawn, and used birds as well.
Music was also very important to the bride and groom because the groom’s family has a band. His father played guitar as they walked down the aisle and his sister sang during the ceremony. The bride’s dress was a Lela Rose sample, which she had custom altered to fit as more of a mermaid silhouette. She altered her shoes by gluing on fabric flowers, and also had a pair of sandals from Anthropologie for dancing.

So gorgeous! What a perfect raw-yet-romantic venue as backdrop, and the robins egg escort cards are such a sweet touch. LOVE!
I LOVE the two little birds-any info?
Love the birch vases.
I've never seen a wedding feature with so few smiles. Pretty, though.
I wish my wedding could be this amazing, what a place! And her dress, oh I love that dress! I love old, rustic, antique, raw...beats a stuffy ballroom anyday!

ummmmm WOW! That is a gorgeous setting and fantastic details!!!! I want one like that!
I absolutely LOVED your wedding decor, photos by the talented V&E, everything! I found myself wishing I could be there just to be able to inspect all those fun designs from up close (centerpieces, name holders, candle holders, cake toppers are all CHARMING!)
You are so talented Danielle and John! I'd love to see more of your art if you have a site/blog.
Thanks Erin for placing it here for all of us to see and feel the joy.
Where did you get that fabulous clutch??
I love the groom's and groomsmen's suits. Where are they from? My fiance is very interested as he's trying to find a suit for our wedding. Thank you!
Hi everyone! Thanks so much for all the responses! The wedding was a labor of love! I went on a bird kick the year I got engaged and just carried it over from my apartment decor to the wedding! I am an avid anthropologie fan, and this place was basically like stepping into a catalogue. My mother designed the cake toppers. She used scraps from my veil to make the bride's dress, and musical themed fabric for the groom to represent my husband's talents. My veil she also made. I purchased the fabric at Mood in nyc. It was vintage inspired and had tiny little dots on it! The veil cost $30.00 to make! My dress was by Lela Rose and is called the Lily Pond. It was an a-line silhouette but I had it redesigned into a mermaid shape. It was a silk/cotton blend, very organic, simple, and no lace or beads! The flowers added some texture. I was able to purchase it as a sample at Hitched Salon in Washington DC. The clutch is from J. Crew. The groomsmans' suits were seersucker and were purchased at the Brooks Brothers outlet. My husband's suit was from Banana Republic and was very affordable with coupons, etc. It was a cotton/linen blend. Feel free to comment, I am so flattered that everyone loved it so much!!!

Danielle-
Does your mom have a pattern for the bird cake topper? I've been trying to make them for ages with no success. If you'd like to get in touch please email me @ thriftywedding{at}gmail{dot}com. Thanks a bunch!
Would love to find a location like this in Charleston.
