Intimate Summer Wedding at Sand Rock Farm

I love when I stumble upon something that I’ve never seen at another wedding before, and the imagery of hands, used throughout this celebration, is a perfect example. Representing the couple’s support and love for one another, they were a beautiful symbol used throughout the day. Add in the gorgeous florals by Flower and Forage, photos by Scot Woodman and I’ll be going through this gallery over and over again.

From Scot Woodman Photography… David and Lauren are both really artistic as individuals and together they knew they wanted their wedding to be something special. They had no strict guidelines, just a desire to be married in a space within proximity of Berkeley but also far enough away that they could build a weekend vacation into it for their families. They decided on Sand Rock Farm B&B in Aptos, CA because of it’s location, the lush gardens, beautiful rooms, and many hidden spots. They decided to make as much of the decor for the wedding as possible in order to have an intimate wedding full of personal touches. Lauren learned to throw pottery and it gave her the perfect opportunity to add in some funkier touches. They included hands on many of the decor items to reflect supporting one another as they strive towards being stronger, happier, and more loving people in the world, both as a couple and as individuals as well as their decision to have a handfasting ceremony as part of the wedding ceremony.

David performed a song he wrote for Lauren at the reception. They also asked many of their friends and family to assist with the various crafts projects they did for the wedding, from the table decorations, to the amazing floral arrangements, it was a day of beauty, love, and lots of laughter!

The DYI projects made by bride included invitations, ceramic pots, corn hole boards, wedding itinerary fans, cake plates, and Shibori tablecloths and Shibori chalkboards.

From Amy KanekoKelly and Alex — an attorney and neuroscientist who live in San Francisco — envisioned a rustic, woodsy wedding. They scoured venues all over the Bay area and settled on a forested B&B in the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Their ceremony took place in a clearing in the woods. They stood under a chuppah made of birch branches, gauzy fabric, and trailing vines. Bright wildflowers were tucked in sap jars and planted along the aisle. Afterwards, guests sipped cocktails in the shade of a massive redwood tree, then enjoyed a farm-to-table dinner. After dinner, the groom’s relatives performed classic dance hits in the stone ruins of an old barrel cellar.

From Danae Grace EventsThis rustic grandeur shoot was the perfect style that showcased a new wedding venue, Devine Ranch. Encased by the California rolling hills and towering redwood trees, Devine Ranch’s timber frame estate naturally creates a luxurious aesthetic. Using soft wood tones, and French lounge furniture, this escape turned into a romantic haven. Secluded from the rest of the world, this venue offers incredible locations for brides to get married at. As a designer, I am constantly inspired by unique design concepts and wanted to style an overall look that was not only inspiring but a statement look. We used hints of the pantone color of the year and added a lot of charm with chandeliers and exquisite accessories and dresses.

The summer tuscan wood table was full of blush vintage stemware, bright florals, and statement chairs all coming together for a romantic dine-in evening. The couture theme was interwoven in every detail from floral design by Krista Jon, and table scapes by Archive Rentals. Vintage trophies were stuffed with luscious blooms with hues of pink, purple and vibrant greens to pull in the venues equestrian flair. We used an exposed cake, which paired well with the natural texture of the mountain river rock fireplace at the estate. Every element of this shoot would be perfect for a bride looking to create a romantic setting for her wedding celebration.

Rustic Ranch Wedding Inspiration

M’dears, from the moment I laid eyes on this rustic gorgeousness from Carlie Statsky and Esla Events, I could not wait to share it with you. As an East Coast gal with a love for nautical New England weddings, you might never have guessed that I’m secretly obsessed with ranch weddings. And every inch of this bucolic beauty is exactly why. From the vintage touches, courtesy of One True Love Vintage to the vast and open setting at Devine Ranch, how could you not love it all?

From Laurel at Esla Events… For this shoot, the team drew inspiration from three main sources. The ranch itself offered plenty of inspiration. From its grand-scale architecture to expansive rolling hills, the “quiet grandness” of Devine Ranch influenced both the design and photography style.

Second, we focused on blending the boundary between indoors and outdoors, something that I had been wanting to play around with for awhile. When I visited Devine Ranch for the first time — seeing the exposed stones in the main house, noticing the barn’s stunning line-of-sight, and walking around the beautiful surrounding fields — I knew it would be the perfect spot to play with this idea.

And last but not least, I wanted to put a clean and modern filter on everything. With a ranch setting, it’s easy to veer into a more traditional, busy, DIY look. Drawing inspiration from brands like Heath Ceramics, the idea was to create rustic beauty that had plenty of visual breathing room, and let each element feel deliberate and considered.

Blush Pink Sand Rock Farm Wedding

As much as I looove a great blush infused wedding moment or flowers by Laughin’ Gal Floral that give me a case of serious Spring fever, it’s the couple behind this affair that really makes it sparkle. They’re beyond adorable and oh so in love, infusing their wedding day with a big dose of personality and a whole lot of candy for good measure. See all the goodies captured by Em The Gem in the full gallery.

From the Bride April… This is so cliche, and it’s probably cliche to say it’s cliche, but our wedding was everything I always dreamed it would be. Like many girls, I pretty much started planning my wedding from birth. When it came time to finally get serious about planning, in other words, when I actually had a fiance, I was so excited to bring all of these ideas to life! A couple weeks after we got engaged, Ben moved up to our new place in Portland, while I stayed behind to get as much planning done as I could. It was a little bit overwhelming at first, but with Ben’s help and input and my mom there with me at every vendor appointment, I knew that our wedding was going to be absolutely perfect.

I’ve always been an artistic gal, and we knew we wanted to incorporate that into the wedding. It’s those special touches that we felt were the most meaningful. I created a few hand lettered signs, and put together a fun and unique guestbook table, which I came up with completely on my own. Ok, maybe I saw it on Pinterest. We also incorporated a little bit of Portland in the decor, since we are recent Pacific Northwest transplants, and we showcased my extreme sweet tooth with a home made candy bar and Ben’s love of pigs with marzipan pig favors and cake toppers.

Not only was our wedding day perfect and special, but the whole weekend was an experience that will never be topped. Having our bridal party, who are all our closest friends, come from around the country to spend the weekend with us at Sand Rock Farm was a memory we will both cherish forever. At the end of the day, there is nothing we would have changed (except maybe more candy).
