This wedding is simply everything. Everything that makes my heart skip a beat about weddings – a gorgeous dress, a stunning venue, and an obvious love circling around the two tying the knot. It’s a labor of love I couldn’t love more, and it’s all captured beautifully the lovely Kari Herer. The result is pure perfection from start to finish, and you can get lost in all the lovely right here in the full gallery of images.
From the Bride… The lush landscape, the blue skies, the sprawling fields and the INSANE 360-degree views of the White Mountains at the Toad Hill Farm provided the perfect backdrop for our wedding celebration. My husband, Ben, and I had always envisioned getting married in the mountains, but this place just blew our expectations out of the water. We knew it would be a lot of work and mostly DIY, since Toad Hill is not your average reception hall, but we were up to the challenge. We also loved the idea that both our immediate families would be able to stay at the farm house for the whole weekend, creating a much more relaxed and comfortable environment.
The vision for our wedding was guided by the farm’s colors and beauty – we didn’t want anything to compete with nature. We kept the table and tent decorations soft and simple, with burlap and mercury glass accents, khaki and white linens, and amazing floral arrangements from a local flower farm. The focal point was the breathtaking view surrounding the tent – it literally felt like we had found a private oasis on top of the world.
We decided pretty early on in the process that we would do all the set-up and planning ourselves. Our immediate families and the 9 bridesmaids and 9 groomsmen all arrived at the farm on Thursday and everyone pitched in – unfolding and arranging the tables, laying the linens, folding napkins, arranging the candles, moving furniture, setting up the bar, picking up the kegs and ice, making gallons of margaritas, setting up the ceremony site, setting up the rehearsal dinner table, taking down the tent walls when the sun finally came out.…aside from installing the tent and catering the reception, we literally did EVERYTHING! I come from a big family (oldest of 5 kids) where a helping hand is never far, so I guess it’s just in my blood to roll up my sleeves and get things done. It required an amazing amount of organization, a lot of comic relief from our friends, and a lot of patience and reassurance from our families. I also have to give a special shout-out to my Dad, who did what he does best and made some of the seemingly impossible tasks come together flawlessly. Not sure how he did it, but that’s what Dads are for, right?
Our wedding was truly a labor of love, sweat, tears and laughs, all made possible by our amazing friends and families. And in the end, each of them took great pride in the event they helped put together – we still receive comments from them, saying how meaningful and special the weekend was. Thank you will never be enough to everyone who helped.
If Ben and I had to choose a few favorite moments from the day, they would be….the two of us setting up table runners alone in the tent at 4:30 AM – we laugh every time we think about it; the dragonfly that was quietly poised on the porch all morning while we were getting ready, assuring us that Ben’s mom was with us in spirit that day; the incredibly sweet blessings that our families, bridesmaids and groomsmen privately gave us during our Ketubah signing; looking out and seeing all our friends’ and families’ smiling faces during the ceremony; the heartfelt, hilarious and touching toasts during the reception; my dad and the band surprising me during our father-daughter dance when they broke into a loud and fast swing song after only 30 seconds of the planned song; sneaking away with our photographer, Kari (LOVE HER, she is amazing!), to catch the sunset, which gave us a few minutes alone to reflect on the amazing day so far; and finally, dancing our butts off til our feet were throbbing and the bottom of my dress was black.
It was a day we will never forget – we still can’t believe how beautifully everything came together and the amount of love and happiness that was overflowing from that tent. Our wedding was not just a celebration of our new life together, but also a testament to how incredible our friends and families are – the absolute BEST.
