If you're still reaching for Rice Krispies the next time you whip up marshmallow treats, you could be missing out on some serious fun. Homemade marshmallow cereal bars are a longtime favorite of Waiting On Martha. "But why have I been using only one type of cereal all these years?" she asks; hence, these yummy bars were born.  Waiting On Martha experimented with Trix, Cocoa Puffs, and a mix of...

Weekend Room Edit

I had an elementary school art teacher who wouldn't let us use an eraser. She wanted to teach us how to work with what we had, and make it a bit better. A lesson in embracing our creative mistakes, I suppose. Now, I'm not sure why that little lesson stuck with me, but it totally has, and I really see it come to life when it comes my approach to home design. The Weekend Room Edit is the perfect example. With the help of...

Dining Room Re-Do for Less than $50

When we purchased our home last summer, I knew it would be a lot of work. It was not the Colonial or Cape Cod I had hoped for, but a 70’s Tudor. We fell in love with the neighborhood & were relocating from out of town, so we quickly purchased it. Rather than resenting the home or completing gutting it, I have been working to update it little by little, minimizing features that I don’t care for & maximizing those that I do. xo Julie of...

The Paloma

On a recent trip to Mexico the Mr. and I fell in love with a little cocktail called The Paloma.  The Paloma combines tequila with the tart and fresh flavors of grapefruit and lime juice to create the most refreshing of libations.  Typically The Paloma is topped with a lime or grapefruit wedge, but I really love adding a slice or two of jalepenos for some heat or a fresh sprig of mint to cool it down. Truly, MKR  Either way you shake it, or top...

Behind the Blog with Julie Blanner

When I envisioned SMP Living, I saw a Modern Day Mrs. With or without a ring, the kind of girl that takes the time to learn the basics of planning a home and yet doesn't take herself too seriously. Who is delightfully flawed and yet the envy of all of her friends because she always has a cocktail and a great playlist a-waiting. Well, I'm pretty sure Julie Blanner has that role down to a science and today, she's opening the doors to all of...

Pear Ravioli

After the bustle of the holidays, I look forward to cozy made-from-scratch meals at home that are slightly lighter & fresh. Making homemade pasta is just one of the many things I love to do during the cold winter months. It requires nothing but staple ingredients, a rolling pin & a few minutes of time. The little effort invested yields incredible texture, flavor & that made-from-scratch satisfaction. I will admit, I have a pasta roller attachment to expedite the process, but...
