Elegant, Floral-Filled Southern Garden Bridal Inspiration

From the moment I laid eyes on this stunning shoot from Ashley Kelemen and Mary Me Brides I wanted to let out the loudest of squeals. It’s pure gorgeous. With florals from Melissa Kendall Floral Design so gorgeous I could cry and perfectly curated pretty, I’m head over heels in love with this gallery.

At Home

From Ashley KelemenWhen planning a trip down South, I was able to team up with these incredible local vendors to pull together some true southern inspiration! I have always had a fascination with the culture and beautiful scenery in this part of the country, and dreamed of shooting some beautiful inspiration below the dripping spanish moss. Though the shoot was focused on bridal style, we had a lot of fun pulling together a little whiskey bar as an homage to the groom! The day of the shoot, we were hit with an unseasonable rainstorm, which added to the moodiness and drama of the scenery around us.

From Mary Me BridesWith this being Ashley’s very first time to Alabama we wanted to pull together a shoot that gave her the ultimate southern experience. Our inspiration came largely in part from the true southern charm that Alabama has to offer. Taking the classic southern aspects and adding a touch of elegance and a little wow factor we came up with the concept. We wanted to portray the natural beauty of Alabama while still bringing in the elegance we so love.

Backyard Lake Martin Wedding by Spindle Photography

We’re going out with an Alabama bang and a Bride that lights up the page like nobody’s business. She’s all smiles and ruffles with an easy, breezy beauty that is matched perfectly by this lakeside wedding to her beloved. From a sea of Lilly Pulitzer to breathtaking dockside views, get cozy with all the images captured by Spindle Photography in the full wedding gallery.

From Spindle Photography I’m in love with this lakeside wedding that took place in a little white chapel this past summer. The bride, Katie, was wearing a Lilly Pulitzer scarf when Patrick, the groom, proposed, and the same print from the scarf was used for the groomsmen’s ties and Katie’s going-away dress (as well as the bow tie cookies at the reception)!

The Hank Williams wood cabin where the girls got ready (with red gingham curtains!), the aqua blue Lilly Pulitzer bridesmaid dresses, a sweet pink and green bridesmaids’ brunch planned by Katie’s aunt to start off the day, the ceremony in a little white chapel on the lake, the reception at her Daddy’s house, bow tie cookies, Krispy Kreme donuts, the ruffled neckline on Katie’s dress that was just so her personality … the warmth that a lake wedding in Alabama implies was absolutely brought to life in this wedding. It was so fun to be a part of a wedding that really reflected Katie and Patrick and their sweet, Southern love.

From the Bride… A week after getting engaged, I found myself on an eight-hour flight to Canada for a family ski trip. You can only image the stack of wedding magazines that I brought with me — in fact, I’m almost positive I had more magazines than clothes in my suitcase. Let’s just say I had my priorities straight. I knew deep down that when I saw “The Dress” it would be one of those “can’t eat, can’t sleep, reach-for-the-stars, over-the-fence, World Series” kind of feelings. I spent half the plane ride thumbing through magazines, turning down pages of dresses that I liked when lo and behold there IT was. I whipped out my sharpie and circled the dress fifteen times, ripped the page out of the magazine and sprinted to the front of the plane to show my mother.  I could have cared less that the fasten your seatbelt light was on. I was a newly-engaged 22 year-old who had just found THE DRESS. My mother was thrilled and told me she couldn’t wait to get wedding dress shopping with me when we returned home. Upon returning home, I called the number from the Amsale ad and located the dress. I’m still not sure what came over me at that moment but I crossed my fingers and wished for the best. Unbeknownst to my mother, I had just ordered my wedding dress without having seen it in person or trying it on. A few weeks later, the dress arrived. It fit like it was custom tailored to my body. I never had one single alteration done to the dress. The fit and length were perfect and it was the dress of my dreams. When you know … you know!

From the Bride…Somehow God brought together a southern gal from Alabama and a farm boy from the fields of upstate New York. Two needles in a haystack united by the providence of God – that is the only way we know how to explain it, and we are thankful! We knew that planning a wedding would be difficult since I was living in Alabama during most of our engagement while Stephen was living in Germany, but we had to find a way. In the end we decided on a rustic outdoor theme that would merge my southern vintage style and Stephen’s pastoral childhood.

For our reception we chose a plantation home in the rural outskirts of Montgomery called The Oaks. To set the stage of our post-nuptuals party we asked the talented sister duo Lauren Ladner and Amelia Davis to take over flowers and decorations. I gave them a couple pictures and some ideas of what I wanted it to look like and they took it from there creating the perfect balance of flowers, wood, and light. We wanted a relaxed and natural atmosphere so we chose a neutral color palette accented with vintage hues and earthy textures. To create interest we designed each room in the plantation to have a different feel and aesthetic. On the actual night of the reception we were blessed with perfect weather and our guests were able to enjoy the gorgeous afternoon as they danced to the tunes of Blue Grass band The Act of Congress. The day slowly died to a picturesque sunset in the west until night had fallen all around us. The darkness of the venue contrasted beautifully with the lights of the plantation house pouring out onto the manicured lawn where guests mingled under a clear and star speckled sky. It was just one of those times when you think, “it can’t get any better than this…” when someone came up to us after cutting the cake and said, “do you know what tonight is? Look outside, there is a ‘super-moon’ tonight!” On March 19th the moon was at close to the earth that it can come and it was shining in all its brilliance!

We could not have been happier with the whole experience. For the next two days we kept saying, “that was the best wedding we have ever been to”, but then we reminded each other that every married couple probably says the same. Lastly, we can’t forget our amazing photographer, Stephen Devries, who was able to capture each moment from beginning to end. He did an excellent job and never made us feel rushed or forced, but simply captured the day as a natural observer, we couldn’t have been more pleased with the outcome of the photography.
