Laid Back Romance in St. John

My fiancé and I had the toughest time deciding between a local or destination wedding. Ultimately, we chose a local wedding to involve more family and friends, but destination weddings will forever tug at my heart strings. Enter this laid back beach fete planned to perfection by Mary Bartolucci. A tropical breeze, soft sand grazing your feet and palms fanning your every move? dreamy right? Hope on over to the gallery from Two One Photography for more.

From Mary BartolucciAfter one year of weekly phone calls and hundreds of emails exchanged, the wedding planning process for Janell and Mick??s tropical celebration was completed. It??s always fun to finally meet face to face couples with whom we have been collaborating with for months prior to their wedding date. Our 6??6? groom with his size 0 bride traveled from the great state of Texas along with 65 of their near and dearest. We knew the Texan??s were going to be a fun group from our many conversations with Janelle and Mick during the planning process.

The wedding festivities kicked off with a welcome party at The Tap Room, a local micro brewery featuring mango summer ale and other unique brews. Having quite a few beer connoisseurs in the group, we knew this would be the perfect location to get the party started! After an early morning rehearsal, next day was spent enjoying the many US Virgin Islands National Park beaches and a little of recovery mode too! The rehearsal dinner was held one of St John??s newest restaurants Virgin Fire which specializes in contemporary Caribbean cuisine.

The wedding day began with the team from Sugar and Spice Lux Artistry setting up headquarters in the bride??s villa at the Westin St John. Our lovely bride was gifted a custom made wedding gown by her mom and brother. Janelle flew to mainland China to collaborate with the designer Jueshe for her spectacular gown.

Janelle and Mick chose to not see each other prior to the wedding ceremony. Casey and Ryan from Two One Photography worked separately to do some pre wedding bridal photos. The ceremony was held at sunset on Trunk Bay, St John. Mick??s grandfather Phil, performed their marriage ceremony. The bride walked to Canon in D played on steel pan with a tropical flair. She was escorted by her brother as her Mom and Dad watched sweetly from the front row.

The reception was held at The Waterfront Bistro, a beach side setting. The restaurant boasts the best sunset view on the island, perfect for greeting the guests arriving from the ceremony location. Guests sipped pain killers and a variety of gourmet appetizers while Janelle and Mick enjoyed their first photo shoot as a married couple.

Janelle’s vision for the reception was romance and lots and lots of candles. Island Style Weddings design team along with Roses Too florist created a table scape using teal mercury vases and candle holders with silver accents. Small tea light holders were filled with single white blooms of spray roses and placed on mirrored table runners. Interspersed between the floral design were silver mercury votive and crystal tall tea lights.

DJ Adonis Morton, introduced the couple amid cheers from the crowd. After a welcome toast from the bride and groom thanking their guests for joining them on their marriage adventure, everyone was seated to a three course meal. With tropical breezes, as the sun set over St Thomas and the sounds of calypso, reggae and some old school rock the guests were not seated for long!

Mick’s brother surprised the couple with a magnum of Veuve Clicquot making a grand gesture shared amongst the guests. The evening continued with lots of rum, dances, kisses, glow sticks and a conga line finale out the door and on to their new life as husband and wife. Janelle and Mick may you have many years of happiness together!

Dreamy St Thomas Destination Day After Session

Day after sessions are pure genius to me. All the wedding day stress is gone, it’s another amazing opportunity to snap a few timeless shots, and I don’t think anyone would complain about an excuse to slip on their wedding gown again.  This beauty of a session from Kristin La Voie Photography proves that day after sessions are just the prettiest, and there is even more to see here.

From Kristin La Voie PhotographyI have a goodie for you! This is a gorgeous Day After session of Liana & Leo at the popular Magen’s Bay in Charlotte Amalie, St Thomas. This beach is one of the top 10 beaches in the world, for obvious reasons I could tell as soon as I stepped foot on the white sand. The blue and turquoise crystal water was nestled in the bay of perfection with the most spectacular views. Liana & Leo wed the day before aboard the Oasis of the Seas, and opted for a private day after session at this popular locale (you may recognize it from the recent appearance of Edward and Bella’s honeymoon in Twilight). The beach was extraordinary and I could not load the film fast enough!

St. Thomas Destination Wedding

If ever there was a place primed for a perfect destination wedding…I’m pretty sure St. Thomas would be it. Because you need next to nothing to make your celebration spectacular. And while this bride layered on the turquoise and coral touches – inspired from the beaches themselves – the backdrop alone was enough for us to fall in love. Even more photos from Crown Images right here!

From the bride…We were going for a vintagey-beachy, relaxed elegance kind of vibe. We went with a lot of turquoise blue (bridesmaid dresses, mason jars for the ceremony aisle & the centerpieces, mother of the bride dress & turquoise gingham cocktail umbrellas I got from France) and coral (my shoes, troy’s socks & tie, the flowers, the ringbearers ties, the flower girls flower crowns, cocktail straws, matchbooks, the lace & burlap table runners and really pale peachy flowers on my dress). Basically, I went crazy on etsy. I actually didn’t realize how vintage-y my dress and hair looked until I saw your pictures. I loved how it all came together! It was a last minute to decision to have the flower girls & ringbearers barefoot for the wedding. I loved the kids playing in the water during & right after the wedding.

Music is also really important to me so that’s why we had the guitar player for the wedding (I walked down the aisle to “Lovely Day” by Bill Withers). We also had a steal drum player for the cocktail hour & dj for the reception. Our wedding song was “I Got You” by Jack Johnson.

Since my guests were coming a long way & using up vacation time to come to my wedding, I wanted them to have as great a time as possible. So that’s why we also had a welcome party the night before and a beach party the day after the wedding. Lots of great food & great drinks by Passion Fruit caterers for all 3 events.
