City to Country Photo Shoot by Maggie Harkov

Up next is a photo shoot captured by Maggie Harkov that is blurring the lines of your typical rustic shindig and proving that you can take the wedding out of the city but you can’t take the city out of the wedding. With sherbet hued florals by the lovely Blossom & Branch, a deliciously modern invitation suite by Seamless Paperie, loads of gorgeous confectionery treats courtesy of One Girl Cakes by Francina and an adorable horse that we just can’t seem to get enough of, this shoot is opening up a whole new chapter in the Book o’ Rustic. After all, who says you have to limit your city-infused festivities to the confines of a ballroom or fancy hotel? Try adding touches of modern glamour to more rustic surroundings for a fête that will knock your guests socks off. Modern Rustic, it’s a new category and we’re LOVING every second of it. You too? See it all here! And sit tight because coming up in a bit, we have a buying guide that’s breaking down all the pretty components one by one.

From Maggie HarkovAs lovers of both the fabulousness of New York City and the simplicity and warmth of the country, we set out to style a wedding inspired by the greatness of each.  We wanted the shoot to evoke the feeling of warmth and depth one can only experience in the country while being filled with chic and modern touches that only the city can bring.

Courtney of Seamless Paperie used bold black and white type to represent the city juxtaposed with orange tissue details and gingham pattern to bring in the country feel.  All the paper goods incorporated both city and country elements throughout all designs to create a modern yet warm feel.

Sarah of Blossom & Branch used bright, sorbet inspired colors to play off the organic, muted tones of the farm. The designs were kept modern and sleek and poppies, tulips, sweet peas, peonies, Star of Bethlehem, lamb’s ear, and bunny tail adorned the tables in silver “skyscraper” evocative containers to bring in subtle touches of New York City.

The bride wore a stunning feather cocktail dress that was the perfect balance of city in the country and finished off her look with black heels and fabulous modern accessories, all from Gabriella New York. The groom wore a modern bespoke suit from Duncan Quinn, and topped it off with a checkered grey bow-tie to bring the feel of the country back in.

Everything was aimed to have a certain warm sophistication, and the farm, horses, and modern touches all yielded what we found brought just a bit of the city into the country.

North Salem Wedding from Karen Hill Photography

Remember when you were little, you’d put on your mom’s veil and waltz around with your Ken doll to the gentle crooning of Sleeping Beauty? You’d imagine your perfect wedding day, with your best friends dressed in tutu’s all lined up sweetly behind you. Well this wedding, in my humble opinion, is the perfect grown up version of that childhood fairy tale. Karen Hill is the lady behind the lens for this New York wedding at the brides private family estate, and it has brought us back to a simpler, prettier (if you can believe it) time. We’re in love. Dance on over to the gallery when you’re done here!

From Karen Hill … Darlington Hall, set in a majestic park like setting, is the bride’s family’s country estate. For Olympia and John, it was clearly the perfect setting for their wedding. The grounds of Darlington Hall are magnificent. The entry gate, manicured gardens, pools, ponds and rolling hills all played a part in the splendor of this beautiful and memorable wedding landscape – one no one will soon forget.

Photographically, I covered their wedding in both film and digital. I love how each worked to capture the subtle nuances of place, light and how richly the images describe the day.

John taught me all about wines and we really fell in love on our first trip to Napa a few years ago; we have returned many times and love everything from the vineyards to the natural beauty of the scenery and the great food – and so it was natural that John proposed in Napa. He was supposed to propose at our favorite vineyard, Paul Hobbs, but apparently I was so impatient (I didn’t think he was going to propose) that he ended up proposing at our hotel. But it was still perfect! All the wine at our wedding was from Paul Hobbs which was special for us

We got married at my family’s summer house because we loved the idea of getting married at home. We felt it was the most personal place to have the wedding. We wanted something outside, in the gardens, with a summery feel to it so it was an easy choice!

We wanted simple elegance, light colors, everything that you think of when you think of warm summers. John is from England so we wanted to marry the best of both cultures. One of the first things my mom bought after our engagement were United Kingdom and United States flags to attach to our garden houses for the day of the wedding.
