When Christy Tyler Photography sent this pretty in pink soiree our way, we knew it was something special. Aside from our favorite hue, the day boasts a love that is the signature of every SMP wedding. Beautiful and warm, the love took center stage.
From the stunning bride… When Dan and I first started planning our wedding, we quickly figured out what was most important to us: to be surrounded by our family and friends and to be able to treat our guests to a memorable night. The first one was easy. Our wedding party included our siblings, brother and sister-in-laws, cousins, friends and Dans two nieces. Although it was the size of a small army, it was an amazing feeling to have such a special group of people standing by our sides on such an important day.
When we started looking for the perfect reception venue, one thing we knew was that we didn’t want our guests to have to travel too far from the ceremony to the reception. We would be married in my church so that definitely helped us narrow our search for a venue pretty easily. When we first walked in to Independence Grove, we knew that would be it. Not only was it a five-minute drive from the church, but it also had the elegant, comfortable feeling we were looking for.
After discovering that the floor to ceiling windows in the reception space would be lined with candles, the rest of our design elements really just fell in to place. We wanted a simple, yet romantic feeling so candles were going to be paramount and adding mercury glass to pick up the reflection of the candlelight was a no-brainer.
The florist created centerpieces that were chic and coordinated with all of our bouquets, and the bakery kept things simple with our four-tier stucco-style cake. Our guests raved about their meal and the flash mob our families coordinated was the perfect way to kick off our reception.
Our wedding day was more than we could have ever dreamed. It encompassed everything we were hoping for and was the perfect combination of elegance and fun (with a lot of emphasis on the fun!).

… Courtney and Mike were married on the most beautiful spring day at Independence Grove in Libertyville, Illinois. The trees, lake, and freshly blossomed flowers created a beautiful setting for the couple’s spirited celebration. Originally, the couple had planned for a church ceremony, but had difficulty finding an available church for a Sunday wedding. Instead, they decided to keep everything at Independence Grove and incorporate their religious values into the service there. It was a beautiful ceremony, full of happy tears. Cocktails were served outside on the veranda where guests could enjoy the weather and take in the gorgeous scenery. Courtney and Mike chose a crisp color scheme of peach and gray that perfectly accompanied the spring weather. Their decor was classic, simple and beautiful. The reception room featured floor-to-ceiling windows and filled the space with natural light. Courtney, Mike, and their friends and family could enjoy the views of the sunset from their seats. Guests danced the night away and enjoyed an array of wedding cake and sweet treats at their dessert bar. Courtney and Mike ended the night with a special sparkler send-off. It was a wonderful day!

… Taylor and Craig’s wedding was amazing to be a part of. I absolutely loved that they wanted to incorporate a classic, elegant feel with the brightness and light of summer. Taylor’s Oscar de la Renta gown was the perfect fit for this classic wedding, it was simple, flowing, and stunning. I also was in awe of the Hamilton pocket watch on Taylor’s bouquet that was a family heirloom. Her florals had a regal feel to them with the periwinkle, ivory, and light pinks. Taylor and Craig are genuinely in love, and that was the highlight of this wedding for us. There were tears of joy the whole day, and it was a pleasure to be a part of.
From the Bride… Craig and I first met in college. One of his friends was dating (and is now married) to one of my friends, so we hung out as a large group a lot. We clicked right away, but it wasn’t until after college, when we both moved to Chicago, that our relationship turned into something more. The friendship that we had built over the years turned into a love that I never expected, and can’t live without. It’s such a blessing to marry your best friend and I look forward to spending every day of the rest of my life with him!
Our wedding inspiration… Summer in the Chicago area is beautiful, so Craig and I knew right away that we wanted to get married outside, and the atmosphere at Independence Grove was perfect – natural with a bit of rustic elegance. I wanted our wedding to be colorful and summery and incorporate my favorite color, periwinkle. We were lucky enough to find bridesmaids dress in the perfect shade, and we worked from there, working in bright blue hydrangeas, deep pink dahlias and light and airy hues of pinks and greens with our flowers. We wanted our wedding to be elegance but fun and bright!
