Romantic Summer Sonoma Wedding

I’ve become pretty convinced that Sonoma is the land where weddings have an extra special sparkle and this one right here reinforces that belief even more. Toss in the talents of Pineapple Planet and Vanda Floral Design and we have an absolute gem on our hands. Jihan Cerda captured every stunning moment of this elegant affair and you can bet that I’ll be losing myself in these photos for the greater part of today.

From Pineapple PlanetPatti & Evan’s sweet and romantic wedding was held at Beltane Ranch in Sonoma. A gorgeous August weekend celebration was joined by guests from Thailand, Southern California and the Bay Area. Patti’s name in Thai translates to Honey Bee so accents of bees were used in the design as well as honey jar favors. Patti and Evan were gracious and thoughtful throughout the entire planning process. Their talented and professional team of partners did an amazing job hosting 60 guests at this breathtaking ranch.

Romantic Military Wedding in Sonoma

For a love spanning over ten years – you read right! – this wedding was a long-awaited celebration. Anchored in gorgeous design by Ooh La La Weddings and florals from Belle-Flower, it’s the definition of summertime chic with a palette complimenting to Groom’s Navy whites. The Great Romance told the story through their lens, and you can see it all from start to finish.

From The Bride…Mitch and I met over ten years ago at the end of high school. We weathered a long distance relationship through college while he was in Annapolis, Maryland at the Naval Academy and I was swimming in literature studying English at Berkeley.

Mitch and I both love the outdoors, a tasty nibble and drink, music, and our friends and family, so we immediately knew we wanted our wedding to incorporate all of these. When we found Beltane Ranch in Glen Ellen, California, we knew it would perfectly deliver the ambiance we imagined with its gnarled giant oaks and rolling golden hills. Mitch and I love the outdoors, a tasty nibble and drink, music, and our friends and family, so we immediately knew we wanted our wedding to incorporate all of these. When we found Beltane Ranch in Glen Ellen, California, we knew it would perfectly deliver the ambiance we imagined with its gnarled giant oaks and rolling golden hills.

From there, planning was a breeze because we kept things simple. The scenery was already so beautiful, that we didn’t need much decor; however, the flower centerpieces and bouquets designed by our florist Natalie from Belle-Flower were absolutely gorgeous. Her artistry added another level of beauty to the already breathtaking ranch. Our caterer, Park Avenue Catering, is the first Green Certified catering company in Napa and Sonoma counties, and their farm to table meal was fresh, delicious, and served beautifully.

Music was also very important to us, so I spent a lot of time creating the perfect playlists for each aspect of the wedding and selecting our special songs. For our first dance, we chose “Moon River,” the theme song from my favorite movie “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.” Sung by Audrey Hepburn, the song is so raw and emotional to me, and it perfectly describes the feelings Mitch and I have starting our lives together.

My favorite moment of the wedding — besides our vows — was our last dance. The entire evening was truly brimming with fun, happiness, and love, and our last dance was an overflowing of these feelings. Dancing to Wilco’s “California Stars,” a favorite song of ours, we suddenly found ourselves in the middle of a giant, group “dance-hug.” In that moment, I felt so overwhelmingly joyful, surrounded by the love of our friends and family. It was the perfect beginning to our new life.

A huge thank you to all of our wonderful vendors, especially our coordinator, Lindsey, from Ooh La La Weddings for allowing us to truly relax and enjoy our day and to our incredibly talented photography team Tommy and Connie of The Great Romance Photo for exquisitely capturing the essence of the day for us to treasure forever.

A little dash of color goes along way in the pop department and the florals crafted by Monkey Flower Group for this vineyard affair are the citrus colored answer. From Elle Jae Photography…Heather and Fred’s wedding perfectly reflected the stylish and sophisticated couple. The warm sun-drenched day in Sonoma was just made for a celebration of love, family, food and wine. BR Cohn is a perennial favorite for us with it’s genuine feel and California vibe. The massive oak tree under which the ceremony was held gives weight and permanence to the ever changing landscape of the vineyard.

