From John Schnack
…Matt and Chase were referred to me by their talented wedding coordinator, Molly Stark of Tres Chic Events. From our initial phone consultation, I knew they would be a fantastic couple to photograph! During our conversation, we chatted about possible locations for their engagement session. They mentioned how they spent a good deal of time in Coronado and that it holds a special place in their hearts. We picked a brilliant, mid-summer afternoon for their engagement shoot, and the “Crown City” did not disappoint.
Coronado huge beach and its iconic hotel, the Del Coronado, are familiar backdrops for engagement and wedding shoots. But beyond the main drag of Orange Avenue and the touristy shops at the Del, there lies a quaint neighborhood filled with wonderful locations that one doesn’t see photographed very often. There are streets that harken back to the city’s humble beginnings and shops with façades of yesteryear.
We spent the first part of the shoot exploring these areas, playing with the light and getting Matt and Chase comfortable in front of the camera. After a quick outfit change, we headed down to wide, expansive beach that is Coronado’s draw for so many.
Coronado’s beach is the only stretch of coastline in San Diego that faces due south, so instead of the sun setting over the ocean, it sets over Point Loma to the west, creating an amazing, dark backdrop that can’t be found anywhere else in San Diego. As the sun got lower and less intense, I turned Matt and Chase into it, allowing us to capture the landmark Del Coronado in the background. After all, one can’t have their picture taken in Coronado without showing the Del.

Backyard weddings are one of our favorite genres. They’re personalized and cozy and dripping in laid back elegance. And if that backyard happens to be mere feet from the ocean, consider it a whole new level of awesome. This photo shoot is oceanfront beauty paired with chic modern details and the idea of a casual beach house get together. Conceptualized and crafted by Lavender & Twine, Cassidy Rae Events and These Bud’s A Blooming, these images will have you rethinking that backyard affair and maybe moving it seaside.

From Lavender & Twine…The inspiration for this modern and romantic shoot was sparked by an incredible tiled wall–a wall accenting a one of a kind modern beach house. We wanted to help couples think outside of the box, and inspire a fresh take on a modern beach wedding. With a mixed palette of neutrals, greens, and whites with pops of oranges and gold, this is the perfect combination for a modern yet elegant wedding.
The stunning floral arrangements were provided by These Buds A Blooming. Allie put something together more gorgeous than I ever imagined. I mean, did you see that bouquet?! The soft textures in the arrangements combined with the edginess of the succulents and pops of color are a perfect fit with this modern vibe.
Incredible linens were provided by La Tavola. The textured grey linen cloth was the perfect anchor for the table design with dishware provided by Town and Country Rentals. The modern print napkins added a little something extra special. The custom silverware gave the perfect balance of modern elegance.
The cake was provided by The Sugar Lab with a last minute placement of an air-plant as the cake topper. It was the perfect finish to the intentional imbalance of the cake. The use of geometric shapes and blocks made this cake truly something special.
Our gorgeous bride looked amazing in a Paolo Sebastian gown that continued the grey palette through the wardrobe. Crystal Robinson Makeup did an amazing job styling the already stunning brides hair and makeup.

San Diego will always have a very special place in my heart and as a former resident of that sunny little city, this wedding is making me oh so proud. It’s all the best parts of So. Cal coming together: a care-free, laid back attitude, a so-pretty-it-hurts aesthetic and a whole lot of talent rolled up into one romantic Coronado wedding. Talent that includes knockout images by Shewanders Photography, spring infused florals by KLF Floral + Root 75 and cheeky paper goods crafted by Brightly Designed just to name a few. And these images are just the tip of the iceberg. See the whole affair right here.

From the Bride… September 3, 2011, was the best day of my life. I remember slipping into my dress and having a hard time believing that all of my dreams were coming true. From the paper pinwheels lining the aisle to the flower-filled mason jars hanging from the trees, every detail came together flawlessly. The invitations perfectly reflected my vision of rustic romance, while the gorgeous centerpieces gracefully accented the crochet lace table runners. Everything was tied together with the delicately detailed menus, table numbers and quotes scattered throughout the reception. I loved every second of planning this wedding. Even when I was overwhelmed, tired and ready for it all to be over, I enjoyed it. It wasn’t until I started to plan my wedding that I realized that having a team of vendors who work well together and having family and friends who love you and care for you no matter what are two of the most important ingredients to a dream wedding. I am beyond blessed to have had all of these ingredients. It is because of this that my wedding dreams were turned into a reality. I could not have asked for a better day.
