From The Bride…Justin and I have quite a bit of history between our families, as our fathers met in college, were tennis doubles partners thereafter and have been close friends ever since. Despite this lengthy history and both of us living in San Francisco, Justin and I never crossed paths until four years ago. Our relationship was immediately strengthened and accelerated by the special bond of our families and in many ways, we both felt as though there was an element of fate and destiny.

Palo Alto always felt like home to us; I attended Stanford and Justin has fond memories of visiting his grandmother when she lived there. As we considered wedding venues, the Menlo Circus Club struck us as an obvious choice for many reasons: it’s where my parents met, where my mom and Justin’s dad won a mixed doubles tournament and it was a place where we loved to spend time early on in our relationship. We chose September 19th as our wedding date, which coincided with my parent’s 35th wedding anniversary.

When dreaming of our perfect wedding, we quickly decided on our priorities: having all of our closest family and friends, an amazing band, plenty of food and overflowing drinks. Beyond these obvious choices, we were somewhat lost in terms of aesthetic and décor. We are incredibly grateful for Isabella Sikaffy and Claire Gilhuly of Florabella who did a brilliant job guiding us through the planning process (and also had amazing patience in dealing with our constant fluctuations in decisions). We cannot imagine a more professional, organized, thoughtful and present team than Isabella and Claire. They walked us through the year of planning with the perfect amount of structure and direction, while still welcoming us to explore and experiment. Even during a near panic attack after learning the club underwent renovations which affected our ceremony layout, they remained calm and gently directed us towards other options that we ultimately loved even more. As our wedding was winding down, I told Isabella and Claire (through a stream of tears) that I couldn’t bear the thought of not seeing them anymore and I’m so thankful we’ve been able to keep in touch. Sylvie Gil was another obvious choice. We instantly fell in love with her energy, passion and impeccable work during our first few meetings. When looking at our photos, one can feel the love radiating from the images and instantly understand the story behind them. Sylvie and her team were fun to work with and we appreciated how well she got to know us and our families through the process. These photos have quickly become our most valuable possession and we can’t wait to forever relive our wedding through them.

What we love most about our wedding is that it represented more than just the union of us two– it was about our families coming together and becoming one. Our team did an incredible job of capturing the magical celebration of our day. Everything from the gorgeous details, seamless flow and delicious food and wine was perfect. However, it’s the precious moments like sharing a quiet moment alone on the polo field as husband and wife during the sunset, playing flip cup at the Dutch Goose with our best friends and diving into the hotel pool in our wedding attire at the end of the night that we’ll cherish for the rest of our lives.

From One Big Fish EventsRobert and Adela got married in the backyard of their modern Atherton home in the height of the summer. They wanted a simple wedding with great food and live music, so with the help of Hugh Groman Catering and the earthly sounds of the band, Goodnight, Texas they were off to a great start. Guests were invited to gather for pre ceremony cocktails on their back patio. His and hers signature drinks were offered, while the groom mingled and the band serenaded.

Once everyone had a drink in hand, the band paused while their event planner, Sadie Waddington of One Big Fish Events invited guest to gather under the shade of two gorgeous redwood trees for Robert and Adela’s exchange of vows. Guests stood, creating an aisle for Adela to walk down while Goodnight, Texas played their processional. The ceremony was framed by the amazing floral work of Ivanka Matsuba of Studio Mondine, who created a beautiful textured structure to back the couple.

The happy couple danced back down the aisle as newlyweds, Adela wearing a custom designed wedding band and Robert with a place holder drawn on by the bride with a sharpie during their ceremony. He had committed to tattooing his wedding band as a symbol of their permanent love at a later date..

Guest enjoyed Hog Island Oysters and Champagne, while they gave the couple a few moments to themselves. Guests were entertained by Magnolia Photobooth and watched Adela and Robert enjoy their first dance as a married couple. Only a few of the bride’s closest family were able to make the celebration, however, a touch of home was sent through a video of congratulations from Adela’s family, a wonderful and emotional surprise for the bride.

Guest dined under a fabric canopy with soft lighting bouncing from chandeliers, designed by Five Star Productions. Adela’s new last name is Stone, so the intimate gathering of guests were invited to find their names which were hand written by the bride on granite stones at each place setting. Menu cards were laid out at each setting and abundant, lush floral arrangements lined the table.

A few toasts were made post dinner, then it was time for cake and a collection of amazing trifles for dessert, all provided by Hugh Groman Catering. DJ Von at Sutherland Entertainment, brought the guests to the dance floor before heat lamps were set up around a cluster of patio lounge furniture for guests to relax into the evening. Guest went home with a CD of the band’s music generously shared by Goodnight, Texas, and the couple where given an autographed LP of their work.

Adela looked stunning in a Vera Wang dress and Robert wore a sharp grey suite with his signature converse low tops. Lacie Hansen captured the details of the day beautifully and IQ Videography produced a lovely recap of their special day!

Country Club

From the Bride… We initially met in a study group in college and quickly became good friends. The following summer, we started officially dating and spent the next few years living apart as I was in New York City and he was in Boston. A few years later we decided to move together to San Francisco. As for the proposal, it was a warm night (a rarity in San Francisco!), so Adam suggested we take a bottle of wine and head to Crissy Field, one of our favorite places right next to the Golden Gate Bridge. Next thing I know, we had barely crossed the parking lot and onto the grass, and he’s down on one knee. With an audience of bikers, runners, and surfers passing by, we were engaged!

The Menlo Circus Club has a special place in my heart because my grandparents had been going there since the 1960s. Growing up, I used to take riding lessons there and my grandfather would come to watch me. Afterward, we would meet for milk shakes in the “Side Show” or snack bar portion of the club. Having had so many wonderful memories at the Circus Club, when my mom suggested it as a possible venue I immediately knew this was it! Adam and I both loved the wide open space of the polo field for our ceremony and then bringing the guests inside the clubhouse for an elegant seated dinner and dancing all night. We chose green, pink, and gold shades to highlight the day; with our beautiful bridesmaids in Kelly green. Surrounded by our family and friends, this was the best day of our lives and we will cherish it always.
