How To Frost the Perfect Cake

I've always admired those perfectly smooth cakes you see through the windows of your local bakery. They're just so beautiful in their simplicity. And though I've admittedly tried my hand at them a time or two, I've never quite mastered the look. But with Mayflour Cake + Confections step by step guide, I'm now more confident than ever that we call all frost the perfect cake. Captured by...

DIY Wishbone Placecard Holders

I sound like a total broken record, but our in house DIY'er is a TOTAL rockstar. She never fails to surpass even my highest expectations. And these DIY wishbone placecard holders are seriously no exception. As far as I'm concerned they make our whole party, and I'd be happy to have these babies laying around my home year round.

Everyone knows by now that calories don't count on Halloween, so why not use this excuse to let your guests stock up on party goods before their departure? Our fabulously festive "Treat yo'self" favor bags are just the ticket. Because, as they say, it's all in the (sugary, sweet, delicious!) details.

DIY Gold Dot Vase

The frugalista within always gets really excited when we come up with a fabulous party project that can totally be repurposed once your party guests have retired for the evening. This Kate Spade inspired vase is all that and more. Though it undeniably added that je ne sais quoi to our shin-dig, I'd just as easily place it on my dining room table any ol' day of...

DIY Fringe Backdrop

Today is SMP's Annual Halloween Party! You might remember last year's French Masquerade theme that we all fell in love with. Well, this year we're mixing it up, going in more of a Kate Spade fab direction and we couldn't have loved the outcome any more. But, before we get to the party we wanted to share the totally essential ...

DIY Calligraphy Signs

This next Audrey inspired project is amaze. Like holy cow, can I really do that!? amaze. Well, I'm here to tell you that you can. Oh you definitely can. And while you might want to throw your exacto cutter out the window when you're done, with a little patience you too can create such total adorableness. We're even providing the...

DIY Confetti Backdrop

One of my favorite projects from our Style Me Pretty Weddings book are the paper heart chair garlands. Because, while a bit time consuming, they are so easy and pretty and really make a space feel magical. So when our DIY extraordinaire, Jess, mentioned doing some sort of backdrop for...

DIY Fringe Wands

This is quite possibly the simplest, most bang for your buck project we've ever done here on SMP. And the girls at Audrey's party LOVED them. A bamboo skewer, some hula skirts and a bit of green painters tape and voila. A magic wand that actually makes little girls feel like they are fairy princesses. A few of the girls actually begged me to take them home.

Audrey’s Miniature Birthday Invitations

You are officially invited to Audrey (my beautiful daughter's) 5th birthday. If you've ever met Audrey you know that she's quite particular and quite fabulous. So coming up with a birthday theme + invitation that could top other years and impress this little SMP-er, well, it was no easy feat. And today, we're sharing the whole party soup to DIY nuts on the blog. Can you guess what kind...

DIY Lined Envelopes

Okay so now that we're equipped with our well-stocked stationery bar, it's time to personalize those notes just a touch. Because receiving a letter in the mail is great, but receiving a letter with a fancy DIY'ed lined envelope is just that much better. And, honestly, it's so simple to do  - and the...

DIY Papel Picado Coasters

Okay, okay, so I know we went totally over the top with the whole papel picado thing, but when you give brightly coloured tissue paper and a pair of scissors to a bunch of creative ladies, their inner craft goddesses simply emerge. And can you really blame us? The results are just so stinking cute that we simply couldn't help ourselves. These coasters were great for our party, but they also add that little...

DIY Paper Flowers

So Abby's all about the papel picado bunting (which was glorious in it's own right!), but for me? It's the paper flowers. As far as I'm concerned, they became the star of the show (apart from...

DIY Papel Picado Bunting

For me, the prettiest part of our Mexican Fiesta was the Papel Picado bunting. It floated in the breeze and totally set the tone for our easy, effortless, totally inviting dinner. And believe it or not, it's not a hard project to tackle. Remember those paper snowflakes you used to make as a kid? It basically the same thing. But prettier! Tissue paper Masking tape Scotch tape...

Neon DIY Striped Cake

I know that it's sort of killing you guys that we have yet to unveil the full Neon party but I just had to pay homage to all of the cuteness in the DIY projects that served as our foundation. Particularly, this ridiculously cute cake that even a novice baker could tackle with confidence. It's pink, it's sparkly and it has a little nod to the 80's which I sort of love. Boxed White Cake (or make your own with...

Neon DIY Marshmallows

So we can't really take credit for this next little number. We originally spotted it over on Idle Wife and fell so in love with it that we sort of just stole it and plopped it right into our neon celebration, putting our own little striped spin on some of them. And if you're anything like us, you're going to do the exact same thing... Marshmallows (extra large) Paint Brush 4-5 Small...

Neon DIY Lucite Tray

Next up in the building blocks for our aaaaadorable Neon Party Theme is this oh-so-simple lucite tray. I am a HUGE fan of the lucite tray. A few trays are a great investment for your party pantry because you can always gussy them up with a bit of paint or a paper insert and transform the end result. For this tray, we used a simple tape pattern to create a fun, modern Neon design. newspaper painter's tape lucite tray (found here) spray paint (we used rustoleum fluorescent in yellow)...

Neon, DIY Martini Glasses

Okay, the first DIY (actually all of the DIY's) for today's celebration is about as easy as boiling water. We love a good DIY but we aren't huge fans of overly complicated, glue gun burn inducing projects. So today, we're keeping these short and sweet. Bottom line? With a little tape and a little spray paint, we turned these simple Martini glasses into something cocktail dreams are made of... 12" strip...

Next up is this adorable DIY pompom garland from Cloud Parade. Though it'd make for the perfect accent to any event you have on the agenda (baby shower? birthday party?), a large part of me is tempted to simply hang one above my bed. How could you not wake up smiling with that greeting you overhead?! With just a handful of materials and a few simple steps you can quickly and easily throw together your very own pompom garland for all your...
