An Intimate Farm to Table Dinner Party

It turns out that when Clayton Austin and Panacea Event Floral Design team up, magical things ensue. Things like this farm to table dinner party which is so immaculate. So incredibly beautiful. So beyond anything I could have ever envisioned I almost don’t even know where to begin. So instead of going on and on, why don’t we all just breathe in the beauty. And if you’re looking for more, the entire thing can be found right here.

From Love is a Bird… I have always had an affection for for smaller intimate affairs. Our home has always been the anchor for evenings filled with good wine, delicious food, family, laughter, and love. Addison, my partner of 7 years has a green thumb and tediously and lovingly tends to the small garden in our backyard while I on the other hand would much rather enjoy the fruits of his labor with juicy heirloom tomatoes in my salad or fresh mint in my mojito on a sweltering Texas summer afternoon. I found myself being extremely inspired by our collection of beautiful wooden cutting boards and brought an entire suitcase of them with me to California. These are the things I wanted to capture using the gorgeous rustic yet elegant outdoor space at the amazing Dana-Power House in Nipomo, Ca.

I imagined a super relaxed day where the couple would host their closest friends and family at their home, having hand chosen the fresh ingredients for the evening’s menu from their very own gardens as well as fresh fish from the local seaside market. I wanted the setting to feel comfortable and relaxed yet grounded and elegant at the same time. I found the dress at a vintage thrift store on Nantucket Island for only $60 and knew that it would be absolutely perfect for this event.

I really can’t thank Corinne from Panacea Event Floral Design enough. I had initially sent her a pinterest board I had created for inspiration and she immediately ran with it creating one of the most beautiful “floral” table centerpieces I had ever seen! To be honest the best part of this whole shoot was meeting the amazing photographers I had invited to enjoy the amazing setting afterwards over several bottles of local wine, grilled red snapper, roasted potatoes, and garlic steamed mussels! It was an evening I won’t soon forget!

From Corinne of Panacea Event Floral Design… After trying to contain my inner squeals when Clayton described this project to me, I was completely inspired to head in a very “un-flower centric” direction. The focus was driven by our local farmers market offerings. Bundles of deeply hued radishes and beets were incorporated atop lush beds of kale and rainbow Swiss chard, accented with some incredible purple globe artichokes. A few sumptuous heirloom tomatoes were tucked in and that set the table scape. Smaller focal points were created with gatherings of old heirloom types of flowers such as the romantic nigella or “love-in-a-mist”, as it’s known to cottage gardeners. We pared the flowers with fresh herbs including mint, bay leaf and rosemary adding some rich smoke bush and lambs ear for texture and contrast, all gathered together in simple brown bags and tied with twine. The aroma was intoxicating!

Dana-Powers Barn Wedding from Ken Kienow

You’ll be hard pressed to find another blogger more in love with the Dana-Powers Barn. I did get married there so I may be a wee bit partial to that gorgeous plot of land but one look at this shindig and I believe you all will be just as enamored. The light streaming in through the old wood siding, the citrus fields a plenty, the bright florals by Flowers To You By Jessica; it’s stunning. Not to mention the loads of pink which does a rustic barn oh so good. And when Ken Kienow is behind the lens, we just know we’re in for a mighty fine gallery. Peruse your heart out right here!

From the Bride… When we started planning about our big day, my groom and I kept it simple — we just wanted a fun party with our most favorite people. With Trevor’s family near Los Angeles and mine in northern California, we met in the middle for a tour of central coast barns to find our venue. Deciding on Dana-Powers House and Barn was the essential piece to determining the look and feel of the wedding, and from there, we were able to nail down the details of elegant (and colorful) rustic comfort.

We wanted our wedding to be a reflection of us, and we both have been known to enjoy a weekend of DIY projects, thus many details of the wedding were handmade, crafted and collected by us with the help of our friends and family. From the screen-printed hankies for our save-the-dates and sewing of napkins to the guest bags and endless label scraping of jars/bottles for flower arrangements, the whole wedding weekend was definitely a labor of love! For the remaining elements, we managed to find the most amazing vendors: Ken captured every moment flawlessly while keeping the atmosphere calm and fun, Judi at Dana Powers put us at ease throughout the planning process, U+U Designs produced the perfect invitations, Jessica executed my floral ideas exactly (filling over 200 jars!), and our guests are still raving about Trumpet Vine’s cheese sampler and the milkshake-and-fries send-off snacks! And obviously, with my brother at the DJ table, the dance floor was rocking from start to finish!

Looking back on our big day, we could not have been happier that it all came together just as we had imagined (and pinned). The sun shined all day, and a full moon rose behind the barn that evening. It was truly magical to have all the people we care most about in one place to celebrate. It really was the best day ever!

Nipomo, California Wedding by Ken Kienow Wedding Photography

I have had an all out love affair with the Dana Powers Barn ever since I said I Do in that very field and danced the night away in that very barn two years ago. It’s a magical little spot on the central coast of California and is made even more so by this pretty wedding captured by Ken Kienow Wedding Photography. And it is so very relevant being that the Groom is an Almond Farmer. How cool is that?!?! A rustic chic wedding fits this couple to a beautiful T. See it all here and be sure to catch the film of the day shot by Yves Huy Truong + Rose Hale below.

From the bride… Because my husband is an almond farmer, we thought a farm-chic wedding would be the perfect setting for our big day. We wanted more than anything to display a blend of our personalities, and we particularly wanted our guests to feel welcomed with warmth and leisure. After viewing the many barns strewn across California’s central coast, we instantly knew that there was no better venue for us than The Dana Powers Barn in Nipomo, California. When we took a visit to the venue, Shane said that it “felt like home,” and I knew instantly that this was where we were to be married.

With much of my inspiration coming from popular wedding blogs, I enlisted the help of a close friend and trusted her with my every thought. She was able to visualize my own vision and help make it a reality. Burlap, lace, lavender, lush soft colors, and of course hints of gold were on my agenda. I was an avid blog follower during the short six months of our engagement, and I have to admit, I started saving things into the “Someday…” folder on my computer even before Shane asked me to be his wife. If it weren’t for the beautiful, detailed content I found at my finger-tips, I wouldn’t have been able to pull off my dream wedding. I was lucky enough to have my mother-in-law make home made strawberry jam for the favors, and invitations were perfectly done to my expectations by Pleats And Thank You.

The day of the wedding, I was completely enthralled seeing everything come to life. Wrapped in the elegance of a simple sweet barn, charmed with chandeliers, and a rusty groom to meet at the end of an aisle surrounded by our closest friends and family. It was a clear, brisk fall day, thankfully captured by the click of Ken Kienow’s lens, and feelings of a full heart that will forever linger.
