Romantic Aspen Engagement Session

I was lucky enough to travel out to Colorado last year and the stunning views were so amazing they haven’t left my dreams yet. Tess Pace captured these and more, with this love soaked engagement shoot – complete with one colorful bouquet thanks to Bare Root Flora that I can’t stop staring at. See this and more right this way!

From Tess Pace PhotographySpend any amount of time with Erika and Karim and it’s easy to understand why people are drawn to them. Erika is full of life, love, and an infectious laugh that will light up a room. And Karim has a quick yet quiet wit, fun sense of humor, and big heart. Together, I know life will be one amazing adventure.

Aspen, Colorado, is where Erika and Karim call home and it was the perfect backdrop for this session. We started this glorious day atop Aspen Mountain, and from there, we hopped around to some of Erika and Karim’s favorite places, including the scenic Maroon Bells in the Elk Mountains.

These two are such a beautiful couple – inside and out – and their engagement session was a joy to photograph!!

From the beautiful Bride… Scott & I had a similar vision for our wedding from the start, one dictated by the beautiful place we were engaged & decided to get married, Aspen. With such a gorgeous location, we only wanted to highlight the scenery, not take away from it. Thus, with our amazing wedding planner, Heather Dwight of Calluna Events, we created a simple, classic, elegant & warm wedding that complimented the breathtaking scenery behind the patio at the St. Regis.

Given all of the rich colors of Aspen in early September – various shades of green with some golden tones hinting of Fall – we chose white as our wedding color. Not just a flat white, but all types of white & cream for texture & depth. My bridesmaids wore off-white, lace dresses, the tent for dinner was white, with white drapery & clear chandeliers, & our tablecloths were a cream taffeta. Our amazing flowers, provided by Aspen Branch, included orchids, hydrangea & ranunculus roses with green leaves, including Aspen leaves & Aspen branches. We could not have enough candles, placing them all over the dinner tables & inside the St. Regis where our band, The Hudson Project, played for 4 straight hours. Apparently, golden up-lighting in combination with natural candlelight guarantees that your guests will celebrate & dance until midnight.

Our talented photographer, Kate Holstein, and videographer, Forget Me Not Media, not only captured the day, but the mood, feel & ambience. Our photos and video are touching & beautiful.

Simply put, everything was perfect.

From the beautiful Bride… For most of my adolescence, I remember daydreaming about the man with whom I would fall in love with. How much of a fairytale it would be to spend everyday with someone who loves you just as much as you love them. Having someone to enjoy movies next to and a best friend to share inside jokes with.

Being a newlywed, all of these things are simply amazing. Although there is one thing that will always stand out and will never get old to me. Getting to say the word husband as often as I please.

I was just a 22-year-old girl, fresh out of college, and working for my dad. I had a great group of friends, wonderful and supportive family, and a fun job. I did not even feel like anything was missing. That was until I met Kyle. He is the most genuinely selfless, kind-hearted person I have ever met, and after the first moment we spent together, I knew I never wanted to go another day without him. The moment I saw him, I could picture him standing at the altar waiting for me on our wedding day. Fast-forward five years, and my dreams came true.

Since I was a little girl, I always knew that I wanted to get married on my dad’s ranch in Aspen, Colorado. I could not wait for June 14, 2014. My dad had been battling cancer the prior two years, and I felt like the luckiest girl in the world that he kicked it and was able to walk me down the aisle. I have never felt more beautiful and radiant than I did that day. I am so fortunate to have had my best friends and family there to support me. There are too many wonderful memories to highlight a favorite, but to sum it up, the whole day was pure magic.

From Bluebird ProductionsWe loved assisting Sage and Kyle with their romantic Aspen wedding. We began working with Sage shortly before her darling son, Brixton was born. She had always dreamed of the perfect fairytale romance and wedding. This day became a reality in June 2014 due to the collaboration of many vendors as we mixed a classic and traditional feel yet still appropriate to the outdoor and mountain locale. From an acrylic chuppah that allowed guests to see past the structure to the gorgeous mountains behind, a boxwood hedge covered with mirrors serving as an escort card “wall”, to a large tent full of soft and feminine details, each element of Sage’s wedding was crafted with guest experience and beauty in mind.

New Years Aspen Engagement Session

Surrounded by snow capped mountains and serious beauty, this perect pair rang in the New year newly engaged. And with Bluebird Productions coordinating every scene and Lane Dittoe behind the lens each and every image is frame-worthy, right here!

