Romantic Boho Wedding on Vancouver Island

Barefeet and overflowing breathtaking bouquets can only mean one thing: we have a boho beauty on our hands right here. This summer wedding, captured by Christie Graham, has me embracing a more relaxed outlook for my own upcoming nuptials and Paul Behm’s film just reinforces that belief even more. Settle into your Monday in a much better mood with these pics right here.

From Christie Graham PhotographySurrounded by close friends and family, Jason and Mish recited heartfelt vows in the Groom’s grandparent’s backyard on Vancouver Island in late September. They couldn’t have imagined a more personal place to get married. Hand-crafted wooden benches, the perfect flower arch and countless other details were designed and built by the Bride and Groom in preparation for their summer wedding. Two dogs (one belonging to the couple, the other belonging to a friend) sporting fresh floral collars preceded the Bride down the aisle.

The Bride’s carefree, barefooted boho look (so gorgeous!) and the maids’ mismatching braided updos and dresses complemented the stylish menswear – crisp navy velvet jackets, cream chinos and bow ties – perfectly.

Gold, blush, navy, cream and wooden elements came together flawlessly, decorating the reception venue to perfection. Thoughtful signage, beautiful photo memories, unique furniture vignettes, vintage books, frill balloons, an intricate handmade head table backdrop and cream candles added a sense of romance and intimacy to the space.

From the beautiful Bride… I planned the wedding myself over the course of one year. The Hotel Georgia was the first venue we looked at and the one we ultimately knew we wanted for our wedding reception, as Tim and I often frequent the hotel’s 1927-built lobby lounge for an evening cocktail or two, and we really connected with the warmth and elegance of the hotel. The interesting part was a couple months after securing the space, I found out my grandparents had their wedding reception there as well some 60+ years ago! We chose the celebration pavilion as we are not religious but wanted to be in a close intimate setting with our family and friends, which we felt that venue provided. We really liked that people sat in a semicircle which also made us feel more connected to them as they felt closer to us throughout the ceremony.

The wedding planning process was a lot of fun, everything seemed to fall into place and felt fairly effortless. I chose my vendors based on the connection I felt with them or through the work they had done in the past that resonated with me, and I couldn’t have been happier with the outcome. I found my dress on the first day of looking – couldn’t believe it, but knew it was the one. I chose my shoes as I wanted a pop of ‘blue’ and the Tiffany blue seemed fitting as that is where our wedding rings are from. The bridesmaid dresses were the first the ladies tried on as well and were such a hit! Loved the versatility in them, very flattering on each body type, which was really important to me that they all felt comfortable.

Best thing I did during my planning process was to hire a planner, even though it was only for ‘day of coordination services,’ the support and care I received well surpassed the ‘day of.’ Alicia Keats and her co-worker Sarah Lino were amazing to work with. Their calm and caring energy, attention to detail, flawless execution was more that I could’ve asked for. I couldn’t have pulled it all off without them.

I can’t really say there was one thing that really stuck out to me, but I can say if I could turn the clocks back and do it all over again I would in a heartbeat. I genuinely LOVED everything about our wedding day, nothing was missed to us. If anything we wish it could’ve lasted longer.

Best piece of advice that helped me through it all: Take 20 minutes or so after the ceremony to yourselves as a newlywed couple to soak it all in – Tim and I got to do this and escape to the amazing penthouse suite they upgraded us to and it was the BEST, as that whole day went by in a blink of an eye!

Colorful Victoria Harbor Wedding

Here’s a duo that isn’t afraid of a little color.  Think vibrant orange, pink and purple hues playing nice with a fab contemporary vibe and some seriously creative stylings from French Kiss Events.  Now add in crazy cool florals from Verbena Floral Design and a breathtaking setting like the Inn At Laurel Point and it all equals one drop-dead gorgeous gallery from Kim Kalyn Photography.  See it all here.

From French Kiss EventsWhen I first began chatting with Kim and Sheridon, their only request was for a bright and cheerful wedding, filled with the Kim’s favorite colors: pink and orange. Getting to work with such bright colors was so much fun, and inspired the rest of the decor for their wedding.

Being right on the ocean, the couple wanted to make sure their guests could enjoy the beautiful view and get a real sense of Victoria BC. So, set at the stunning Inn at Laurel Point, we created a modern vibe through the specialty furniture, bright linens and food service. The reception was served cocktail style, with fun cocktails (named after the trips they have taken together), gourmet food stations, and a glamorous cake pop display! The color was infused all throughout the decor, and kept the space feeling bright and fun. Definitely a refreshing take on a summer wedding palette!

Being a part of this wedding was so special, and getting to witness the love that these two have for each other and their families, was truly spectacular. Their personalities were spotlighted throughout, my favorite of which being the hot pink layer of crinoline that was added under the bride’s dress. So unique, and was the icing on top of the cake, to this perfect day!

From Nadia Hung Photography… Victoria and Leon were one of my most amazing couples, I was quite taken by how in love they were with each other after hearing their adorable proposal story involving a Easter Egg Hunt. Victoria had a vision of how she wanted her wedding and she did it beautiful. She designed the wedding herself and found all the best vendors in Vancouver. I was in awe of how everything came together on her wedding day, from her Louboutin wedding shoes, her stunning wedding dress from Bisou Bridal to the beautiful bridesmaid dresses from J. Crew. Her reception was gorgeous with the elements of rustic elegance created by Celsia Florist and Sweet Beginning Vancouver and of course Filosophi Events made the wedding day absolutely flawless.
