Rustic Hazelnut Orchard Wedding in Abbotsford, British Columbia

Whitney Krutzfeldt is serving up some serious sweetness by way of this wedding, and to say we love her for sending it our way would be a total understatement. Because this gallery? It’s packed to the gills with sentimental details that will make you swoon. Oh, and we are totally tipping our virtual hats to She’s My Florist for coming on board only ten days before the big day and knocking the floral design out of the park. So amazing.

From The Bride…I use to always say the only thing I cared about my wedding was my dress, everything else would just fall into place. Naturally once I got engaged the first thing I did was look for a wedding dress. I went to a few places in Bellingham and Abbotsford and ended up at Agape Bridal where I was met with amazing service and friendliness. I tried on a dozen dresses and then a few more and found the one that was exactly what I dreamed it would be. The dress set the theme for the rest of my wedding, simple vintage elegance. I began collecting vintage vases, anything sea foam coloured and lanterns, I always wanted lanterns.

The flowers ended up being my favourite part, something I never thought I cared about, but I fell in love with succulents, since they were sea foam and unique. After many bumps in the road with florists, ten days before my wedding I was without a florist and in a panic entered She’s My Florist. This quickly became my favourite part. She arranged bouquets of flowers I never knew existed in muted pinks purples and most importantly succulents. When asked about my favourite part, it would have to be my flowers.

The most important part to me was the ceremony and that our wedding showed the importance of community. We had our wedding at a friends property that had a beautiful view of the Frasier river and hazelnut orchard on the side. The venue provided a beautiful outdoor elegance. We set up a dance floor outlined by tube lighting on the grass so people could dance in their bare feet with the grass between their toes and offered ice cream sundaes after the ceremony so people could gather around, pull up a chair and talk over ice cream.

It was a beautiful day with many laughs, hugs and conversation. A day that showed the amazing community we have around us as we start this new adventure together!

Surprise Proposal: He Said Yes

If this couple looks familiar to you, it’s because you probably fell head over heels in love with them and their South African rehearsal dinner and wedding (which were both proudly featured on the pages of SMP). Well that love is just going to get deeper. Brace yourself, and prepare to cry in the best possible way (I still have tears running down my cheeks as I type). Because this proposal video from Vincent + Theo Studios? This is what it’s all about, folks.

From Ruby Yeh…This past spring, I was fortunate enough to be part of an incredibly heart-warming and unique moment: my friend Vicky proposed to her boyfriend of 8 years. A special events planner and proposal ninja, Vicky used her creativity to ask her boyfriend, Jon, to marry her.

Two years ago, Jon had proposed to her, but at the time, she didn’t feel quite ready for marriage. This year, when she was ready, she decided that she should be the one to do the asking. During a trip to Vancouver to visit Jon’s family, Vicky popped the question.

After spending a night in Seattle at a friend’s wedding, Vicky and Jon drove up to Vancouver to spend some time with his parents. Little did Jon know, the place where many of his favorite childhood memories took place — his elementary school — would also be the place he would get engaged. Family and friends from all over the country flew in for this incredible surprise. A few of the adorable boys from the school even joined in on the plan. After a morning of distractions from Jon’s dad, Jon was led to the school under the pretense that he was there for a Mothers’ Day event. But once he saw Vicky waiting for him under the arches of the school entrance, he realized something special was about to happen.

We lined up along the pews of the school chapel when Vicky appeared with Jon blindfolded. The music was cued, and Jon opened his eyes and walked down a personalized “memory lane”: Vicky had created posters for each milestone of their relationship, from the first time he serenaded her (Area Codes by Ludacris was the song of choice), to the day she asked for his parents’ blessing. At the end of the aisle, Vicky popped the question – only to have Jon say, “No”. He instead got down on one knee and insisted that he be the one to ask her. Jon’s father stepped forward with the ring Jon had chosen two years ago for Vicky, and proposed.

The couple has since married in South Africa (wedding here and rehearsal dinner here), where Vicky grew up. They live in NYC where Vicky is a special events planner at A Modest Proposal and Dinner Bandits.

Rustic Red + Green Seaside Inspiration

Celebrating Christmas outside by the sea is a foreign concept to me, but one I’d be happy to entertain. And if so, this is what I’d dream my holiday would look like. This photo shoot by Hong Photography Studio, and created by Fleur De Lis Events and Flower Factory, exudes elegance, yet feels welcoming, and I just may take some cues from this gallery when decorating my holiday table this year.

From Fleur De Lis Events… Inspired by British Columbia’s serene shorelines, Fleur de Lis Events dreamt in lace and luscious florals to produce a magical editorial featuring the beauty that is the West Coast. We drew inspiration from washed-up seashells and drift wood, and featured the tranquil Pacific Ocean as our grande backdrop.

We used mother of pearl plates (Pier 1 Imports), lace linen featuring embroidered flowers, and napkins with scallop lace details (Eclat Decor) to create a dreamy tablescape that sparkled in the pink hues of the West Coast sunset.

Colour palette is white, a touch of silver, and red (florals).