From Lane Dittoe… Alex and Jessie got engaged while skinning to the top of a mountain in Jessie’s hometown of Aspen in early 2014. Alex works in Aspen as a Deputy of Operations for the Sheriff’s department and Jessie works at the local hospital in Ultrasound. Soon after their engagement, Bluebird Productions and Lane Dittoe asked Alex and Jessie to be the subjects of a shoot based around the historical properties that make Aspen such a magical town. From the Holden Marolt mining museum up to the ghost town of Ashcroft, we highlighted some of the best locations in Aspen to capture the romanticism of times come and gone. Their love for one another in addition to the dreamy snowfall on that early April day, created the perfect recipe for inspiration in the mountains.

From the bride… Brandon and I met about 10 years ago on a tiny island in the Bahamas called Cat Cay. Our families often vacationed there but we’d didn’t cross paths until August 2003 when Brandon approached me in Bu’s Bar, the only bar on the island at the time. We decided to keep in touch and exchanged AIM screen names-yep this was even before Facebook days. We were both born and raised in Miami so over the years we ran into each other a few times but the timing never seemed right to start dating until August 25, 2008 when we finally had our first official date (once I was officially of age and single). Fast forward to November 26, 2011, Brandon asked me to marry him. Early on in our relationship we had taken several trips out to his family’s house in Aspen and fell in love with the town. Even though it was going to be tricky getting our guests there, we knew Aspen was the best choice for an unforgettable wedding. We still wanted to keep our roots close to us, so we decided to engrave Cat Cay’s coordinates inside our wedding rings to always keep that special place close to us. Planning a destination wedding while in law school was very tricky to say the least, but it felt so amazing to see how our family and friends reacted to Aspen once they arrived for the wedding weekend. Some of guests had only been to Aspen in the winter while most had never been there at all, so the beautiful setting blew them away. Brandon and I wanted an elegant yet warm and romantic wedding where our friends could enjoy sipping champagne by the fireplace. With that in mind, our colors naturally gravitated to soft golden and ivory colors with hints of deep red. The morning of my wedding I remember jumping out of bed and rushing towards the window to inspect the sky just above the mountain range for clouds. Many Aspen locals had told me about the regular Colorado afternoon showers during the summer and that was pretty much the only thing I was nervous about since the ceremony was outdoors at the top of Aspen Mountain. The local weather forecast, which I tried to avoid checking at all costs, also predicted rain on our wedding day. Our wedding began at 5 p.m. and for the first time in a week, the sun shone brightly all day. You can imagine how grateful we were! Once we arrived to the ceremony site, I was excited to have our violin quartet play several versions of modern songs like “Marry You” by Bruno Mars and the Postal Service’s “Such Great Heights” for our guests. Brandon even convinced me to have “The Final Countdown” violin piece play as he walked down the aisle — marriage is all about compromise right? Since Brandon is Jewish and I’m Catholic, the religious ceremony celebrated both of our religions and it was wonderful to see Rabbi Vardy blend our cultures in such a lovely way. After the ceremony, we descended back to downtown Aspen on the Silver Queen Gondola. This was one of our favorite moments because it gave us about 10 minutes of privacy after our ceremony to savor the beautiful afternoon light cast over the mountains just moments after becoming husband and wife. You could hardly ask for a more serene and romantic moment on such a whirlwind day.Once we arrived at the bottom, we nestled into a horse drawn carriage that whisked us away to the Hotel Jerome reception where our family and friends were waiting for us. One of my favorite moments was walking into the entrance of our cocktail hour and reception where you could see all the details come to life from the branch archway twinkling with lights to our wedding cake covered in ombre pink, red and purple calla lilies. We had decided to give our guests pine-scented candles as favors to remember Aspen and we lit some extra ones around the table. Soon the cocktail room was filled with the scent of pine trees as we watched the sommelier pour champagne down a tower of coupe glasses assembled below a dear antler chandelier. After the cocktails, I reluctantly shed my long lace veil that had my new initial “K” woven at the bottom. I loved it so much I hope to hang it over our baby’s crib one day. Once the doors were opened to the ballroom, it was wonderful to see the afternoon light pouring in from the large windows around the room with views of the mountains. We were also excited to see how guests reacted to the oxygen bar. Most Miamians have never really experienced one so it was fun watching everyone head over throughout the night to get their fix of purified oxygen in eucalyptus and mint aromas. The air around us was filled with a wonderful blend of music as our band and DJ artfully infused the playlist with everything form the Jewish Hava Nagila to the Cuban Guantanamera. I also loved seeing the mirrored table numbers hanging delicately under a mass of beautiful dahlia centerpieces. The flowers even followed us all the way to our suite when Brandon and I stumbled upon scattered petals, which my bridesmaids Cat, Eli and Dolo secretly arranged in our Hotel Jerome suite before the after party was over. Brandon and I met out in the ocean but we created our new life together on top of a mountain at 11,212 ft. It truly felt like the closest we could get to heaven and we are so incredibly thankful for everyone who helped make it happen!!
