Working at SMP means losing the ability to speak on a daily basis. Some of you might not know that, but it’s totally true. And although I’ve been known to be a bit wordy (ask my very patient friends or any member of my family), this sweet Sycamore soiree has left me at a serious loss for words. Maybe that’s because this is the kind of wedding that just tugs at your heart strings from the get-go with its beautiful nature-filled setting, DIY details and whimsical touches every which way you turn. It’s one magical moment after another captured by Hannah Persson Photo and you can see it all in the full gallery.

From Hannah Persson Photo… This wedding really tops the charts. The magic and prettiness that took place that day played out like a movie. Even though the bride and groom originally wanted to elope, they realized what would be even better was to have a great big celebration party of their marriage and their love with their friends and family, and they are so happy they did, looking back now. The details were made entirely by family and friends of the bride. Lots of careful planning and budgeting was the trick to this beautiful creation. The adjectives running through the bride’s mind throughout the planning process were ethereal, fun, whimsical, savage, and luxe– a lot to work with. The big white balloons at the reception had a sort of magical quality about them and created a super intimate evening. It took the bride’s brothers a couple hours to blow up the balloons and then hang them from the ceiling. The confetti pieces on each table added to the fun aspect, and who doesn’t love chalkboard? A trend that is sure to be around for awhile. The cupcakes were cute as can be, and helped draw in the color scheme which was blushes, lavenders, and pinks- so nice to not have to stick with just one color!
The bride and groom wanted to get married in the outdoors because nature is something very important to the bride – she wanted the ceremony to take place in the tall prairie grasses of her home state, Illinois – so the nice touch of the prairie grasses in the pink painted wine bottles at each table helped to bring the outdoors in. The cut-out paper letters on the wall are lyrics from the couple’s favorite Bob Dylan Song – they added a really beautiful graphic element to the venue design.
This couple is super quirky and unique, so photographing them was a real joy, and I’ve never seen anyone happier about getting married. The bride was going back and forth about changing her last name, ultimately deciding to wait awhile, so they will be holding a name changing celebration ceremony in the months to come. I can’t wait to be there for it.

From Kristin La Voie Photography… Chelsea and Dave chose the perfect location at Blumen Gardens for their intimate, slightly vintage, slightly DIY wedding. Two photographers, the couple chose perfect details to represent themselves with vintage cameras as centerpieces, custom labeled root beers, photos framed throughout the room, and lots of desserts and flowers. The most adorable children I’ve laid eyes on, Constance and Conley, acted as flower girl and ring bearer for their ecstatic parents. The day was filled with tons of love, lots of laughter, and a whole lot of pretty!

From the Bride… I knew right away that White Pines Wedding Canyon was where I wanted our ceremony to be. My family has been going to White Pines for years for our family reunions, and having such a life changing event there seemed right. I was lucky because Aaron loved it from the moment he saw it, and so it was set. It had every part of “outdoorsy” we were looking for. Blumen Gardens was a gem. All it took was one evening stroll through their gardens, all lit up and sparkling, to know it was the perfect place for our reception. The building had charm and personality, and the staff decorated so well for the season—pumpkins, scarecrows, leaves, and vintage signs that accompanied our fall wedding perfectly. We loved everything about it!
At our reception, we wanted to serve our guests a variety of fall treats, including apple cider from Jonamac Orchard (where where had our engagement photos taken). Our dessert table was exquisite. Laura from Swiss Made Bakery did such a wonderful job setting it up in a way that it blended with Blumen Gardens, and everyone in the family had plenty to take home and enjoy for a few weeks!
The rest of the wedding was in the details. From our owl cake toppers, handmade in Italy, complete with Aaron’s golf cap, to our taffy apples, to the wine cork name tags, to our memorial table where not a single special person was forgotten, we were truly blessed to have the wedding we did. Thanks Mom and Dad!

From Hannah of Hannah Persson Photo… A wintery lovebird-themed wedding at the magical Blumen Gardens in Sycamore, Illinois. This venue is becoming increasingly popular due to its hour drive from Chicago and its very reasonably priced accommodations — not to mention its quirky and fun edifices. It truly is a secret garden — there are so many nooks and crannies, and they let you wander anywhere you want for prime and unique picture-taking. The details stole the day. The table centerpieces were handcrafted. Before the wedding, the bride had a party, inviting all of her friends over to join in and help with the wedding craft-making. Each vase was wrapped in twine, and individual sticks were cut and glued onto each candle holder. The cupcake toppers were handmade to look like the bride and the groom. For the table favors, the bride fashioned birdseed into hearts using starch and water. On the backs of the cute scrap paper on the tables, the guests were instructed to give wedding advice that the bride would then string together as her guest book. The cupcakes were of all sorts and varieties — carrot, chocolate and white — and were made by a friend. The bride’s dress was purchased from BHLDN. The bridesmaids each purchased their own navy dresses, adding to the whimsical feel of the day. The flowers in the bridesmaids’ hair were made by a friend of the bride, who has a shop on Etsy. The photo booth was provided by Blumen Gardens. It was simply an adorable little overhang, and the bride picked her own props for it. All in all, it was a perfect day.
