Organic Style Wedding in Sacramento

If there were ever an “I do” to give us major #WeddingGoals, it’d be this one. I’m deeming it “timeless elegance with a styled rustic twist,” all photographed through the lens of Mariel Hannah. In the words of the Bride, “As girls, we dream and imagine that our wedding day will be perfect.” And in this case, that little girl’s dream was totally brought to life. Head this way for so much more.

From The Bride… The day has finally arrived after waiting for this special moment to marry my best friend. It was a beautiful proposal when Eric asked me to marry him at a small beach in San Francisco. As girls, we dream and imagine that our wedding day will be perfect and everything will go smooth as planned. As soon as that romantic evening was over I knew I had to start planning and putting all the pieces together for my ideas to come to life.

As the months were flying by (literally) I realized that a lot has to be done to plan a wedding just like I have dreamed about. From finding the dress, to meetings after meetings finding the perfect venue to fit my style, I realized that planning a wedding could be stressful at times. I took me a little while of searching to find a perfect dress to fit my personality. I was looking for something vintage with a modern twist that I can feel pretty in. After searching for few months I found a dress that fit perfect with the Elegant/Rustic look I was going for, after making some modifications to the dress. After almost 6 months of on and off planning, the last week finally came when I was wrapping up last minute details that had to be done.

The day was here and it felt surreal. I woke up that morning with a smile that no one was able to wipe off my face. I knew that even if things didn’t turn out as planned, I would enjoy this day because I was marrying my best friend. We had the ceremony at the church I grew up in, which was very special for me, and our reception was held at Morgan Creek Gold Course. Eric and I fell in love with Morgan Creek from the first time we saw it.

We had our reception early in the fall on a beautiful sunny day, which ended with a gorgeous sunset. The hall was dimmed and candles were burning on each table while guests were enjoying the beautiful sunset on the patio. I couldn’t believe this day had come, which we both were waiting for, for so long. We enjoyed every moment of it and wished that time would slow down in those last moments. It was a magical day that we will never forget.

Roseville Golf Club Wedding from Anita Martin Photography

A passion for golf brought these two lovebirds together, so it only seems fitting that the beautiful Morgan Creek Gold Club played host to their big day – a day that was not only drop-dead gorgeous, but rich in Winter-inspired details, from the dreamy blue hues to the comfy bridesmaids’ shawls to the yummy hot chocolate bar. (LOVE.)  Planned to perfection by AlphaLee Events and captured in breathtaking images by Anita Martin Photography, this, my friends, is one for the history books.  See it all right here.

From the Bride… Chris and I share a passion for golf. We met on a golf course, we came to know one another and fall in love through the game and business of golf. We wanted our wedding to reflect our passion for the game and our passion for the people in our lives. With a winter setting, we added elements of class and warm fuzzies. For example, we offered a dessert table full of homemade desserts (even golf ball cake pops!) from family and friends instead of a cake, and a hot chocolate bar with personalized favor mugs for all to take home. We put our efforts into making sure our guests felt honored, welcome, and ready to have a good time. The day was about us, yes, but the truth is, we would not have been there on that day if it weren’t for each and every one of those people that had formed, touched, encouraged and shaped us along our journey in life. We made sure that was clear and set the tone of the evening.

As the bride, I had an eclectic taste I wanted to bring together… monochromatic, clean lines, vintage touches and a wintery ambiance. I made sure my color palate was complimentary without matching too loudly. I searched countless antique stores and thrift shops to find what I was looking for. My uncle cut down an aspen tree in Colorado so we could utilize slices of it in the centerpieces. My father-in-law handmade the vintage gate that acted as our seating chart. It was these (and many more) personal efforts the helped make my seemingly overzealous vision a reality. All of these hopes came together more perfectly than I could have ever imagined, and I could not have done it without all my incredibly talented and generous vendors who were willing to see my vision with me and make it a vivid reality.

Most of all, I wanted a welcoming and celebratory environment. We had the time of our lives, and everyone celebrated with us in that!

From Anita Martin PhotographyAnne and Chris both eat, sleep, and breathe golf, so their Golf Club wedding fit them perfectly.  They were surrounded by their family and friends, who laughed and cried with them all day.  I was swept up in the simple elegance of their wedding, and loved how they incorporated personal touches to make their guests feel at home. The perk of their delicious desert table was a hot chocolate bar, where guests could enjoy the cool winter evening with something warm and sweet.

This couple has a deep and tender love for each other, evidence by the way they were able to be in the moment throughout their day.  Anne proclaimed she was not nervous, only excited to be married.  After watching Anne with all of her bridesmaids, I told Anne’s mother you can tell a lot about a person by the quality of their friends and that her daughter really was such an amazing woman. To be surrounded by people that love you so unconditionally is very special. Anne and Chris radiate love and happiness, and their relationship is both refreshing and inspiring. It was truly an honor to be present during their wedding day.

Wonderland Shoot with a Moody Twist

This next photo shoot is somewhat of a departure from the classic Alice in Wonderland but the details and styling are BEYOND gorgeous. Blondes may have more fun but brunettes know how to rock a moody tea party. With Tim Burton’s dark and twisty take on Alice as inspiration, Kate Whelan Events incorporated lovely jewel tones and rustic detailing into their interpretation of Alice getting married. The result captured by Sarah Maren is nothing short of STUNNING. {Click here for even more images in the gallery}

The story of Alice in Wonderland has been a favorite of mine since childhood – so of course, when the new movie hit the theaters, I was beyond inspired. Having been a fan of Salvador Dali’s more dark and twisted take on the story, I loved the rich color palette and slightly devious delivery that Tim Burton imbued within the set. More specifically, I was inspired by deep purples, rich moss greens, pale lavenders, rusty orange and that pop of classic Alice baby blue used in the photos depicting Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter.

We approached this shoot as an opportunity to incorporate fun subtleties of the storyline into a rich, rustic backdrop. The chair tie, place card, drink/eat me sign and menu Luxecuts™ in dark shiny plastic lend an edge to the woodsy flowers and hand-painted mushrooms. The juxtaposition of the large wood farm table and the gold accents in the Chivari chairs, gold-rimmed black spoke chargers, flatware and teapots created an air of elegance against the tree-lined path. Floral china teacups brought back a hint of the classic Alice tale, as some were filled with the same pansies known to sing in Disney’s version.

Playing to the recent trend of black and white in wedding fashion and black lace tights in everyday fashion, we fused the two with a lovely lace dress accented by a tulle sash and large rhinestone rose pin. Various black and white fascinators were fun to play with – but the best accessory was a tribute to the infamous white rabbit himself, showcasing a mink colored bunny (Mrs. Whiskers) paired with a gorgeous gold pocketwatch necklace. Finally, a frothy-tulle concoction blended beautifully into the wildflowers, topped with a velvet blue bow.

Our model, Alison (how appropriate, yes?) held a bridal bouquet containing a collection of rhinestone brooches, peach garden roses, dusty miller and lavender roses, finished off with a selection of teapot and clock charms. She snacked on our lovely dessert table filled with treats listed on a large Luxecuts™ menu – Tweedle Mallows, White Rose Truffles, Royal Suit Linzer Cookies, Down The Rabbit Hole Cupcakes, and Three of Hearts Chocolate Pretzels filled the table along with other various treats in our color palette.

I cannot even begin to tell you how wonderful it was working with every single one of the vendors on the Alice team! The talent, the fun attitude, and the appreciation for the artful event industry really shines through in this project and I feel so grateful to have been a part of it!
