Modern, Elegant Australian Beach Wedding

This Bride’s smile won my heart. It says a thousand words. That wide grin shows just how thrilled she is to marry the man of her dreams. From the Bride….Amy is originally from a small coastal town in South Africa and Jamie is from an even smaller town in country Queensland, Australia. The stunning coastal retreat of Noosa is our favourite getaway and, one rainy afternoon, Jamie suggested we go for a walk. He proposed on a bended knee in a hidden grove just behind the beach. We decided to return to Noosa, with friends and family travelling from afar including South Africa, Vegas, Mongolia & London, to celebrate our wedding.

We wanted a modern, elegant wedding but were conscious of taking advantage of the relaxed, beach setting of the penthouse apartment overlooking Noosa where we had the ceremony and modern restaurant on the water’s edge which was the reception venue. We decided to use neutral whites and creams with a splash of turquoise (colour). Turquoise burst through in handmade Zulu love letter bookmarks which were favours for the girls. Jamie and my mother made a hot chilli relish, presented in small silver and glass jars which were favours for the boys.

My mother and I designed our letterpress stationary with help from one of my bridesmaids. The invitation set was grey and turquoise and included reply postcards and a hand drawn map of the wedding locations. Our menus included food selections plus a personalised note to each of our 110 guests. For tables names, we wrapped paper around candles with each one printed with a number and related story that’s special to us.

My ivory gown was custom made for me in full Italian lace. I wore Kate Spade shoes, my mother in law’s Cathedral length veil and my grandmother’s diamond ring. A turquoise Michael Kors clutch was my ‘something blue’.

The bridesmaid’s dresses were nude with muted silver sequins. They finished the look with pearl earrings, a gift from me, and nude shoes and clutches. Jamie’s nieces were our flowergirls and wore ivory embroidered dresses.

Jamie wore a Canali navy suit with Hugo boss white shirt, gray tie and black shoes. The groomsmen also wore dark navy suites with crisp white shirts.

Splashes of rain meant we couldn’t use our intended ceremony venue, the spot just off Noosa beach where Jamie had proposed. Instead, we got married on a large balcony of a penthouse apartment overlooking the beach. My father walked me down the aisle to ‘You Feel Like Home to Me’ and a dear friend wrote a personalised reading. Guests enjoyed champagne and Antipodes water before walking down to the beachside restaurant.

Bouquets were filled with white double tulips and lisianthus, hydrangea with green tips and gardenia blooms. The flowergirls carried bright blue hydrangeas. Buttonholes were double tulips and the reception tables were filled with white lisianthus, hydrangeas and dis-buds.

The food at our reception was definitely a highlight for our guests. Cocktails, drinks and canapés were served, after which guests had a choice of 3 entrees and 3 mains. The selections included Mooloolaba prawns, crab crusted Baramundi and sticky pork belly.

A dessert table was set up so that our guests could maximise their time on the dance floor. Jamie’s grandmother made her famous traditional fruit cake as our wedding cake, which was complimented by dessert selections including mini blueberry frangipani tarts, cupcakes and a selection of cheeses.

A friend, dressed in a full Scottish kilt, played the bagpipes while we cut the cake. After that, we did an upbeat first dance to Michael Franti’s Say Hey. Everybody hit the dance floor, which stayed packed all night. At the end of the night all of our guests headed outside to the boardwalk between the beach and the venue, and formed a farewell line. We ran down the boardwalk saying goodbye to our guests with sparklers glittering and throwing light onto the sea. This beautiful image is one I’ll always remember.

Gold Coast Hinterland Wedding at Sarabah Estate Vineyard

I think about 99.9% of the weddings I see give me the travel bug… this Queensland countryside affair is no exception. Fortunately for us, this couple took full advantage of the stunning backdrop and were also kind enough to share their beautiful day with all of us. It’s the kind of effortless elegance we crave and we’re lucky The Arched Window Photography was there to capture every moment.

