From the beautiful Bride… I moved to Dallas from New York in 2009 and we both worked at JP Morgan, but we worked in different divisions and didn’t know each other. We met three years later and discovered that we had several mutual friends and knew all of the same former colleagues. We dated for several months, but our work schedules were so radically different that we didn’t have time to see each other and ultimately decided that it wouldn’t work. Several months later, I changed jobs and fate brought us back together. We literally bumped into each other on the street one Sunday afternoon in the winter of 2013 and knew that we had to try again. We went to dinner the following week and were both lamenting about the fact that neither one of us had time to ski much that season. That Friday morning Brad called to tell me it was dumping powder in Taos and we needed to chase the storm. Three hours later we were at the airport. The rest is history.

We both share a passion for the outdoors and adventure, which was one of the major qualities we liked about each other. Skiing is our favorite activity. I grew up in Michigan skiing every weekend, and Brad spent summers at Mt. Hood race camps. When we started dating, we were each so excited to finally have a partner in crime and began chasing powder together – literally booking trips on Friday mornings during ski season and leaving work hours later to find the freshest snow. Brad proposed on top of the mountain in Vail last winter, and we knew we had to incorporate the mountains into our wedding. Jackson Hole is our favorite ski town so it was an easy choice!

The weather was critical for us because the whole reason we were in Jackson Hole was to share the beauty of the mountains with our friends and family, but unfortunately it was cold and rainy all week. We chartered a rafting trip for all of the guests and could not cancel, so we made everyone raft the Snake River in 48 degree weather in the pouring rain. Even with the rain everyone thought it was really fun and of course memorable. Our wedding day was the first day all week that you could see the mountains and the clouds parted dramatically right before our ceremony. In the end we were so thankful for the weather because it created the most beautiful lighting and backdrop for photos.

From the handsome Groom… The reception featured elk and trout as local fare and had a whiskey and rye bar, but the big hit of the cuisine was a key lime pie that was served in lieu of the customary wedding cake. I’m a key lime pie connoisseur and thoroughly approved. We also had custom suits from D. Jones made which made the wedding extra special for the groomsmen. Whiskey, elk, key lime pie and Phil Round in the shadow of the Tetons sky is pretty hard to beat.

From The Bride… Mountain towns and skiing have always held a special place in our hearts. Shortly after learning to walk, Nick and I both learned to ski. What united us after our graduation from Vanderbilt University was our career goals in medicine, our love of the outdoors, and of course our love of skiing. In early spring of 2011, Nick proposed while skiing at Beaver Creek Mountain with photographers in tow. This location was carefully chosen, as it is where I learned to ski. With this epic proposal, I knew that we would have to wed amidst the beauty of the mountains. Nick’s grandparents’ home in Jackson Hole, a destination where he skied as a child, provided the most incredible backdrop for our rustic and elegant wedding. Instead of fine paper invitations it was wood thanks to the design of Chick Invitations, instead of a ballroom it was a finished barn and a tent among the Tetons, instead of table numbers it was ski trails, and instead of crystal glassware it was ski boot shot glasses. Growing up, my mom and I used to say that my style was Shabby Chic. I wanted my wedding to portray this style, polished yet rustic.

Most of our guests were traveling from the East Coast, so we decided to make their long journey memorable. The weekend started with a cowboy themed welcome dinner at the Four Seasons and welcome bags put together by Jackson Hole Marketplace which included locally sourced items; huckleberry jam, buffalo jerky, and Kate’s Tram Bars Friday night, the rehearsal dinner was held at the Couloir. At the top of the Gondola, the views are unparalleled and the food was just divine. We envisioned our wedding day as one full of family and friends, a mountain backdrop, sunshine, colorful florals, plenty of libations, and an energetic band. We danced until we dropped and all aspects far exceeded our expectations and our day was absolutely magical.

The most memorable moment of our beautiful day was seeing Nick for the first time as I walked down the aisle. I had kept all of the details of my dress, veil, hair, and makeup a secret. His face was truly priceless and I am so lucky that my amazing photographer captured this moment.

We danced to Nizlopi’s “Love Is”. When Nick and I first started dating we were obsessed with this British band and would listen to their CD on repeat for hours. Although it is a song that not many people know, it held a lot of meaning for the two of us.

The menu featured Grilled Flat Iron Steak, Mashed Potatoes, Haricot Vert, Tarragon Chimichurrin paired with Seared Steel Head Trout with Chipotle Corn and Napa Cabbage Veegetable Slaw. Probably the biggest hit from the evening was the Pig Candy – a Bistro Catering secret: spicy candied bacon. Our friends are STILL talking about this and the band, Party Crashers. For any party in the west, Party Crashers knows how to make everyone put on their dancing shoes and sing their hearts out. What we wanted was an epic evening in a magnificent place-we truly couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day and are so thankful to all of our vendors, friends, and family for making our day perfect.

Rustic Moose Head Ranch Wedding

I’ve swooned my fair share of rustic nuptials, but to be totally honest? This is probably my new fave. It’s the wedding that lets the stunning landscape do all the talking, with a few well-edited nods of color and style infused along the way. Of course, the straight-from-a-magazine images by Carrie Patterson only add to my obsession and if you’re looking for more, you can find it right here.

From the Bride…

What was your “perfect wedding” vision?

Outdoor wedding with a rustic feel. We love nature and the outdoors and wanted to share that love with our friends and family. We also wanted to have a fun and casual environment for our guests where they felt like they were as much a part of the wedding as we were.

What are three unique details that you infused into your decor?

Well first and foremost, the entire backdrop of our wedding (the Grand Tetons) is where we got engaged (we got engaged on top of the Grand Teton), so that was important to us. We loved the idea of having a table as our “alter” and having items placed on it that are important to our heritage – Bible passed down from great ancestors and a Ganesh (Hindu god).

What was your most memorable moment?

Our ceremony. Our siblings were our officiants and our ceremony was comprised of friends and family reading poems and passages that we love. We also had a good friend sing “this must be the place” by the talking heads that was fantastic. It was sunny, there was a great breeze and seeing our friends and family sitting before us, having our siblings at our side and friends and family come up and read and hug us throughout the ceremony was amazing.

What song did you do your first dance to?

Scarlet Begonias by the Grateful Dead – totally nontraditional but a blast to dance to and a meaningful song for us.

What was on your menu?

Bison! We also had a million appetizers because our cocktail “hour” was two hours long. We also served pie instead of cake

What – if anything – did you DIY?

My girlfriends created a collage of old photos of Viraj and I together and of us growing up that we displayed at our “dinner the night before”. We also created programs with all of the readings from our ceremony with recycled paper on the outside. Other than that I completely trusted our wedding planner and florist!
