Massachusetts Farm Wedding by Ashley O’Dell

August 4th. 2010 by Erin | Filed Under | 26 comments

There are those weddings that we love and then there are the ones that we go bananas for and this is definitely one of those banana weddings. It is the perfect combination of laid back charm and romance and can we please talk about the groom’s shoes? Well done sir. Ashley O’Dell was the woman behind the camera and captured this lovely Massachusetts affair to perfection. Between the beautiful farm setting, the gorgeous couple, the unique, hand-crafted details, and the interpretive first dance, seriously…what is not to love? And don’t forget, the gallery has even more images for you to pour over.

see all the pretty details here!

Melissa and Danny live in New York, but came up to Massachusetts to host their incredible wedding on Danny’s family farm in Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts on July 24, 2010. They also had the best first dance I have ever seen. Both being involved in theatre, a choreographer friend helped them put something together, and it really paid off! It was a lovely performance, opposed to the first dance waddle, as I like to call it. The bridesmaid dresses were also custom designed for each woman, to match their own style and personality.

You’ll also notice they had a logo of sorts printed on their cocktail napkins, this is the proposal image of the two of them, as Danny played “Feels Like Home” by Randy Newman on the ukulele.

Anyone know where the bridesmaids dresses are from? I'm specifically interested in the one that is second from the left and the first one on the right. Thanks!

  3. Ashley O'Dell says:

    Hi Beth,

They were custom designed and created for each woman by an acquaintance of the bride.

  4. Heidi says:

I am in the same position Beth. I am looking for bridesmaid dresses similar to the ones above! I would love to know where I could find something similar

  5. Julie Cofield says:

Beautiful! Could you please tell me where you got your cake topper?

  6. That is the CUTEST ring shot idea ever! Love this wedding :)

  7. Lesley says:

The bridesmaids dresses are beautiful, one of a kind, I love each one! And the programs, cocktail cards & menu cards are amazing!!!

  8. Amy says:

Love the bride's dress! What is the name of it so I can stalk it on Amsale's site?

  9. Allie says:

The dress looks beautiful and this looks like an amazing wedding. I actually purchased the same dress for my wedding next July. It is Christos - Desiree. I love the hangover kits. Was that a DIY or is there someplace I could purchase those?

  10. Olivia Soren says:

I love that she let her bridesmaids wear different dresses!

  11. Erin says:

The beautiful bridesmaid dresses were handmade by NYC designer Jill Lapping. Her sister Annie Lapping was responsible for the invitations and menu/table cards. To contact them about a quote for custom dresses/invitations email Jill @ jilllapping@gmail.com. You won't be disappointed!

  12. Those are some incredible views. I love that the bridesmaid’s dresses were original to each of the ladies personalities. To me it seems that the dresses always look better on the bridesmaids that way. Way to go Danny with your footwear. Congratulations to you both!

  13. Melissa says:

    Hi, all!

Bride here. Thanks for all the lovely comments!!

First of all, I just want to say that Ashley O'Dell is absolutely the greatest. I feel she completely captured the feel of all the festivities...yet we barely saw her running around....except for the group photo time...where she wrangled everyone together with grace and efficiency. And you can obviously see how beautiful her pics are.

And Erin is correct - Jill and her sister, Annie, are fabulous young designers who are starting up their own wedding business. They were both such a pleasure to collaborate with and made sure to work with us until the final product was polished and exactly what were wanting....oh and Jill made the flower girl dresses too!

The cake topper was custom made by Sarah Neuburger at www.thesmallobject.com. And Rachel at www.benignobjects.com designed the hangover kits and our cds (we put them in all of our gift bags).

And, Allie, that's the dress! You're going to love wearing it! It's really fun to dance in!!

  14. Lisa says:

Pore over - to look over.

  15. kimberly says:

The bridesmaids look like a rock band CD cover... such great dresses! :) I love this, and what a fun looking couple, everything looked beautiful! Lovely, lovely. Congratulations Melissa and husband ^_^

  16. timmi says:

can you tell me where the oh-so-cute napkins are from? bridesmaids dresses are gorgeous.

  17. Melissa says:

Timmi, are you referring to the cocktail napkins? Or the dinner napkins?

  18. jaime says:

I would love to know where the cocktail napkins (with the silhouettes) are from!

  19. Danny says:

    Hi All, Groom here.

The cocktail napkins were done by The Blue Heron - we sent them the image (a silhouette made from a photo of the proposal) and then they made the napkins. I'm sure there are a million online services that would customize cocktail napkins. If I remember correctly, it wasn't too much more than plain napkins. We have friends who had 3 or 4 of the first emails they sent to each other on the napkins, so you could collect the whole set!

So glad you guys all like our wedding so much. It was the most fun day ever.

    Danny

  20. aburton425 says:

Those cocktail napkins are great! When you say they came from the picture of the proposal, do you mean your own? (May come off as a silly question, but I wasn't sure from what you wrote.) Any interest in allowing others to use it on a napkin too?

  21. Christine says:

Does anyone know if the bride added a small train to her dress? I love this Christos dress and it's one of my top picks, but my mom is certain that this bride added a train to the dress. I did try the dress on there wasn't the length of train when I tried the dress on as seen on this bride.

  22. Danny says:

The image is actually a silhouette of our proposal made for us by a friend. Sorry, it's not available for others - though it's pretty simple to do if you have a photo of yourselves... And Christine, I don't believe that the bride added anything to the dress. I think it was worn as sold.

  23. Melissa says:

Hey Christine, in case you still get this....I bought the dress with extra length and then had them take up the front...

  24. Jen says:

Hi - Any chance the family farm is up for doing other weddings? I trying to find a spot exactly like this in the same area.

  25. Hi! I had the same question as Jen--I am trying to find a spot that's just like that--I grew up in the mountains, and we want to get married in MA, but I can't imagine not having the mountains around us at our ceremony. Any chance your family would be up for another party, Danny?
