From the Bride…Michael and I met in college at Fordham University and got engaged on a vacation in Ireland after years of being together. It was a special trip for us as I wanted to show Michael where my family is from since both sides of my family are Irish and my mom was born there. After Michael popped the question in a private spot overlooking the Lakes of Killarney, we headed out for a celebratory dinner in town. Seated next to us were 15 Irish gentlemen who, after realizing we had just gotten engaged, proceeded to go to the front of the restaurant where there was a piano (naturally) and serenaded us in true Irish fashion for over an hour. It was such a special experience and one we’ll never be able to recreate.

We wanted our September wedding to capture some of the natural beauty, local color and connection to our families that we had found in Ireland and Nantucket was our first choice by a landslide. Having grown up on the island, Michael spent months telling me what a beautiful and special place it is when we first started dating. I was immediately hooked on my first trip there to visit his family. The friendly people, pristine beaches and dramatic bluffs reminded me so much of Ireland. We knew it was the perfect spot to celebrate our wedding with our family and friends who were traveling in from Boston, New York, Houston, San Francisco, England, Hong Kong and Italy. In keeping with the spirit of travel, we were drawn to the vintage postcard save-the-dates from Lucky Luxe. We had ours made with the image of the Sankaty Lighthouse as we thought it would be a fun way to invite everyone up to the island to celebrate.

Having our ceremony and reception at the ‘Sconset Chapel and Sankaty Head Golf Club in ‘Sconset were two relatively easy decisions as they not only provided the perfect settings but were two spots that complemented the laid back but elegant feel we wanted our wedding to have. Our mass was officiated by Father Tueth, S.J. a Jesuit priest and professor at Fordham. Though neither Michael nor I had Father Tueth as a professor, he is a beloved fixture on campus and someone we knew we wanted to be part of our big day. He brought a lot of humor to the mass and reception and we were so fortunate to have him. At the reception, we wanted our wedding guests to enjoy the beautiful sunset and local seafood samplings from Spanky’s Raw Bar (a Nantucket staple) and then head inside for a fun party.

We were so lucky to work with our amazing vendors who are all Nantucket locals and know the island inside out. Jodi’s Cakes made our beautiful Sankaty Head Lighthouse cake, the lighthouse that can be seen from the venue. Flowers on Chestnut put together the most beautiful arrangements of colorful wildflowers that popped against the navy blue bridesmaid dresses and lit up the interior of Sankaty without taking away from the views the venue provided. Zofia and Brian from Zofia & Co. Photography were so amazing to work with and we are so happy with the photos they took for us. The images captured the feel of the day and they knew all the right spots to photograph us in ‘Sconset. Zofia even found a dahlia bush that was in bloom with the same deep pink dahlias that were in my bouquet.

A family friend of Micheal’s chauffeured us in his ’54 Ford. Driving with him, my dad and two sisters to the ceremony helped relax any pre-wedding nerves as he made it such a fun, relaxed and unique experience. My ‘something borrowed’ was my mom’s pearl bracelet and my aunt’s platinum set pave diamond four leaf clover earrings from 1920, yet another nod to our Irish heritage. My seamstress sewed my ‘something blue’ wedding label into the inside of my dress that had been given to me by one of my oldest friends & bridesmaid. Michael, who spent time riding cross country on his motorcycle with his best friend in college, wore antique motorcycle cufflinks I had gotten for him at The Missing Link in NYC. For our smallest guests, we outfitted my nephews in Nantucket reds and navy blue striped bow-ties that matched the ribbons in our bridesmaid’s bouquets. They were dancing all night long to music from ECliff and the Swingdogs.

We spent our honeymoon in Italy, where Michael’s side of the family is from and we wish we could do it all over again!

From Sweet Monday PhotographyKarin Tanabe and Craig Fischer were married at The Mount, Edith Wharton’s estate in the Berkshires this past October. Karin is a novelist herself, and it meant a great deal to her to get married someplace with such literary history. She wanted a wedding that felt personal and that she crafted herself (she taught herself calligraphy so that she could address all her invitations and paper goods for the wedding), but without the typical DIY feel and we think she pulled it off beautifully. The wedding was pure elegance and so fitting for the gorgeous venue.

From Saphire Event GroupSurrounded by family and friends, high school sweethearts Nicole and Greg exchanged vows during a traditional catholic mass at St. Mary’s in Foxborough, MA. The newly married couple arrived to their Saphire Estate reception in a stunning 1937 Cadillac that perfectly complimented the brides shimmering Lazaro gown. The gorgeous sun-filled spring day provided the perfect backdrop for stunning photos along picturesque Lake Massapoag and throughout the lush Saphire Estate gardens. A colorful palette of blue and green with touches of pink filled the ballroom. The couple’s main focus for their reception was having stations their guests would enjoy, including a photo booth, cannoli dessert station and a cigar roller with custom cigar bands designed by Greg’s dad. The signature drink, pear vodka with St. Germain and champagne, was selected by guests at Nicole and Greg’s engagement party. From the newlywed’s first dance to Sam Smith’s “Lay Me Down” to end of the night dance-offs, the event was truly a night to remember.