Heather and Fred chose to do a First Look and you’ll see the emotion in Fred’s eyes as Heather emerges from the cottage. From that moment on, their sweet, intimate and relaxed manner set the tone for the rest of the day.

Floral design was by the amazing Jaime Giorgi, owner of the Monkey Flower Group and wedding design/coordination was expertly handled by Leslie Struble.

From The Bride… If you believe in love at first sight, then this was it. I noticed Jason the second he walked into the grungy, old bar on Avenue A in NYC that rainy Wednesday night. He definitely did not notice me at first, but by the end of the night I made sure he had. We talked about anything and everything until we were the last people in the bar. He walked me home and planted a goodnight kiss on my lips that left me on cloud 9 – I haven’t come down since.

I had to work for my ring! I was led on a scavenger hunt that pointed me from one place to the next, each location having a special meaning behind it. Even more incredible, was that my clues were hand written letters from Jason that were presented to me by a surprise visitor that he had flown in for the occasion. I finally found Jason along Lake Michigan waiting patiently to propose – which was the same spot we decided to leave NYC and start a life together in Chicago. It was so special to have our friends and family from coast to coast join us in the Midwest to celebrate our engagement.

I had a very specific idea in my mind of how I pictured our wedding day – California, wine country, summertime, outdoors, strung lights, relaxed and intimate, so I was able to narrow down the options pretty quickly. BR Cohn offered exactly what I was looking for and more. Planning the wedding long distance, I relied heavily on Pinterest, blogs, etc. to view as many videos and images of the venue I could get my hands on.

Jason and I had different opinions of what “our song” was and what our first dance should be at our wedding. Eventually, Jason agreed to let me win and we danced to “God Only Knows” by the Beach Boys. In our vows, which we wrote ourselves, we promised to let the other person “win” from time to time. I stuck true to my vows and without Jason knowing, asked the band in advance to learn his choice of our first dance, “You and Me” by Penny and the Quarters, to play as the last song of the night. The second he heard the first note, he began to cry. We slow danced under the stars taking in what had just been the best day of our lives. We felt as though we were the only people within miles, even though we were surrounded by our closest friends and family. I will always smile when I think back to that moment.

Intimate Sonoma Wedding

True story: the second I saw this wedding, I emailed my (currently wedding planning) little sister and told her to be on the lookout for what is sure to be her dream wedding.  Am I hinting just a tad that I want to spend the weekend at the lovely Villa Montebella drinking wine and basking in some of the prettiest details I’ve ever seen?  Yes, I am.  Because this, friends, is one amazing celebration.  See it all captured by onelove Photography right here.

From the Bride… It was really important to both us that our wedding not only represent us as a couple, but also represent our two amazing families coming together as one. We chose a venue that could host both our immediate families for a long weekend and got married on the property with Daniel’s dad as our officiant. My oldest brother walked me down the aisle and our seven nieces and nephews (ages two years old to seven years old) were our ‘bridal party.’ We were surrounded by nothing but love the entire weekend.

My design inspiration came from our incredible venue, Villa Montebella, a Tuscan inspired estate set in beautiful Sonoma, California. I knew I wanted to play up the Italian theme and also create a setting that was both casual and elegant. I incorporated olive branches in everything – my bouquet, the men’s boutonnieres, the table arrangements, and specially created bracelets that we all wore in memory of my father. I complimented these details with rustic elements such as burlap welcome bags and TOMS shoes for the boys. Other details included an herb table of lavender, rosemary, rose petals, and basil where guests filled paper cones to toss at us at the end of the ceremony. And lastly, my favorite detail was our toasting glasses, the same coup glasses that were used at my parents wedding in 1975.

I plan events for Cartier for a living, so a lot of my inspiration came from past events that I’ve thrown as well as attended.

Enjoy every second and just remember it will be the best day of your life no matter what.

It poured rain all day the day of our wedding, the first time it rained in Sonoma in six months! Then out of nowhere the clouds parted, the sun came out and we had picture perfect weather for our ceremony and reception. Its truly a highlight of our day I will never forget!
