Elegant Tented Lake Wedding

Just like the stunning Bride, having grown up on a lake during my childhood summers, this wedding from Jessica Hendrix is tugging at my heartstrings. I can almost smell the fresh country air and feel the breeze flowing through the Sperry Tent. With Main Street Fine Catering behind the exceptional catering and unbelievable cake, I’m betting this little shindig will wow you after just one peek.

From the beautiful Bride… We knew right away that we wanted to be married on my parents estate where I had grown up and where, my now husband and I, live very close to. We wanted this day to be very special and elegant, but comfortable. I was very clear from the start as to the look and feel I was going for; elegant country. I can honestly say I would not have changed one vendor or one detail.

For our wedding, all of our vendors were incredible. We decided to have a Sperry Tent to hold the reception—what a beautiful, grand tent! The ceremony was in the garden in front of the 5 acre lake which was set a golden glow as the sun sat in fall late afternoon sky. Kim Haggerty of the Pod Shop in New Hope, PA did such an incredible job capturing the elegant, but organic arrangements which contained French country roses, fruit and willow branches. She saw my ideas through perfectly and also made wonderful suggestions which we included. We chose peaches, greens and some deeper purples for our flower colors. The property and tables were set a twinkle with tons of candles and votives as well. Main Street Catering also was hands down the best decision for our celebration. Christopher and I love local, clean, seasonal food with an Asian flare—they offered such delicious, beautiful food—it was really quite overwhelming. Their service staff and on site coordinator were professional, fun and very accommodating. They took care of everything from the rentals, the bar, and of course, the food.

We chose a 7 piece band for the reception, a jazz trio for cocktails and an acoustic guitar for the ceremony. Franklin and Alison Orchestra provided all music equipment, musicians, and set up. From our engagement to our wedding, Jessica Hendrix took the most wonderful photographs. She captured so many wonderful moments with such a talented eye for composition and content. Our photographs were given to us in a very timely manner and we used her to make prints, which were gorgeous quality.

Some of the other vendors with smaller roles, but no less important, nor impressive were: Bijiou Bridal on the Main Line for my wedding dress and my maid of honors dress, The Paper Unicorn in Doylestown PA for beautifully printed announcements, invitations, and table numbers and cards, Craig of AKA Salon in New Hope for hair and makeup, Phillips Fine Wines for alcohol, and we used Mercer Museum tiles, in Doylestown, for our guest favors—small handmade ceramic acorns.

All in all it was, truly, the best day of our lives. My husband and I feel so blessed to have such amazing, loving friends and family to celebrate this day with us. Every single person involved in this day made it special. We had so much fun. We danced, ate, drank and started this new chapter of our lives together with such gusto! I feel so lucky to wake up everyday next to my husband who I just adore, with memories of a wedding I just adored.

Rustic Holly Hedge Wedding

From the moment the guests laid eyes on the beautiful invitation suite from Bella Figura, they knew they were in for something special. And something special it was, based on the images from Alison Conklin Photography. Black tie but with a hint of classy boho, rustic but fresh, this wedding was superb.

You definitely won’t want to miss this video from Tweed Weddings – it’s beautiful!

From the stunning bride… Having grown up just 10 miles down the river in New Hope, Pennsylvania, I couldn’t believe that I wasn’t familiar with Holly Hedge Estate until Ryan and I got engaged – but when we visited from New York City one night, we quickly decided that it was the only venue we needed to see. It is quintessential Bucks County with its rustic stonewalled barn, English courtyard and 15-room bed & breakfast nestled on more than 20 acres of beautiful property. The grounds provided the perfect backdrop for our intimate celebration with nearly 200 of our closest friends and family. For the outdoor ceremony and bouquets, I wanted flowers that would complement the nature surrounding us, so I opted for an assortment of whites and creams with brunia berry, thistle and succulents. For the inside reception, we added touches of dusty rose with mercury glass and wood elements, as well as globe string lights that cast a romantic glow over the dance floor. One of both Ryan and my favorite parts of the planning process was choosing the music. We hired the Philadelphia String Quartet for the ceremony, a 12-piece band for the reception and asked our family friends to sing a duet between readings (they killed it). My niece and nephew served as our flower girl and ring bearer and both wore silk outfits handmade by my sister-in-law, who also sewed us a special monogrammed ring pillow. I had our florist design matching baby’s breath crowns for me and my niece, which I put on for some of our photos. Otherwise, I kept my hair and jewelry simple, wearing diamond studs that were a wedding day gift from Ryan.

