Vintage Valentines Bridal Inspiration

Valentine’s Day is my favorite holiday and it has been, even long before I was engaged or dating. I adore the idea of spreading love, romantic and platonic, to everyone. This shoot, styled by Ponderosa & Thyme, inspired by the love between sisters, comes at the perfect time, and as we dive into the sweet weekend ahead, these gorgeous photos by Hurtienne Photography are putting me in the loveliest of moods.

From Hurtienne Photography… With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, my sweet friends and I decided to put together a vintage inspired bridal shoot. We drew our inspiration from an image of Jane and Elizabeth Bennet from Pride and Prejudice. We used that inspiration to create a story of two sisters helping their oldest sister prepare for her wedding day.

From Katie Davis, Owner of Ponderosa & Thyme… I love the idea of mixing traditional flowers with my own style so I decided to try to re-think the classic red rose by mixing them with blue hyacinth, navy anemones, pink garden roses and silvery blue greenery. This created a simple, nostalgic, and gorgeously scented bridal bouquet to be adored by a vintage loving bride.

From Rodellee Bas, Owner of Adored Vintage… The wardrobe from Adored Vintage was inspired by the age old English rhyme for brides: “Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue, a Sixpence in Her Shoe.”

In keeping with the theme and sentiment of this charming wedding poem, we’ve opted for delicate petticoats, lace and crochet detailed antique tops, and wispy soft peignoirs. A touch of French blue ribbon accents an antique camisole from the 1920s and a bridesmaid wears an embroidered tiered 1950s dress of pale lake blue, perhaps borrowed from an aunt.

We hope to inspire the modern bride to consider a vintage or antique piece for her wedding trousseau, perhaps a silken cape from the 1930s or a demure slip with lace panels and accordion pleats. This garment could become her heirloom piece, a treasure to pass down to her daughter, her “something old” and perhaps “something blue.”

From Katie Stewart, Owner of Peregrine Press… The author for the hand-written letter is Pablo Neruda, one of my most cherished poets. I helped style some still life scenes with collected vintage pieces of clothing, florals, and random old things that I collect too much of. I was especially happy with the old photo album we were able to use!

Whimsical Wedding Cake Inspiration

I seriously started salivating making this post. There are a lot of cakes, and yes, all cakes look delicious. But this is sugar-confected art here, folks. The people at Country Cake Shop in Salem, Oregon are masters of all trades too. Not only did they bake the cakes you see here, but they produced this whole shoot as well. So keep scrolling or head on over to the gallery for more fine-looking, fondant-focused inspiration.

From Country Cake ShopThese cakes were inspired by all the fir trees, bark and berries in the forests surrounding the Willamette Valley. Adding a little bit of sparkle and glamour that every girls loves, really brought these cakes to life. Each cake has gold tying them all together, whether it be the painted gold chevrons, gold leaf flecks or an entire tier wrapped in delicate gold leaf. Even the blackberries are handmade with sugar to resemble the Oregon blackberries that you find peaking around every corner and entwined on every fence.
