Sun-Splashed Hammersky Vineyard Wedding

There are sooo many excuses to have a long wedding weekend, but the one that means the most is bringing family together. For Ashley and Eric, whose loved-ones stretched coast-to-coast, hosting a Memorial Day celebration was a no-brainer. From her stunning Julie Ireland dress to the dreamy sun-splashed images from Josh Gruetzmacher, their day went off without a hitch. See it all in THE VAULT!

From The Bride…Eric’s family and friends are from the East Coast while Ashley’s are form the West Coast and thus our wedding was truly an opportunity for us to have all our loved ones in one place. Therefore, we wanted our wedding location to be an exciting destination. We picked Paso Robles, CA over memorial weekend as this allowed our guests to spend a long weekend together celebrating our wedding and exploring the beautiful central coast.

We made the day about the two of us by focusing our wedding on being a celebration of the coming together of two great groups of friends and family. It was important to us to make the weekend a celebration for everyone to enjoy and we did that by having a bowling event for all guests after the rehearsal dinner that went on well into the night, a “U” shaped table layout so that the guests felt connected, a large outdoor dance floor and an amazing DJ. Our most memorable moment of the day- dancing – the large outdoor dance floor coupled with an amazing DJ drew quite the crowd.

For future brides, we’d recommend booking your vendors early and remember this is about the two of you so figure out what you want and plan towards that. Stay focused on enjoying your wedding experience and don’t get hung up on the little things that don’t go perfectly. The wedding atmosphere is rooted in the bride and groom enjoying themselves and thus if you are having a blast then so will your guests.

Elegant HammerSky Vineyard Wedding in Paso Robles

As a California native, there is not much more that makes my heart skip a beat than an elegant vineyard wedding. I mean, with gorgeous golden sunlight beaming down, and HammerSky Vineyards‘ rolling hills serving as the most idyllic setting, can it really get any more magical than this?!  Want more? Danielle Poff captured this golden hour affair to utter perfection in the gallery here!

From The Bride…Choosing my color palette was easy with the amazing help of my florist, April. Florals were definitely one of the most exciting aspects of planning for me. I had always imagined a wedding with mostly Ivory and neutral florals/decor, but to ensure everything didn’t appear washed out, we decided to add a bit of peaches and blushes; we then tied everything together with gold accents. I also knew that despite wanting everything to be mostly neutral, I always wanted a pop of color- that’s where the bridesmaid dresses came in. I started noticing in magazines and blogs that although the neutral color dresses are “in,” I couldn’t get over how distinguished the bride and groom looked in photos next to a palette of actual bold color. I chose cobalt blue because it seems to be a classic color that will never go out of style- even multiple wedding guests wore the color out of coincidence! I decided on long dresses to stick with my vision of keeping the night classy and elegant. Plus, spring weather can sometimes be unpredictable and longer dresses add a hint of warmth! Most of all, I wanted my girls to be comfortable so I let them choose their dresses! I was lucky that everyone came to a unanimous decision on the Watters line and each girl found a style they were comfortable in. We all shopped together which made for great memories.

My gown was actually originally made as a typical sweetheart strapless style, but I had the same designer who made my mom’s wedding dress order extra lace from the bottom scallop of my gown and add sleeves. This allowed them to dramatically open up the back which I absolutely loved. They actually worked on my dress for 6 months and I had 5 fittings. Although it was somewhat nerve wracking not having seen the full product of my dress until approximately 10 days before the big day, I loved that in the end, I had a somewhat custom made dress- at a more affordable cost. I would totally recommend this option to future brides who are looking to stand out.

My husband and I stumbled upon HammerSky after a long day of looking at almost 10 venues. It was on our list of venues to see, however we almost skipped HammerSky out of exhaustion and having thought we found a place; I insisted we check it out to be sure. I remember us both walking on the grounds for the first time immediately saying outloud how perfect it was. We felt it was exactly what we were looking for- a winery that was not only rustic, but classy. We loved how quiet and off the beaten path it was compared to other vineyards in the area. The privacy was special.

All in all my biggest recommendation for future brides would be to make sure to take a moment with your new husband during your reception to break away for 5 minutes and escape to a spot that allows you to watch your guests and take in all that is going on. Take a moment to realize how much love you have around you and between you that evening. For us, our spot was the balcony of the farmhouse at our venue where we were able to overlook the entire reception. It was a special moment!

From the Bride… Josh and I had been dating for some time when we got engaged (8 Years!!!). In fact, I was pretty sure everyone already thought that we were married. We were very surprised by the outpour of excitement and well wishes from our friends and family when they heard that we were engaged. We followed that excitement with a lengthy engagement and thankfully, it continued to grow right up to the wedding.

Planning a wedding in Southern California seemed a little overwhelming to start. We weren’t sure where to start and soon enough I had taken Josh to at least a dozen potential spots. We talked about having a destination wedding or maybe even eloping! Ultimately, we stuck with our original plan and ended up having a wedding weekend that truly felt like a dream.

HammerSky Vineyards was the very first place I e-mailed and the very last place we toured. We had never been to Paso Robles and our first trip there was absolutely magical. We fell in love with the town and with HammerSky. Wedding planning was a different story, however. Josh and I both have demanding careers and with Paso Robles being four hours away, we were a little concerned about trying to pick vendors to spend a very intimate day with! We decided that we would make the drive several times to meet and get to know local vendors and then a few more trips to keep the planning going, with a little time for wine tasting thrown in.

Our team really helped us pull together the design elements, food, flowers and ambiance we envisioned for our wedding. Very early on in the planning, we felt that the distance between us during the planning process was no longer a concern. Taryn, with TOS Events was so great to work with and was a great partner in planning our wedding. She was an amazing resource to design with, talk through timelines, source rentals and anything else I could think of to need help with. We worked with Adornments for all of the florals, and Laurel is immensely talented. From our first meeting, I knew she understood the look I was hoping for and I absolutely loved all of the arrangements. Trumpet Vine, our caterer, was so welcoming, responsive, and collaborative. They really worked with us to create a menu that reflected us, right down to the signature cocktails for the evening. Their team was amazing and our guests were so well taken care of all night long.

Our photographer, Jay C. Winter is absolutely amazing. He and his wife Caitlen, are so talented and have this calm approach to make you feel at ease while getting your photos taken. Our photos are so unbelievably beautiful and capture the essence of the day perfectly.

Our wedding day was perfect and truly more beautiful than we could have ever imagined. Family, friends and vendors all came together to make sure Josh and I were taken care of. The day evolved into more of a wedding weekend celebration and our friends and family traveled from all over the world to attend. Their excitement leading up to the wedding was amazing. The love, pure joy, and support that we felt throughout that weekend surrounded Josh and I in a way that is hard to put into words. We feel so very lucky to have such supportive friends and family.