We decided to get married over Labor Day Weekend (one of the few available fall dates), thinking that the extra day off would be nice for our family members coming in from California and Charlotte, NC. The time of year also marked eight years since Ryan and I met in college at Virginia Tech. Unfortunately, September first had to be the hottest, most humid day of the year, and it poured rain the entire morning – but I say that it must’ve been my late grandma looking down on us when a ray of sunlight lit the walkway of our ceremony. After we said our vows, Ryan and I headed down the aisle as husband and wife to Jack Johnson’s “Better Together.” The courtyard quickly transitioned to cocktail hour, where we served mason jars of Dark & Stormys (the irony of the day’s weather forecast was not lost on us). This is our go-to drink in Nantucket, which is where we got engaged on a sailboat on the 4th of July. We used a photo of us right before Ryan proposed for our “guest book,” which was a wooden puzzle with enough pieces for all of our guests to sign. I don’t think our friends or family left the dance floor the entire night, except to enjoy dinner while our band entertained with Frank Sinatra and Andrea Bocelli ballads. We provided buckets of flip flops for tired feet and as favors, encouraged guests to “Take Home a Taste of New Hope” with a custom box of truffles from our family’s favorite local chocolate shop. At the after party back in the barn, we served Philly soft pretzels and cheesesteaks and continued celebrating into the morning hours. Way too many soft pretzels and cheesesteaks later, we retreated to the bed & breakfast with our bridal party. Ryan and I were the last two standing that night.

Wrap It Up Pretty + A Winner!

Drop dead gorgeous weddings, stunning inspiration and the debut of SMP at Home.  Yep, it’s been a pretty fabulous week here on SMP.  So fabulous, in fact, that we couldn’t possibly bid adieu without adding just a little more spice to your weekend festivities.  I’m talking the crazy beautiful stylings of Pretty Little Details and fab photos from Sarah Postma Photography - all coming together in a neon inspiration shoot that is oh-so-perfect for your upcoming nuptials OR that summer party.  So, join us in the gallery for all of the pretty – and then we’ll see you back here on Sunday morning! xoxo

From Pretty Little DetailsThe concept for this styled shoot was a combination of our love for creative event spaces and color. For a while, we had been brainstorming ideas about developing a chic summer shoot that highlighted the latest color trend: neon. Because neon can be an intimidating color palette, we decided to pair it with gray and white to create a balance. Our combined colors ended up being a perfect fit for the venue we selected, a Philadelphia-area brewery with an industrial feel. We then reached out to other vendors to help create our vision.

For the shoot, we recreated a wedding reception from start to finish, featuring three settings: cocktail hour, dinner and dessert! The first was our “Snack Bar” for cocktail hour, which featured beer bottle escort hang tags, gourmet bar snacks, a vintage scooter and wagon and a bucket of beers with custom labels. The tablescape featured bright, floral arrangements from Roberts Florals, a neon backdrop, colorblocked plates, a neon scarf runner, a chalkboard table number and menu and steel chairs with a neon heart garland. Dani of Sweet Dani B jumped on board to design a custom “Neon Sweets Table” and matching invitation. Teaming up with Carrie of Goodie Box Bake Shop, this adorable dessert buffet featured a delicious wedding cupcake tower set atop a beer barrel, a pink and yellow heart garland backdrop, neon cake pops, a beer and cookie pairing, and marshmallow topped beer mug cookie favors. Dani also created a custom invitation, which was designed to look like a beverage coaster. The element that tied all the settings together? A shiny, bright, neon heart!

The bride and groom, Sorya and John, are a real life couple getting married in 2013. They are so cute together, and their personalities fit the photo shoot perfectly! The bride’s dress was from H&M, but the look was all about her accessories — from the neon heels and jewelry to the unique bouquet! John’s laid back look featured a shirt from Express, a neon pocket square and neon shoelaces. We are so happy with how the shoot came together and it would not have been possible without the help of all the wonderful vendors. Cheers to love!
