Whimsical Pastel Summer Wedding

This, loves, is the ultimate summer wedding.  Think pretty pastel hues, a laid-back, yet totally charming reception + ceremony and whimsical details at every turn.  I’m talking paper flowers lining the aisles, people.  It’s light-hearted meets totally fun and you can see every gorgeous moment captured by Heart + Sparrow Photography in the full gallery.

From Heart + Sparrow PhotographyI had the pleasure of photographing Kaitlyn and Bryce’s wedding this past August, and I was blown away with the thought and detail that were put in by the couple as well as their unbelievable planners, Hera Weddings & Events.

From the Bride and Groom… We didn’t really approach the wedding with a theme in mind. We worked closely with our wedding planners to pull together a vision for our day that really exuded who we are and what we love. The final product had so many DIY elements and simple, yet elegant themes. For colours, we used a lot of pastels (blush, peach and mint), greys, creams and leafy greens.

Our three favourite moments from the day were:

1. The reveal before the wedding: this was such a special private moment for us, we were able to calm our nerves and we were just so happy to see each other. We are so happy that Natalie was able to capture that moment for us.

2. Saying I Do: we were so fortunate to have Bryce’s Grandmother officiate our wedding, saying “I Do” in front of all our family and friends was an incredible moment.

3. Dancing the night away with our family and friends: our wedding felt so spectacular only because we have the most amazing family and friends, they were so excited and made the evening so fun for us. The dance floor was packed the entire night and we couldn’t have asked for a better celebration!

Kate Spade Lemon Wedding Inspiration

This sunny wedding inspiration from Claudette Marie Events is just the shot of Vitamin D you need with the cold starting to creep in. Inspired by Kate Spade, the shoot, captured by Kristyn Harder, had big, beautiful shoes to fill, and fill them it did. With lemons in every corner, dip-dyed napkins, and the perfect touch of whimsy in flamingo form, it’s the perfect way to inject a little sunshine in your day.

Whimsical

From Claudette Hogan… Everyone jumped on the Kate Spade band wagon this year, working on shoots and inspiration using the trademark, black, white, pink and gold and I must admit, I am 100% a fan! But I wanted to do something a little bit different, but still with that well known, quirky Kate Spade feel.

When New york fashion week was on, I saw the amazing lemon printed items that they had released and I instantly fell in love! I started a Pinterest board for inspiration and ran with it.

I love doing shoots outside. I think it gives you so many more options to work with and Ixchel from Parfait Productions recommended the venue.

I approached Kristyn and Parfait to see what their thoughts were, and they were both really excited to be a part of the shoot. Both their creative visions and talent made this shoot come to life!

The Social Page worked wonders on the stationery, even though I may have drove them crazy with my ‘specific’ requests, but these ladies know their stuff! I gave them the concept and let them run with it. I trust their judgements because they are the experts and when you do, magic happens!

I love love love flowers and have made a vow to try and have fresh flowers in my house as often as I can. Jamie at Fleurish Flower Shop outdid herself! The arrangement was perfect and was exactly what I had in mind! All of the greenery worked perfectly with the pops of yellow and white! Something I think Ms. Spade would approve of!

The rental items tied everything together. The plates were the perfect fit with the menus and I was going to use silver flatware, but who am I trying to kid!

I think we wanted to show next years bride not to be afraid of colour and to have fun with their designs. Yes it is a wedding but it ultimately is your day and when life gives you lemons, make lemonade!

This is our one last hoorah for summer!

Modern Springbank Wedding

You know what I love? A bride and groom who aren’t afraid to embrace their inner nerd. Couples like this Springbank bride and groom who sprinkled their modern love affair with Star Trek, Star Wars and Battle Star Galactica references all along the way. Diane + Mike Photography captured all the fun behind the camera and you can find even more right over here.

From Diane + Mike Photography… Amanda + Paul were married at Amanda’s parents’ home in Springbank, a community just outside of Calgary, AB. The day was full of Star Trek/Wars/Battle Star Galactica references — even the vows :) They designed and screen printed all the paper items themselves — the save the dates, invites, menus, table seating chart, etc…

Modern Wedding at The Art Gallery Of Calgary

This darling bride describes her wedding in one word: FUN.  And honestly?  I could not agree more. Because anytime you combine two crazy cool people like this adorable duo with awesome friends and family in a drop-dead gorgeous art gallery setting, that’s exactly what’s going to happen… fun and then some.  See it all captured by Tara Whittaker right here.

From the Bride… FUN was the word of the day for our wedding. The whole idea behind our wedding was to throw a really good party where we just happened to also be getting married. The plan was to keep the boring “wedding” parts short, and get right down to the party. As it turns out though, everything about the day, from getting ready with our wedding party, to the photos, to the dance party afterwards – even the boring ceremony part – all turned out to be a ton of fun. There was just such a wonderful celebratory vibe all around us. We both agree, our favorite part about the day was having all our favorite people with us in the same place, at the same time to celebrate. When else do you ever get to do that? We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day!

My favorite DIY was the jam jar favours. I spent an entire August long weekend making and canning strawberry rhubarb & ginger jam and completely destroying the kitchen in the process. I’m pretty sure our kitchen is still sticky from it! I had a bunch of décor DIYs planned just in case we needed to spruce up the gallery space. It’s a bit of a risk with an art gallery as a venue, because you may not know exactly what’s going to be on exhibit at the time when you’re booking. As soon as I saw the space with the incredible paintings by M. Eileen Murray on display though, all those went out the window, the space was so stunning on its own!

There isn’t anything we would have done differently. The day was perfect. We had an amazing team of people working with us (Kari, Tara & Darren, Blair, AGC staff, Infuse, Sue, Lucy), and it would not have been the incredible experience that it was without them!

1920s New Year’s Eve Inspiration

We’re bidding adieu to 2013 with a little bit of glitter, some fabulous vintage stylings and some crazy awesome pops of bright pink.  In other words, we’re rockin’ this last day like it truly deserves… with a pretty, pretty party from a dream team of Calgary vendors (think Monica Watson – Reflections Weddings And EventsFairytale DesignsFlowers by Janie, and Great Events) and some bubbly-filled festivities.  See it all captured by Photographik in the full gallery.  Happy 2014, lovelies!

Loft

From Photographik… Glitz, glitter and glamour were the inspiration for this New Year’s Eve inspired shoot at an urban loft studio in Calgary, AB. Many Albertan couples choose to tie the knot in the summer months when the weather is warmest, but there’s something romantic about a winter holiday themed wedding – because in Canada there is certainly no shortage of winter. We took our inspiration from a colour palette many Calgary brides are requesting for their 2014 weddings – golds, ivories, peaches and pinks – and went from there. We envisioned a final product that was both romantic and whimsical with a little added sparkle for the upcoming holiday season. Kayla and Ryan, who are freatured in this photoshoot are a real Calgary couple who were married this past September, so working with them was both easy and natural. We drew our inspiration from a 1920’s theme, which we pulled into the little details – the art deco styling of the cake, the vintage serving tray and gold clock featured on the dessert table and the simple elegance and styling of the bride. This era lends itself well to a New Year’s Eve inspired photoshoot – that time was so glamorous and carefree. I think 2014 will see many brides pulling inspiration from the 1920’s era; the styles were so classic and timeless.
