Lolagrace sounds like the perfect event planner! I am definitely not a traditional bride from my ring, to doing away with a lot of traditions (I refuse to register for gifts - but guest can donate to the 2 charities closest to our hearts). The day is just about having fun and sharing our love and happiness with those we are closest to. You don't have to adhere to stuffy traditions for it to be a wonderful wedding.
Lolagrace sounds like an answered prayer! We are definitely not your traditional couple--at least not by the current American standards, We're all about taking traditions that are close to our hearts (an observantly Jewish wedding contract, dancing our tucheses off, having an amazing sit-down meal, celebrating for seven days) and tweaking them to fit our odd, lovely selves--having my mother adorn the wedding contract with wild abstract watercolors, having a dance-party on a Thursday night where all our musician friends perform, having a pot-luck meal, doing tour of all our favorit restaurants and picnic spots with our friends in the week after the wedding...We so don't want to get caught up in the wedding-industry pull to spend tons of money on engraved cake knives and pink tulle. We dream of action figures and a small plastic puma as our cake-toppers and chile ristras hanging everywhere. We just want a beautiful party that's very US to thank our families and community for bringing us together.
I got married a few months ago and I was the totally typical bride (and can't wait to submit my wedding pics to SMP!) But my best friend in the whole world, Eliane, is not the typical bride. She can't even decide on what kind of ring she would want her boyfriend to give her because everything looks too "bride-y". Additionally, she's daunted by the idea of doing this wedding on a small budget because everything seems to cost an arm and a leg. I hate that I'm not in Boston to be an extra set of hands and help her out, so it would me so much if we could win this!