The city has a quaintness and an all around love that is irresistible. So when our friends at Hyatt Regency Boston sent over this modern affair filled to the brim with love, sweeping views of my favorite city and a beautifully smiling Bride and Groom, I couldn’t help but pore over the lovely imagery from April K Photography. From the beautiful Bride… After Mike and I got engaged, I had some ideas on how I wanted the wedding to be. I explored the internet and magazines, but found it to be some what overwhelming. With a budget in mind, I read many reviews about different vendors and interviewed my top picks.

Boston has so many beautiful places to get married at, but our main problem was space, we needed a place that had a potential of holding over 300 people. Hyatt Regency Boston had everything we wanted; they newly renovated the ballroom and lobby area, had a beautiful terrace, price wise was the best out of all of the hotels we looked at, and the wedding coordinator (Christine) was absolutely fabulous. Christine guided us and kept us on track with the planning.

We weren’t sure if we wanted to stay “traditional” and see each other for the first time at the church or during the “First Look.” Since we didn’t have a lot of time between the church ceremony and cocktail hour we decided to have a First Look in the Public Gardens. It was such a beautiful sunny day in the Public Gardens, although it was packed with many visitors, they were kind enough to let us have our First Look on the bridge. I am so glad we did this because we were able to mingle with our guests during the cocktail hour.

From the moment I met April, from April K Photography, I knew she was the perfect match and had to be our photographer. Mike and I don’t like having our picture taken, but April made us feel so comfortable in front of the camera. April was very passionate about her work, had great energy and an endless imagination. She was able to capture all of great moments from the wedding; I am still in awe with all of our wedding pictures!

I had no idea about flowers besides my favorite flower being Peonies, but since my wedding was in August, I was not able to have Peonies. Greg from Flou(-e)r was fantastic. He went through every single flower that was available in August to find me the perfect combinations for my bouquets and centerpieces. He had patience with me especially when I was unsure of which flowers to pick and didn’t mind when I changed the flower combinations several times. The flowers in the bouquets, boutonnières and centerpieces were bursting with the most perfect looking flowers and absolutely beautiful.

Our DJ, Peter from Groove Entertainment, was awesome and so easy to work with from the moment we hired him. He played all of the music we wanted and stayed clear of the songs/genre we didn’t like. Peter was very energetic, got everyone on their feet dancing and kept the party going all night.

I wanted to get Mike the best groom’s gift. Mike being a HUGE Bruins hockey fan, I knew I had to get Rene Rancourt to surprise him at the wedding. No one knew about the surprise besides my parents, brother, Christine and Peter. Peter was so excited to introduce Rene. He had everyone on their feet with their hands over their heart, told Mike that he liked his Bruins cufflinks that I got him (Mike was confused because he didn’t show them to Peter) and introduced Rene Rancourt. The room went crazy! Mike was ecstatic (and the guest also!). Rene Rancourt stayed for a while and was available to have his picture taken showing off the 2011 Bruins Stanley Cup Championship Ring.

After Mike’s surprise, my parents surprised us with a Lion Dance. The lion dance is usually performed on special occasions. The dance scares away evil spirits and brings happiness, longevity, and good luck.

Our vendors played such a huge part in our wedding day and to this day, we still stay in touch with a few of them. Mike and I are so happy with the way our wedding turned out. We wanted our guest to have a blast and we think we accomplished it!

From The Bride…Sandy is originally from Baltimore and I’m from Beverly, Massachusetts. We met in Brooklyn, while he was in grad school for architecture and I was making my first music videos (I’m a filmmaker). But we bonded on a rock-climbing trip with mutual friends: playing new music for each other, singing and car-dancing the whole ride. We began dating and eventually moved to Los Angeles together, where we currently live.

We decided to have our wedding at my parents house in Beverly, MA, which is a really unique historic house. Planning the wedding, our focus was on having an epic dance party with amazing music which celebrated our two big families. We were married at Manchester First Parish church, which has great acoustics and a beautiful room-shaking organ. My talented sister Kat and bridesmaid Kelly, a bluegrass musician, sang a beautiful acoustic version of an Adele song, and Sandy’s cousin played Spanish Guitar. In addition, the Beverly High School Vocal Ensemble sang three beautiful acapella songs, including “In “Do you Realize” by the Flaming Lips. I still can’t believe that actually happened. The choral director Lyn is now my personal hero.

For the reception, we hired “Madhouse,” a soulful mo-town band that kept us dancing all night. My sister and Kelly both sang with the band for different songs: Kelly did a beautiful slow-dance version of “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” for our first dance, and everyone began singing along. It was a moment. Kat made a hilarious vampy entrance from a balcony, singing “Love me Like a Man,” which pretty much brought down the house with the help of a family friend Gabe on saxophone. We gave all the guests mix-CDs as party favors, which included songs from that fateful rock-climbing road trip. For the decor, we never really had a strict color scheme, just black bridesmaid dresses with gorgeous colorful flower arrangements by Chapmans florist. This included a flower crown, which we paired with a beautiful veil sewn by my Aunt Priscilla. My parents Jen and Gary and my mother’s friends, “The Design Team,” as we called them, all pitched in to decorate the tent with candles and borrowed chandeliers. In addition, Sandy’s parents threw an amazing Rehearsal Dinner the night before, with decor provided by Sandy’s Aunts and Uncles.

The best part of our wedding was bringing together so many wonderful, fun-loving people. The energy in the room was pumping with love and excitement and we danced long after the band stopped. It was such a whirlwind, we are so happy Daniel was there to beautifully capture this phenomenal experience.