From The Bride…Mick and I met through a mutual friend at two separate sporting events – the cricket and the rugby. After having a good chat at the cricket (during a rain delay), neither of us didn’t think much more of it. By chance we saw each other at a Reds v Western force game, had another couple of drinks and a chat, after which he asked me out.

About three weeks in I knew he was the one. Having both been married before, and neither of us overly backward in coming forward, we were pretty upfront about who we were and what we were after in a partner. By chance, our needs/wants/goals etc were very similar and in most instances the same.

Proposal was very low key. We were at the farm for the weekend and upon waking up one morning, he asked me to marry him. No fireworks, not string quartet etc, but that wouldn’t have been very Mick. We had talked about it previously, but neither had a real need to get married initially. We were with each other because that’s where we wanted to be – we didn’t need to be married, but after a while we both wanted to.

What I love most about Mick is that he is who he is. There is no pretence with him, and as such he has a confidence without being arrogant. He is as honest and loyal as the day is long, and is the most genuine person I know. Mick loves the confidence that I give him.

Being able to share that experience with our family and close friends was the best part of our day. We didn’t have a huge wedding but those that were there were the ones that will be in our lives in the future.

My advice to other brides is it will all be fine… We had our reception in an open air marquee. Despite rain in the lead up week and ominous clouds on the day ( which looked great in the photos ) there was not a drop of rain on the day. The roof stayed off the marquee and the night was lovely. I did have moments of terror however.

That you can always aim for the wedding, that isn’t a wedding, but you will most likely end up with a wedding….

I tried to be as simple and what I thought was as elegant as possible. We did a country wedding, but we didn’t want too casual. Sarabah Estate was a big help in that regard, and we tried to keep it less formal by using local flower pods etc to decorate the tables alongside candles and flowers. Everything was shares of white, highlighted with waxy green leaves and Crow’s Ash pods.

Mick is from Canungra and it was important for him to have a wedding at home. We didn’t even consider having it anywhere else – it just felt right. It also meant that we could use our property for the photos which made it special for us.

A short honeymoon straight after the wedding – we kept it simple and went to Noosa. A very low key week – lots of good food, wine, trips to the beach and surrounds, and sleep-ins. We were shattered after the wedding and it was great to just relax after it all…. We may head overseas next year.

Enchanted Garden Wedding

From White+white Weddings And Events… Lizzy and Greg’s lavish garden wedding was truly enchanting. The tree and moss lined entrance included soft draping with floral ribbon detailing, golden accents and a gorgeous antique welcome mirror. Hanging blooms and tea lights with potted trees and wrought iron furniture decorated the cocktail area. Archways were covered in ivy and chandeliers of flowers hung from the inner city warehouse ceiling.

Event designers and wedding planners, white+white, had a vision of absolute opulence in mind for the day and their styling direction helped bring Lizzy + Greg’s wedding to life. By orchestrating and teaming up with world class vendors including Amini Concepts, The Butterfly Lounge and Lightspace, they were able to deliver a soiree of extraordinary proportions.

Amini Concepts delivered to Lizzy and Greg’s wedding a sophisticated magic to match the couples own captivating charm. The indoor garden fashioned at Lightspace was luxe glamour and incorporated soft gold, natural timbers, silver mercury and fresh colourful flowers in abundance thanks to The Butterfly Lounge. The look transformed Lightspace from industrial style to a sensory overload of beautiful fresh greenery, flowers and drapery.

To create the idyllic garden party space, The Butterfly lounge lined the green turf entry with potted flowering plants. Each flower was chosen so that it fitted the garden party brief perfectly – colours and shapes and textures were carefully selected to reflect the randomness of a flowering garden. The arrangements were created with a ‘just freshly picked’ look in mind. The Butterfly Lounge’s favourite element was the living asparagus fern, which gave the scenery its wildness feel. Lisianthus, Cluster Roses, Dahlias, Hydrangea, Roses, Tulips, Peppercorn and Umbrella Ferns were used with some tiny Succulents in the bouquets. The chandelier was created to look as if it had hung there so long that the garden had grown in and over it.
