We adore a variety of styles around these parts, but we’d be lying if we didn’t admit to a few factors that speak to our hearts a bit more than others – and with the blush dresses, barefeet and peony bouquet, this engagement shoot is pure SMP. Honey Honey Photography captured all the beauty at Laguna Beach and with these images, our Vault continues to shine brighter and brighter – more this way!

From Honey Honey Photography… Kristopher and Ashley met and fell in love in San Francisco. At the time, Kristopher was beginning his first year of law school and Ashley was working as an intern for a digital marketing agency. They met by chance, when a mutual friend invited them both to dinner, in what turned out to be a surprise double date. Ashley’s internship ended that day and she was only a few short hours away from flying back home to New York. She was reluctant to go out on her final day in San Francisco, but realizes now it was the best decision she ever made. After a night of laughter and endless conversation, Kristopher made sure they didn’t lose touch. The two messaged back and forth for a few months, before she received a job offer in San Francisco and decided to move back to the Bay Area.
Kristopher proposed to Ashley along the Ewoldsen Trail in Big Sur, CA. Two and a half years of unforgettable smiles and laughter brought him to this day. After hiking uphill for over an hour, the trees began to clear and an incredible view of the ocean appeared. Kristopher leaned in and asked her to close her eyes. He pulled out a purple, plastic cupcake ring. Several weeks prior, she recalled a troubling dream where he proposed with a giant purple ring. Tears welled up in her eyes as he slowly slid the ill-fitting ring on her finger. She quickly realized the ring was nothing more than a less-than-subtle reference to her horrible dream. She began laughing but indistinguishably crying, and wasn’t sure if he was about to propose. Sure enough, Kristopher quickly got down on one knee, pulled out a beautiful ring, and asked to spend the rest of their lives together. Almost a year later, they couldn’t be more excited for their upcoming wedding day!
From the Couple… We knew we wanted our engagement session to be at Crescent Bay in Laguna Beach, CA. Kristopher is an avid surfer, and we would spend a lot of time there in the summer. As soon as we saw Emma’s photographs, we knew her organic, elegant style was the perfect fit. We are beyond pleased with how the pictures turned out and can’t wait to display them in our new home!

You know what’s sweet? A surprise proposal. Because really, nothing compares to the genuine joy that radiates from the newly engaged. Take this duo, for when Andrew asked for Melissa’s hand, he got down on one knee while Brittanee Taylor captured it all to share. See the sweetness unfold in THE VAULT!

From the Bride-to-be… Andrew and I met 5 years ago volunteering at a canned food drive in Beverly Hills. I was 19, and he had just turned 20. Being a Northwest girl, I had made a promise to myself never to date an LA boy, but fate would have it a different way. He asked me out shortly after via social media, which I blew off in a nice way. I was totally into him but didn’t think a guy as attractive as him could possibly be a genuinely good guy. (I’ve never been so happy to be wrong though!) Fast forward 5 years and I was living in Tijuana Mexico volunteering at an orphanage. I would come up to my dad’s lake house in SoCal on the weekends where his cousin ironically had a lake house as well that he would visit on the weekends. Through social media again we reconnected and realized we were consistently within a few miles from each other. He once more asked if we could “hangout”, and I finally agreed.
One time was all it took! I had this insane feeling in the pit of my stomach that he might be the one! I told a girlfriend of mine that night “I think going to marry him”, and she told me I was crazy. He asked me on an “official” date a week later. Our first date he brought his guitar, and we sang worship songs together on the beach and talked about Jesus all night. I knew for sure that I had found my missing puzzle piece. Nothing in my life had felt more right. The next date we were discussing marriage, children, and having a life together. (This is freaking stuff of the movies I kid you not.) But somehow it didn’t feel like a childish love, it was logistic and rational all at the same time. I had found the most compatible person I had ever met. There was a type of supernatural peace (which still hasn’t faded) that surpassed all of the giddy Jr. High butterfly feelings. Like it was my destiny, the one that God personally handpicked just for me. A feeling I have not ever felt before nor knew existed.
Almost 3 months later the man of my dreams proposed to me. Andrew had planned the most romantic proposal in Laguna Beach. The day of the proposal he arranged a beautiful beach home to stay in, we went shopping for a new outfit (worn in the pictures), and then he had his sister take me to get my nails done. After our nails, we were told to meet Andrew down by the beach. I’ll never forget the look on his face as I started walking to him, that adorable blushing smile with the greatest dimples on earth. I walked to where he was, surrounded with candles in mason jars & flowers, with a set up of champagne on the side. He got down on one knee and told me that he knew 5 years before that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. He proceeded with the sweetest speech I had ever heard pouring out so much of his heart. He opened the box with the most special ring that he had custom created. There was a photographer in the bushes, and some of our family and friends watching from afar. After a quick celebration and beach shoot, we commenced the night with a celebratory dinner with some of our loved ones. It was absolutely perfect!

There’s no doubt that engagements like this one are all the more special because of the amazing photographers behind the lens. In this case? Our friends at Koman Photography, who crank out more pretty than we can keep up with. But at the heart of those love sessions live couples who are true to themselves, like Chris and Sarah. Lovers of the outdoors, the vast Pacific scenery, boba and macarons, they centered their engagement around a few things they love the most. See more in THE VAULT.

From Koman Photography…We are so fortunate to be Chris and Sarah’s wedding photographers. They are two of the sweetest people you’ll ever meet! Their love for each other shines and we are so grateful we get to tell a story of their love through our photos!
From The Bride…Chris and I first met in Berkeley during the USC vs Cal football weekender (go Trojans!). Although we were on opposing sides, we surprisingly had a really fun weekend together filled with lots of laughter. It wasn’t until 5 years later when our friendship turned into something more, but even then, not much had changed. We continued to laugh at everything and anything, with each other and at each other. After 2.5 fun filled years of dating, Chris surprised me at the beach and asked me to marry him. On day one (and for many years following that), I never expected Chris to be “the one,” but today, I can’t imagine it being anyone else.
For our engagement shoot, we wanted a fun, romantic setting that captured who we are as a couple. We love being outdoors and fell in love with the beautiful natural setting at Thomas F. Riley Wilderness Park. Also, we got engaged at the beach so we knew we had to incorporate the vast Pacific into our session. We wanted to incorporate some of our favorite things so we gathered our favorite drinks (boba, of course) and favorite desserts (you can never go wrong with macarons) for our intimate picnic. One of our more recent hobbies we picked up was biking together so we wanted to capture this new adventure as well. The entire day was so much fun for us both and as Marlene showed us a couple previews throughout the day, we were simply blown away by her amazing talent. Everything came together perfectly and we can’t thank Koman Photography enough for capturing these special moments so beautifully.
